Happy February! I know a lot of our northern and midwestern friends are suffering miserably though this polar vortex, and I hope everyone is able to stay warm and safe. Preferably with a warm cup of coffee, shared with Coco and Deborah at the Ultimate Coffee Date.
I’m here in Northeastern Florida, with an iced coffee from Dunkin. Our temperatures have finally risen from the 30s to the 50s (which I know is NOTHING compared to what some of you have been enduring, but it’s still fairly frigid for us), but I still prefer iced coffee to the hot kind. I also prefer Dunkin to anything I have ever been able to make at home.
If we were having coffee together, I would tell you that I’m a little frustrated. The dreary skies and rain are getting me down and I am really saddened by the negative attitudes of people that I see. Fortunately, none of the attitudes come directly from my personal circle, but it’s disheartening to see and hear. I firmly believe that if you don’t like how something is, you need to get up and be that change. Criticism, blame and shame never gets you anywhere.
If we were having coffee together, I would tell you that I struggle with hitting goals sometimes. I really made it far on my 30 day Blogilates Challenges (Day 23), but after a few days out of town and a sinus flareup, I just didn’t get back into it. I could put down my laptop right now and bang out a series of workouts, but … here I continue to sit. I know it’s not a measure of my worth or success, but I always wonder why I fall off the wagon with these things. I have accountability partners, and printouts and all the support, but I just can’t get on top of it. Any suggestions?
If we were having coffee together, I would share that I am bummed our master bathroom suffered a leak resulting in needing to be renovated. This also means the impromptu trip I planned to take for the Best Damn Race Savannah Half Marathon had to be tabled. Well, it didn’t HAVE to be, but I didn’t feel right galavanting out of town for a want when we have several thousands of dollars in need at home (and we won’t know the final total until the contractor gets inside the shower walls). I love this race series and was hoping to be in for an inaugural city and to get to visit some blogger friends, but it is what it is. Instead, let’s all admire the new tile. Ooooh. Aaah.
On the plus side, if we were having coffee together, I would tell you how excited I am that I ended January on such a high note with my running. I ended the month with 97 miles, which is just so great! We are shooting for 1019 miles in 2019 so this is a great and solid start. I need to get a few more half marathons on the books to help build my training, but that shouldn’t be a big deal as the year goes on.
We are also joining in with Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness, so check out that link up and share your week in fitness!
What would you share with me over coffee?
What’s something in fitness with which you struggle?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oh, that’s too bad about the leak, but I understand. I just got on Mr. Judy’s case because our generator needed to be fixed, which he really didn’t want to do, but I pointed out that if our pipes froze it would cost a whole lot more so he made the appt.
I think you have to cut yourself some slack on the challenge. 23 days is pretty damn awesome.
runswithpugs says
We do a generator test ever summer before hurricane season starts. No one in Florida wants to be caught with a broken generator in case a storm hits. I imagine it’s just as necessary for you guys.
Farrah says
hahaha, I feel like Florida doesn’t often participate in the winter, but 30s is definitely cold for Florida! I’m sorry to hear about all the negativity around you! I’m glad they’re not the people close to you though!
I need to get on blogilates again–it was such a good workout! Great job on getting 97 miles in last month too! :O
runswithpugs says
I love the Blogilates challenges. They are such great exercises! And so easy! If I can get my slacker butt going LOL!
Deborah Brooks says
wow you did have a fantastic January! Nice job getting all of those miles in. I don’t think you are allowed to complain about the winter weather in Florida š thanks for joining for the coffee date today

I try not to complain, but we really just aren’t equipped. We joke about things like “Florida sweaters” because we have nothing that’s made out of wool – all our sweater are made out of things like acrylic, which are super fashionable but aren’t keeping anyone warm.
Stephanie says
You have had some chilly weather in Florida for sure, my best friend lives in Sarasota. Although here in Iowa I must say the -50 temps were BRUTAL, LOL!
runswithpugs says
Ugh. That number doesn’t even make sense! I hope it warms up!
Kim G says
Great job on your mileage for January! I love your finish line photo that you posted.
It seems like the weather has just been cold everywhere – 30 degrees is pretty frigid for Florida!
runswithpugs says
I love the pic too. Even better that it was free!
We have had colder days here, but it seems like this is just ongoing. Ugh.
Fairytales and fitness says
Great job on your running last month!
The thing I struggle with is wanting to put in the time when I know I could be doing something else. Right now I want to spend all my time with my aging Labrador.
Thanks for linking up with us.
runswithpugs says
Spending time with dogs is pretty much the best thing to do ever, so I support your desire. I’m snuggled up with my oldest pug right now, and I have exactly zero regrets.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Ugh so sorry about the leak! I hope the bathroom project goes well.
You had great mileage for the month! Great start to your 1019 goal.
runswithpugs says
February has started strong, and I’m feeling great about that goal!
As long as our house is ok, the bathroom will be great.
Wendy says
We so need a renovation–actually, our whole house does that a leak would actually be welcome. How sad is that? I’m married to a carpenter but he isn’t interested in doing any work on the house–like the shoemaker’s children, right?
I hope it warms up soon for you! Stay positive. We all need that.

Oh, gosh! I get what you’re saying but no one wants a leak! I totally get why your hubby wouldn’t want to bring his work home so to speak. And I kind of wish my hubby was more handy and enjoyed tinkering around the house. He is great at lots of things but has no business being around tools.
I hope it warms up for you, too! You guys need a break!
Kimberly Hatting says
Bummer about the race, but at least your new tile does look pretty š I hear you on the negativity. I’m slowly weeding through some of the peeps I follow, and doing a Marie thing with the ones who do not spark joy LOL
runswithpugs says
Yeah, it’s going to be a nice bathroom when it’s finished. We picked out everything in the house when we bought it 12 years ago and I’m not sorry about updating some things I wish I had done differently. However, I would really love to be in Savannah in two weeks. Oh, well.
I have a pretty tight circle of people who absolutely spark joy. However, through my work and volunteering, there are many who do not. Unfortunately, I am not permitted to KonMarie those particular people LOL. It will be ok. I just wish more people thought twice before speaking sometimes.

I just got home from visiting my sister in Florida. she lives in Lake County, near Mt. Dora. It was beautiful and warm there. I am ready to go back! Nice mileage last month. Congrats.

Mt. Dora is beautiful! I’m so glad you had a nice time and enjoyed the weather!
I’m feeling strong for February!
De Bolton says
You were moving in January! Sorry about your bathroom but your new tile looks so chic. We have a roof leak in the bathroom. Praying its a small repair if not, where did you get that tile again? Haha.
runswithpugs says
I hope it all comes together the way I see in my head. I am really intimidated by painting the vanity and ripping out the mirrors (the cabinetry is absolutely fine so I refuse to replace it), but it always works out in the end.
Oh, no! I hope yours is a small repair too! Tile stores are not high on my list right now.
Jen says
I would share that my goal this month is to get 110 miles running and biking.
runswithpugs says
That’s a huge goal! Get it!
Coco says
Wow, great mileage for January! I was happy to hit 50 miles.
I’m not a huge fan of iced coffee, but it always tastes better from a coffee place than homemade — I guess I don’t know the secret to making it well at home.
Thanks for joining us for coffee!
runswithpugs says
I didn’t really grow up in a coffee household (my family was tea drinkers, although I find I just don’t love hot beverages of any kind), so I never learned how to make it properly.
50 miles is great, especially considering how packed your schedule has been!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Oh no, that’s such a bummer that you’re going to have to miss your race in Savannah. We are also remodeling our master bath, but not because of a leak, because it’s so outdated (demolition starts in a couple of weeks). It’s exciting yet terrifying at the same time because we’re going to have to move everything out of it and our adjoining closet.
Enjoy your warmer weather! It’s supposed to warmup here over the next few days as well!

Oh, lord. I didn’t even think about the closet. We can only access that through the master. Maybe I’ll just wear pajamas until it’s all over. Yuck.
Glad you’re getting warmer weather! I would love to see some sunshine any day now!
Elaine says
I understand the challenge with of achieving certain goals – it looks like you did an awesome job with your mileage which you celebrated yet you felt you could have done more with the exercise challenges you set for yourself. Perhaps reflect on your best experiences with the challenge and how it has helped you?
runswithpugs says
I think I just need to finish off the challenges and be able to check those boxes. I always appreciate what I have done, but I hate feeling like I didn’t hit my goal.
Madhusree Basu says
23 days in a row? That’s a WOW! Most of the people will quit after 5-7 days. Once we fall off the wagon we don’t get back. For me I always used to think ‘I failed. Now what’s the point?’ But finishing matters. Nobody said the days have to be consecutive š
So, just put 1 more week and you will be done. š
runswithpugs says
You’re right. One more week. I can do this.
The Accidental Marathoner says
I am a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee girl too. I don’t see the attraction of Starbucks AT ALL, but I do also like Caribou and Peets!
Too bad about your ceiling. My neighbor had a major leak that completely broke through her kitchen ceiling. It was quite a mess.
I hear you on not being able to spend on ‘wants’ when there are so many ‘needs’. It’s such a struggle to budget for both!
runswithpugs says
We don’t have Caribou or Peet’s here. I honestly really prefer to support local, but our Dunkin is full of such awesome people who have my coffee ready for me when I walk in the door. Can’t get that kind of service everywhere.
Being an adult can be super annoying sometimes š
Cari says
Team Dunkin forever.
Sorry to hear about your leak – hope your sinuses are on the mend
I’ll take some below normal temps next Sunday morning, please! Nerves about FLL Half
runswithpugs says
Yay Team Dunkin! I just can’t quit them.
Fortunately, the leak isn’t worse. It’s all fixed now and we are just getting the rest of the tile in. Yay.
Cari says
Yay, glad it’s all fixed
