This past week is one I would very much prefer to leave in the past. It started out great, but came to a screeching halt a couple of days ago. I’m still very unsettled, and just took a few days off to be with my family. Mental health days are always ok, but I hope I never have to take anymore quite like this.
Sunday – rest
Well, not entirely rest. I did swim laps with little man. He is getting ready for his first triathlon, and so we are practicing the three disciplines and transitions.
My parents were gracious enough to let us use their lap pool and then we celebrated his hard work with burgers and hot dogs back at their house.
That night, we had an absolutely awful storm. Once the awful rain and winds died down, I happened to glance out the window. The sky was on fire. It was one of the most glorious sunsets I’ve ever seen.
The photos are good, but they don’t do it justice.
Monday – body circuit class, 60 minutes
Two of my friends have started their own run coaching business, and as part of their program, they offer body circuit classes. Monday was the first day I could attend, and it was a great class, full of HIIT moves. And abs. But we won’t talk about the abs.
I was a little sore after the hour-long session, but it was great, and I hope I can keep up with it and them.
Afterwards, I caught up on all the errands and cleaning. Because that’s what Mondays are for.
Oh, and we also got in some playtime with Miss Delilah! Molly and Bentley really aren’t into toys so much, but Delilah loves a rousing game of tug!
Tuesday – 3.5 miles
I met up with two of my group run ladies for a gorgeous 3.5 miles at sunrise. The view was exceptional.
After work, little man had a really nice playdate with some new neighbors from our bus stop. It was a good time for everyone.
Wednesday – rest
It has been a while since I got my hair done, and I couldn’t stand it anymore. I really want to go for an ombre style with dark brown flowing into dark purple, but for now, lowlights to take care of all the blond I no longer wanted.
My stylist is leaving town at the end of the month, so the quest for someone new will commence.
Thursday – 3.1 miles, speed work
Thursday started off nicely enough with hill repeats on my group run.
The rest of the day was pretty much a blur. All I can say that I was so grateful to be home and have my family around me.
Friday – rest
My plan was to attend another body circuit class, but I was flat out spent. I didn’t really want to do much at all, except have lunch with little man at school and hold down the couch for the rest of the day.
Which I did, beautifully, I might add.
Little man’s school was hosting a movie night and I was really dragging my feet about going. Mr PugRunner finally talked me into it, and I’m glad he did. Little man had a blast with his friends and it was nice to be out, surrounded by friends.
Saturday – rest
I had planned to run, but then I didn’t. I was still in a bit of a fog, so I just took a pass. Instead, I got little man and Mr PugRunner out the door to karate and took Delilah back to the vet. On the plus side, the yeast infection is cleared out of one ear, and most of the bacteria is out of the other. She also needed her glands expressed to stop her scooting, and she’s doing well with her weight loss.
The rainy aftermath of now-dissipated Tropical Storm Erika means that this week is not going to be ideal for running. Not at all. I don’t love the idea of going into Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach on so little running, but I guess at least my legs will be fresh. I’m sure the reduced humidity will be beneficial and help me get through the miles. I just have to keep my focus on the finish line.
And another bright spot – Best Damn Race released the medal design for the Jacksonville race. Run the half marathon, and earn this beauty:

How was your week in review?
How is the weather treating you lately?

Sounds like a decent week! The weather here is nuts. It’s humid and in the mid 90s. It’s definitely making me ready for Fall!

That’s hot. And humid. Makes you want to do a big load of absolutely nothing.
Sorry you had a rough week 🙁 You still got a fair amount of running in though, so kudos to you! The views were gorgeous, thanks for sharing them! And the new ‘do looks great!

It’s ok. It wasn’t what I wanted, but… these things happen.
Thanks about the hair. I want to do dark to purple ombre, but I think I will do that with a new stylist. I like to go in with a bang 🙂
So cute that your son is training for a tri! Nothing like a great hair appt to lift your spirits-hope you have a better week!

I am really excited for him. We were supposed to do a brick this past weekend but got rained out. Boo.
This week WILL be better.
Those pictures of the sun are amazing.
I’m sorry you had a rough end to your week.
I think I am going to have to enlarge and frame one or both of them.
It’s ok. Things are starting to get better.
You are stylin’ with that cute new do! It was cool and fallish here last week, then crazy storms Saturday, now we’re back to the humid 90’s. It is nuts.

Thanks!
The humidity after storms is the worst! It’s awful how heavy the air can get!

Wow, that sunset was absolutely gorgeous! It always amazes me how sometimes absolutely horrible weather can lead to the creation of such picturesque skylines.

I know! We were just sitting in our living room and the whole room went kind of bright. I looked up and said to Mr PugRunner that the sky was on fire. It was so beautiful.

Lately we’ve been having cooler mornings and evenings with mid to high 70s during the day. Until today. Back in the 90s. Ugh.

I was hoping we would see some cooler temps in the mornings, but no such luck. Ugh. Hopefully, now that it’s September, things will chill out. Literally.

The weather here is kind of August like – hot and muggy. I’m ready for fall. So ready.
Some of my best races have happened when I’m undertrained. Good luck with the race!

It is hot and it is humid. Summer training here is absolutely awful, but Fall PRs are made of Summer Sweat, so just keep repeating that to yourself, over and over. And over. I do a lot of my running before the sun comes up, and while it’s tough getting up so early, it’s worth it to not have the sun beating down on you.
Definitely come out to at least one BDR! We’d love to have you join us!
