Yes, you read that correctly. I MAY have the marathon itch. Ugh. Keep reading through this Ultimate Coffee Date with Coco and Deborah for the full details of this awful confession.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That we saw Brittany Runs A Marathon this week and it may have ignited that marathon itch.
Truth be told, I didn’t love the movie. I’m infamous for being “that person” with cinema and I could rant on for days about the things that bugged me regarding the story and the character of Brittany. That’s not the point, though. The point is that when we started moving through the actual course of the NYC Marathon, I got a case of the hardest goosebumps ever. And there was one moment where I literally choked on my ugly cry because that’s how deep into the marathon hype I was.
I swore up and down that I neither wanted nor needed to run another marathon, and now NYC is looking pretty tempting. Ugh.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That I am loving my new glass straw by Ridley Straws.* We are trying to make small, sustainable differences in our home to help reduce waste, and eliminating single-use straws is a change we can make. Little man is totally on board and is also drinking from a personal, reusable straw. Now I have to figure out how to get away from my plastic iced coffee cup.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That I have been doing more videos on Instagram and it’s been so awful. I just feel so incredibly awkward and struggle so hard finding the right light and angle. Well, I finally sucked it up and ordered a vlogging kit with tripod, ring light, mobile mount, and remote. It’s so very legit.
I haven’t tried to video yet, but it was easy to set up, the light works great and I think it will be a huge asset. There are some fairly complicated setups on the market, but I ordered this one from Amazon due to the price and solid ratings (not an affiliate link – just what I selected and purchased).
Over coffee I would tell you…
That it’s been a pretty incredible week in a lot of ways. I had some really great professional successes and moments of progress and that always puts me in a fabulous mood. I don’t share a lot about my freelancing here, because it’s just so varied, but when it goes well, it makes me so happy and fulfilled.
I also completed my 89th workout at 9Round. Just ten to go for that coveted 100 workout t-shirt and I am chomping at the bit. One of the trainers and I spent some time talking about how far I’ve come and the differences she can note in my overall body and fitness and it was such a wonderful feeling. I needed the boost.
And there you have it!
What would you share over coffee?
Have you ever gotten the marathon itch? Or any other itch, for that matter? I don’t know what I’m going to do!
Deborah Brooks says
That’s fun that the movie ignited your passion again. I saw it as well. It was entertaining and fun girls outing

I did like the movie, but I think my favorite marathon movie is Run, Fat Boy, Run. It just spoke to me.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’ve had the marathon itch ever since I ran my first one. I was so lucky to have a near-perfect experience for that first one that I can’t help but want to keep riding that momentum, even when some of the other ones didn’t play out as great.
runswithpugs says
This is a first time itch for me. I was pretty proud to be one and done. I guess you can never say never.
Kim G says
I can totally understand getting the marathon itch, especially after seeing that movie. If you are going to do another marathon, NYCM would be a great choice!
runswithpugs says
I really have never felt the need to do it again. My first time wasn’t awful but it was super anticlimactic. Maybe NYC would be different.

Marathon
runswithpugs says
Hahahahahaha! We can totally do it!
Coco says
Congrats on your work successes! It’s so gratifying when your work gets recognized.
I’ve heard mixed reviews about Britney, so you’re not the only one. I know my body isn’t up to marathon training but you could do it!
I started bringing silverware to use at work so that’s a few pieces of plastic a day I’m not trashing.
runswithpugs says
That’s awesome that you bring your own silverware!
You know, I love the story of the movie. I love how it came to be. I didn’t love Brittany (which is ok – I don’t have to love every character), but I had a lot of second hand embarrassment for her. On the one hand, it’s good, because humans are flawed and I typically don’t like things tying up in a neat bow, but I guess maybe it made me uncomfortable as someone who has lost a lot of weight and (hopefully) didn’t act like a jerk. But, like I said. I’m a pain to watch movies with and I can be super critical instead of just getting lost in the story.
Chris Tiley says
I also feel awkward on camera but want to do more videos for my blog. I will take a look at the vlogging kit you recommended as I’d like to make sure it looks a professional as I can make it.

There are tons of options, but this one was fairly reasonable (under $30) and well rated. Figured I would start there and then see how things go.
Angela says
I have not seen the movie yet, but I would really like to! I have been trying to do more video too, but I am terrible at it! I will check out the vlogging kit!
runswithpugs says
It’s worth checking out, in my opinion. I’m just picky about movies.

I haven’t seen the Brittney movie. My fave marathon movie is Run, Fat Boy, Run! I’ve been thinking of watching it again before Chicago 🙂
Congrats on the work successes!
runswithpugs says
I. Love. Run, Fat Boy, Run. Simon Pegg was awesome and the message was so great!
i think it will be pretty inspiring for you before Chicago!

Way to go on your 9Rounds progress
I can also be “that person” iwth books and movies and despite running NYC in four weeks, I have no desire to see it. To be fair, it takes an amazing movie to break my no movies streak, and this didn’t seem it

Don’t get me wrong: I love movies. I just don’t like a lot of chick flicks or comedies or “light” stuff. I like action, but then I’m all about indie flicks, dramas and deeper, darker stuff. Same for books. It’s frustrating because very few people like what I like, so I never have anyone to chat with about the stuff I watch and read. Meh.
YAY For NYC!
Cari says
Same. I’m the worst book club person despite being a bookworm, because the picks are never my taste. Part of why I enhoy Runners’ Bookshelf on Facebook. Some overlap there when I want to read about running
Sandra D Laflamme says
I totally know what you mean about the marathon itch after seeing that movie. Except for me it is the 50K that is calling. My family thinks I am nuts. Do you think you will pull the trigger and enter the lottery?
That vlogging set up is cool! I am curious to know how you like it!

I think I will. I mean, what’s the worst that can happen? I slog through 26.2 miles of what I consider my hometown city? Right? Totally normal way to spend a day.
50K! That’s totally crazy but awesome, too! You will rock it!
Wendy says
I haven’t seen the movie yet. I get worked up about inaccuracies in medical shows and movies, so I’m reluctant to watch a movie about running, lol!
I am also not using plastic straws anymore. My youngest son is an environmental science major, so he’s got me being very conscious of my plastic use…
runswithpugs says
LOL! I get the same way about inaccuracies. There were certainly a few things that made me raise eyebrows in this.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Your vlogging kit looks very cool. I’m pretty sure I would be very uncomfortable doing videos. I haven’t tried any yet, but never say never!
I haven’t seen Brittany Runs a Marathon. My running friends saw it, but I wasn’t able to join them.
