tuesdays on the run: spring race plans

February 1, 2017      7 Comments

Happy Tuesday!  I’ll be joining up with My No-Guilt Life, Marcia’s Healthy Slice and MCM Mama Runs for “Tuesdays on The Run”!

Tuesdays on the Run

This Tuesday, we are talking about….

:cracks knuckles:

I am REALLY excited for this Spring. It’s always crazy race season, and I feel like I missed out on so much last year because of my injury. But I’m back and raring to go!

March

Best Damn Race Orlando – 10K – 5K Challenge – March 4

First up? A total of 9.3 miles in downtown Orlando. I’m not entirely sure how two races back-to-back like this came to be, but I do know it’s going to be an incredibly blingy day.

16113916_1941362662758403_2506054683065656896_n

I missed out on BDR Orlando last year due to my hip flexor, so I am really happy to give it another go.

Gate River Run 15K – March 11

Ah, the Gate River Run – largest 15K in the United States, with a field of over 24,000. This is the race for which my region is known, and while it is incredibly difficult with a bridge in the first mile and an even bigger bridge at the last, it’s one I love.

Vilano Bridge 5K – March 18

I’m not 100% on this one. It’s close to home, and, pre-injury I used to run this bridge all the time. So it would only make sense to actually race it. It would also be a nice way to come down from the Gate River Run the week prior. I haven’t registered yet, and it may end up being a game time decision, but it would be fun. And if I’m doing a training run anyway…. Well, you see how these things happen.

Ready. Set. Glow 5K – March 31

This one is for the schools. I’m not really a huge fan of night runs, but it’s for a great local cause, and doing it with the family will be a really nice experience.

April

Publix Savannah Women’s Half – April 8

I have a score to settle with this race. Last year, I had to drop myself from the half marathon to the 5K due to injury, but this year? Nope! I’m taking on the full 13.1, and I’m going to own every single mile!

This race is truly a bucket list event. Historic Savannah is the backdrop for a small and intimate race with a finish line right near the famous fountain in Forsyth Park. In addition to some beautiful bling, participants will receive this gorgeous, expandable bangle.

The Ultimate Tri – April 23

I said I would do it. And this might be the one.

7291682

It’s a triathlon with a pool swim instead of an open water one. The big downfall is that I would have to get back in the water before things start really warming up, but that’s not the end of the world. Everything is lining up to make this “the one”. So I think I need to rise up and face the challenge.

May

The Corporate Run 5K – May 4

This is a work-related 5K, but it’s fun all the same. Since my colleagues are spread out through the region, this is a great way to have everyone together for some chatting and some running.

Memorial Day 5K – May 29

The fifth anniversary of my first 5K? You know I have to do it.

This is just a familiar, comfortable race, and I don’t think my spring would feel right without it.

An ambitious season? Yes, I think so. Spring always seems to be the busiest for me, but I just can’t turn down some of these great events. There are a few races in there just as training runs – if I’m going to be out there anyway, I might as well get a fun shirt and be surrounded by a great community.

How is your spring looking?

Do you have any bucket list races on your calendar?

You’ve got some great spring races lined up! I’m going to do a March 18th 10 miler here before I head to Florida. Then a half in Wisconsin in May, and my marathon in June. No plans after that.

I wish I lived in Florida. You’ve got some cool races.

I am running the Treasure Coast Half in Stuart on March 5.

I have another on April 30 in NYC and one in Mass on May 21.

You have a full schedule coming up! They all sound fun, and I’m jealous of all the bling! Most of the 5K’s around here don’t give medals. I’d be much more motivated to attend if they did.
I really want to get back to running some 5K’s… Maybe no half marathons, at least for awhile. But I want to get back out there.

Well, you know the best way to do it…. just sign up and go!

I feel like more races are offering medals for shorter distances here. There is a huge difference in the number of registrations when there is bling, so it helps the races with their numbers.

I didn’t know there was a Tri that was a pool instead of open water. I may have to look into that next year. I keep flirting with the idea of competing in a triathlon.

I am bummed I am not running Gate this year, but I am sitting out so my husband can run. I will be there cheering for everyone! I will look for you. I hope to be at the bottom of the bridge somewhere.

You will definitely see me. I usually try to stop running and make friends with the spectators at that point 🙂

The girls and I will probably have a few brightly colored signs and noise makers so hopefully we stand out.

Let’s talk about balance. Balance is an area wh Let’s talk about balance.

Balance is an area where I sometimes struggle, physically and emotionally. It can be a challenge to fit in all the things I want and all the things I need. I don’t always love doing the mundane or tedious tasks that ultimately lead to the foundations of the things I am more passionate about.

I am taking a little more time to build on the basics, and find my balance. It’s going to lead to a healthier and happier me.

How do you find your balance? Do you struggle with the basics?

Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run.

I worked through some cardio under the blue skies and in the fresh air and then came home to @runsmartofficial’s base building boot camp.

There was A LOT of focus on balance and feet and ankles, as well as ground work in the form of different planks and push-ups.

The movements were small but effective and my legs are certainly burning! It’s going to get harder as we go, but I’m excited to spend more time on my stability and form, to see if it makes me stronger and more efficient over time.

What was on your workout calendar today?

This morning, I started on a new training plan wit This morning, I started on a new training plan with @runsmartofficial. I have a goal race in May, so I am going to see if I can make some improvements along the way.

I can admit that I am built more for distance than speed, but I am taking a crack and improving my pace over the next ten weeks. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻!

Anyone else starting a new training plan and cycle?

Congratulations to the @staugalligatorfarm for another fantastic event. It was a beautiful morning, with lots of enthusiastic runners and walkers, and we were so happy to be there.

A portion of proceeds went to benefit Orianne Center for Indigo Snake Conservation (OCIC) and AZA Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE), partnering to celebrate Eastern indigo snakes, which makes the race even more important.

Come take a peek at how the morning went and head over to the blog to read more about it! (Link in bio) https://runswithpugs.com/2023/03/15/race-report-raptor-run-3k/
