july runfessions: time to have some fun

July 26, 2019      20 Comments

July Runfessions are here! It’s the last Friday of the month, so let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice and give it a go.

runfessions

I runfess….

That I have been a total slacker this week. I’ve experienced writer’s block, lack of inspiration and a nasty case of procrastination. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, I get thrown for a bit of a loop and face feelings . I need to just woman up and get it together. Immediately.

That little man starting middle school is a little bit harder than I thought it would be. He’s spending some time in a program the school offers, learning about regulations and expectations. I know he can do it. I’m pretty sure I can do it. It’s daunting, nonetheless. On the plus side, I’ll be making an encore performance as Board Member in a PTO, after I was pretty sure I had retired, but it’s a great way to stay involved and keep an eye on things without being too suffocating.

I am so ready for the weekend. We are celebrating Meghan’s birthday and I can’t wait. She is truly one of the most amazing people and I am so glad running brought us together. It promises to be an epic weekend, and I hope you’ll follow along with our adventures on social media.

I runfess…

This humidity has got me down. It’s so hard to dig up motivation to leave the house, let alone run. After Atlanta, I found myself unable to keep up with double workouts and some days struggled to maintain even one. Ugh. I’ve felt the difference in my body and my personal outlook, so even if I drag myself out for a walk, I’m making it happen. Oh, and I’m signing the family up for the IOA/Jaguars Stadium Challenge. We’ve done it before as a family and little man said he wanted to give it another go.

I runfess…

That summer is ending SO FAST. We had to sit down with the calendar last night to make sure we could squeeze in all our last-minute plans. As an aside, little man is most excited about “back to school shopping”, which cracks me up. I am not a shopper at all, so I have no idea where he gets it from.

We have plans for two water parks, a beach day and a day at one of the gorgeous Florida springs before the first day of school. I am hopeful the weather cooperates and we can get it all in.

And those are my July runfessions. Not so bad, and it definitely feels good to have all that out in the universe, so I can have some fun this weekend!

We are also joining in with Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness, so check out that link up and share your week in fitness!

Oh wow middle school already?! That’s so exciting but yeah, milestones like those really remind us of the passage of time. It all flies so fast. All the best with your PTO duties. That is a great way to keep a discreet eye on your little man!

Yes! Can you believe it? I can’t!

I really wanted a break, but the whole previous board exited stage left (their kids moved on to middle school), so I got roped right back in. It will be a good thing.

the kids report back to school on 8/12. In a way, it feels like we had no summer. PTO should be fine. Some work I wasn’t anticipating, but I can squeeze it in somewhere.

I remember my days of living in TX. It’s a reverse cabin fever (up here, we go through it when we’re stuck inside all winter long).

I hope you have good weather for your plans!

It’s funny how that works. When my mom first moved here from NJ, I remember her looking at me funny when I said “it’s too hot to go to the pool” on a summer day. Now, I think she gets it.

I’d love to do a 5K at Giants Stadium. Have done Yankees, but never NFL.
Sounds like you’re packing a lot into summer

This summer sure is flying by! Your little guy will do just fine in middle school. They all do! It is hard to watch them grow up so fast and become more independent but that that just means you are doing your job as parents.

I know, but he’s still my babyyyyyy! He’s so freaking independent as it is. I wish he needed me more sometimes, but he’s doing awesome at handling everything.

Our 5AM isn’t bad, yet, but for the sake of the kids walking and riding their bikes to school, I’ll be looking forward to some more morning light.

Your son will do fine in middle school. It’s amazing how well the schools prepare the 6th graders for the changes to come! I think it’s great to be involved–you can see what’s going on and he sees you being a part of the school.

    Enjoy the rest of summer!

Sunday fun day! Just a short walk to start the da Sunday fun day!

Just a short walk to start the day and work out some stiffness. Some days, my ankle just doesn’t want to cooperate 🫤

I have been making graphics and content all day for a client, and now I’m about to do hair and makeup for a little event. Wheee!

This week is going to be BUSY! There’s a lot of changes to the regular routines (nails, a digital learning day, after school and weekend programming) and I have a race on Saturday and bocce ball on Sunday!

Who else is ready to dive in?!

We are supposed to see temps in the 90s this weekend and I am 100% not about it!

I won’t be racing this weekend: instead I’ve got some work, some volunteering, and another event on Sunday. Looking forward to all of it!

This Sunday, I hit up the #womenrunjacksonville ev This Sunday, I hit up the #womenrunjacksonville event at the @theglassfactory, presented by @yelpjacksonville and @market.and.mimosas!

Is it possible to be overwhelmed by so much amazing talent, creativity and awesome woman power?

From the iconic “my phone eats first” tote to the gorgeous party wall lined with craft mimosas, to the silent disco headphones and all the vendors and food/drink samples! Swoon.

I shopped, ate, drank and chatted my way around the venue, and enjoyed every second of it. What a way to celebrate Women’s History Month, and all of the incredible female entrepreneurs, business owners and bosses in Jax and NE Florida!

Five stars. Would do again in a heartbeat!

I am not a huge fan of gym equipment like the treadmill or the elliptical: I find it boring and often times awkward. That being said, I’m working through a training plan from @runsmartofficial and trusting the process.

Did you get your fitness inside or out today? How do you feel about the elliptical?

Let’s talk about balance. Balance is an area wh Let’s talk about balance.

Balance is an area where I sometimes struggle, physically and emotionally. It can be a challenge to fit in all the things I want and all the things I need. I don’t always love doing the mundane or tedious tasks that ultimately lead to the foundations of the things I am more passionate about.

I am taking a little more time to build on the basics, and find my balance. It’s going to lead to a healthier and happier me.

How do you find your balance? Do you struggle with the basics?

Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run.

I worked through some cardio under the blue skies and in the fresh air and then came home to @runsmartofficial’s base building boot camp.

There was A LOT of focus on balance and feet and ankles, as well as ground work in the form of different planks and push-ups.

The movements were small but effective and my legs are certainly burning! It’s going to get harder as we go, but I’m excited to spend more time on my stability and form, to see if it makes me stronger and more efficient over time.

What was on your workout calendar today?

#Running #streakingwiththecoolkids
This morning, I started on a new training plan wit This morning, I started on a new training plan with @runsmartofficial. I have a goal race in May, so I am going to see if I can make some improvements along the way.

I can admit that I am built more for distance than speed, but I am taking a crack and improving my pace over the next ten weeks. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻!

Anyone else starting a new training plan and cycle?
