The week started off well. I popped out of bed on Monday and put in a peppy 3.4 miles and felt pretty good.
For some reason, I have been having a hard time keeping up with my weights this week. Our oldest pug has taken to waking up at about 4:45 to go to the bathroom and eat breakfast (he’s such a senior citizen), so that means we are awake and going whether or not it’s our turn to “sleep in” and we have been going up to bed super early, which keeps the cycle repeating. He’s lucky he’s cute and my first baby, because damn, morning comes early around here.
Additionally, I have been doing a lot of volunteering at little man’s school (which I love) and so I have had to readjust my daily schedules in order to fit it all in. It’s taken a little getting used to.
Wednesday morning was another early one, both because of a pug who decided he had starved long enough (so sad, so neglected) and because of a certain five year old, who came flying in for a snuggle because of a thunderstorm. Even though I had planned to get up at 5 for a run, Mr PugRunner took our pug downstairs and I fought for some space (little man likes to spread out) and settled back to snooze for a few minutes.
However, when my alarm went off, the rain was still pouring down, and the thunder was still rolling. I really, really, really had every intention of getting out of bed, sucking it up and running in the rain. I hate the very idea of it, but I was determined to woman up. I do NOT mess around with thunderstorms. It’s flat around here and the threat of lightning was real and dangerous. So, I curled up, pulled the blankets over my head, and got another hour of sleep.
I’m a little mad at myself for missing a training session, but it was worth it to cuddle with my little guy and get some extra Zs.
The way my week is shaping up, I will have to do my long run on Friday, and I probably won’t get a shot at a run on Saturday. But I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m a little nervous about a long run after just one training session in one week, but it is what it is.
Hopefully, I’ll get my mojo back soon! I have one more week before I need to start taking it easy so I need to make them count!
Do you ever just shut off the alarm, roll over and go back to sleep?
Do you have pets who believe you are starving them based on their daily diet of two meals and countless treats?

My cat wakes me up at 5:00 with her meowing and by trying to nip at my toes! I begrudgingly give in after about 15 minutes of trying to shoo her away.
I usually don’t hit the alarm and roll over but I am thinking about it this week after a long week in K!

LOL! I love that! How funny that your cat tries to nip at your toes!
I can imagine. I volunteered in little man’s classroom today and I was so ready for a nap afterwards!

I *always* turn off my alarm and go back to sleep. Except on race mornings – then I’m usually awake way ahead of time. Since becoming a stay at home mom, I am NOT a morning person. I treasure my sleep, because it’s so often interrupted!
I have a 12 year old dog. Does that answer your last question? LOL Poor, mistreated puppy. =)

I like the way you think!
Our oldest is 13. He’s just the sweetest boy and we love him so much. Today he slept in until 5:20, so it was quite the treat!

There are some mornings where I do just shut off the alarm and go back to sleep, but lately I’ve been setting the alarm slightly later and then getting up an running because It’s not QUITE as hot here in the mornings. However, I overslept a half hour this morning. I still ran this morning…priorities. I made it to class with two minutes to spare!

It’s still pretty brutal here. Sigh. One day, it will be fall.
Way to go on making it to class!

Oh if it’s raining, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will roll right back over and go to sleep. I am a sucker for storms. We may be in for some tomorrow, but I ran today and will run on Saturday so let the rain come down!
Hopefully it will cool things off for my half on Sunday.
And yes, my furbaby has us trained pretty well. She is so silly about treats and will hover around any time someone is in the kitchen. We may have a problem with certain family members taking pity on her and giving her people food.

LOL! Lucky that you’re done.
Pets are ridiculous. And we let them get away with it all!

Before the school year started, I hit snooze constantly. Now that I get two whole hours, three times a week to run (every now and then anyway), I don’t have to get up before the kids to run M/W/F, which is glorious. It’s been a long LONG LONG time waiting for a tiny break a few days a week. It probably won’t work once my weekday mileage gets above 6 miles on my “sorta long run” day, though. I’ll be back to hitting the snooze and hating myself for missing a run.

At least it’s cool enough for you to run after you get the kids off to school. It is still pretty brutal here. I’m looking forward to the time change and things cooling down so it’s not so urgent to be out the door by 6.

I’m glad I’m not the only one having a crazy off week… I can’t even get out of bed when my “rest day” alarm goes off lately. It will get back to normal soon!

Sure, I turn off my alarm and roll over and go back to sleep – for the 9 minute snooze, but I only let myself do it ONCE. And then I MUST get up!!! Ha Ha. I don’t know what the meaning of sleeping in means.
Don’t worry about your OFF week! We all have them, and I bet come Sunday night at 11:59pm, things will change 😉

That 9 minute snooze is the best thing ever. Sometimes I let myself go to 3 times, but I do tend to set my alarm earlier to accommodate that. My husband hates it.
I’m already ready for Sunday at 11:59! Bring it on!
Meg @ Meg-in-Training says
Last week my husband was still home when my alarm went off (its harvest season so I don’t see much of him) and i turned it off and rolled right back over. Some things are just more important.
I rely on my snooze button way too much. Before I started waking early to workout i would snooze 3x a morning too before rolling out of bed.
Also – my golden retriever follows me around the house or comes running anytime i have food or start cooking. She gets plenty to eat and could stand to loose a few lbs but acts like she hasn’t eaten in days!!!!

Morning sleep is so much better than night sleep. It just seems to be more meaningful. Funny how our pets behave. They’re so ridiculous.

I hope you get your mojo back quickly! I don’t mess with thunder storms either, and I’m sure I would have picked snuggling with one of my little guys over running in the pouring rain, too! 🙂

I’m sure you’ll get your mojo back soon! 🙂 I think we all go through rough weeks. It’s when you have several off weeks in a row that it’s time to make a change.

Oh, no. Several weeks off would be no bueno. Barring some truly extenuating circumstances, I don’t think I could let that happen.

Wake up to rain is probably the number one reason I bail on a training session. Sometimes about the doom and gloom outside makes my body go into immediate rest mode. Don’t feel bad! I’m sure you’ll pop right out of bed next time it’s sunny!

My cats want breakfast at 4 AM. That is what time I get up during the week to run, but they don’t recognize weekends so I feed them and head back to bed. You will get back in the swing of things.

When my middle pug was a puppy, she was bright eyed and bushy tailed at 4AM. I was dating Mr PugRunner then, and he, bless his heart, got up with her every.single.day to feed her and let her out. Ah, I don’t miss those days.
Nellie says
I wish I could have done that today!!! But I have definitely done it when the weather is terrible. Sometimes Mother Nature wins!! I bet that cuddle time was awesome:)
