How is it time for October Runfessions already??? I can’t even handle it. Let’s head on over to Marcia’s Healthy Slice, so we can lay it all out there!
I runfess….
That I am struggling with momming right now. These tweenage and teenage years are something else, and there’s just no being prepared. To deal, I am having to call on all my tricks, patience and creativity to keep it together and man, is it exhausting. I love my kid to the moon and back (or “3000”, if we need to quantify it and you get my nerdy reference), and I hope I’m doing right by him each and every day.
I runfess…
That I’m feeling heavy lately. I have mentioned that we don’t keep a scale in the house, but maybe I’ve just reached a plateau with my fitness and eating. This week, In made the mature decision to stop relying on a morning donut with my coffee and get back into proteins and better nutrition. Ironically, I hard boiled a dozen eggs, and they were quickly devoured by other folks in the house. At least my attempts to be healthier are spreading.
I runfess…
That I am so ready for the humidity to take a hike. We got spoiled with some really pretty running mornings: mid 60s with 50-60% humidity and it was glorious. This morning comes and it was right back in the 70s and the air was so thick you could chew it. Everything just felt more difficult and I can only hope that things are better for my next run.
I runfess…
That it feels like I’m starting over at 9Round. I worked so hard to get to 100, and the next milestone is the 200 Workout Club! Ack! Of course, I’m going to get there, but it’s just a little discouraging to know that I have to double what I just worked so tirelessly to complete. Will I do it? Heck, yes, but I can’t see the fire kicking in until around 150 or so.
I runfess…
That I am so excited for Halloween, but don’t feel exactly ready for it. The house is decorated. I have the setup for my trunk for our neighborhood Trunk Or Treat. Little man (and the rest of the family) have their costumes ready. We have plenty of candy (and non-candy) treats and I even wrote a fun post about Easy Halloween Costume Hacks. It still feels like something is missing.
And those are my October runfessions. Not so bad, and it definitely feels good to have all that out in the universe, so I can have some fun this weekend!
We are also joining in with Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness, so check out that link up and share your week in fitness!
What are your October runfessions?
What’s going on in your week of fitness?

I am not really doing Halloween. I decorated last year and we got zero kids! š Of course, we have candy just in case. Congratulations on reaching that 9Round milestone. Maybe try not to think about the next hundred, or maybe break it up?
runswithpugs says
I didn’t do all my lights this year, but we are festive inside all the same. If you have candy, you’re all set!

I LOVE Halloween! I decorated and bought candy, but most of the neighborhood has grown up. Our 14 yr old is the youngest so I doubt we’ll see much action. Sigh. They grow up too fast. Thanks for linking up!
runswithpugs says
Aw, I hope you get some trick or treaters. That’s all part of the fun. I usually get sent out with the kids, but this year I want to sit home and hand out candy in the driveway š

I’m definitely feeling a little bit heavier these days. That always tends to happen to me after a marathon because I need to re-train my body to not continue to eat like I’m training for a marathon, lol.
runswithpugs says
I don’t have the marathon excuse, but I did figure out that my body is being funky. The jeans that were a bit too tight a w4eek ago fit fine last night. Sigh. Who can keep up?

Like chewing air — such a great analogy. I hope fall comes for you soon. Congrats on the 100 class milestone. I knew you were close but missed that you’d hit it.
I missed our office Happy Time so probably won’t otherwise do Halloween.
NOw I want a hard boiled egg!
runswithpugs says
Thank you!
Yes, the air is very chewable here. It can truly make running and outdoor time super unpleasant.
HB eggs are the best.

I’m “just” a stepmom so never mommed full time, but I can tell you, the years before the tweens and teens were my favorite. That was also back when the kids actually “liked” me. sigh. You can only do your best Jenn and you DO that always, at least that’s my impression; parenting is hard and there’s no manual since every kid is different! So just keep doing what you do, keep loving your boy and things will all work out.
as for 9Round – if it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you! you will definitely smash through the next 100 even if it feels hard right now!
And yes maybe the morning donut could be more a treat than a regular thing. that’s like me and chocolate, though I partially blame my husband for HIS addiction (and bringing it home all the time).
runswithpugs says
There’s no such thing as “just” a stepmom. You have an incredibly important role, too: you’re part of that village. I’m definitely not a baby person, but now is hard. I appreciate your kind words and last night, after all the sass and attitude, he did something kind and unprompted and I had to take a breath and say to myself that those are the things that matter. It’s still hard in the moment, but I guess this, too, will pass.
Back in the gym this morning and it felt good!
Today is national chocolate day. It would be a crime to let that pass unhonored.

I love the idea of getting a T-shirt for reaching 100 classes. It’s like Parkrun, the idea of getting a t-shirt at certain milestones, helps keeps me motivated to try and make it to the next run. I’d not heard of gym classes doing the same thing.
runswithpugs says
T-shirts are epically motivating to me, LOL! I know some of the “boutique” fitness groups do offer some form of swag for milestones. I’ve earned hand wraps, and I will earn new gloves at some point. It’s nice to get that tangible recognition.
Sandra D Laflamme says
I am so with you on the tween thing. These next few years will be challenging for sure. I wish it was humid here. We’ve got chilly and rainy weather here which is a huge bummer!
Chaitali says
Sounds like you’ve done a lot for Halloween already! Hope you have a fun time with it this week and the humidity goes down for you soon. We decorated the outside of the house a bit and bought candy to hand out to the kids but that’s about it. And now it’s supposed to rain on Halloween here so fingers crossed we still get trick or treaters. I don’t want to be left with the candy š
