week 19: school’s out for summer!

May 10, 2021      8 Comments

You read that right, friends! Seventh grade is over and school’s out for summer!

Sunday – 4.88 miles, walking + SSOD Carve It Up: Back & Chest

Sunday, Sunday! I started the day with a nice walks and stretch.

Then I followed it up with the Studio Sweat OnDemand Carve It Up: Arms and Back. It was 23 minutes of heavier weights, and I really loved the moves. I’ll be coming back to that one for sure.

Monday – 4.54 miles, bridge repeats + SSOD Tank Top Toner I

Monday means bridge work, and I headed out. It was a beautiful day and I took full advantage.

I followed this with some arm workouts and then we spent the rest of the day completing exams. Whew.

Tuesday – 5 miles, running + .61 miles, walking

Another run day. Yay! And May The Fourth Be With You! I wore a Star Wars themed tank for the run.

A had his annual at the pediatrician, and after that, we went to Mini Bar for their Star Wars day. We got a few mini donuts and their special galactic drink to share. We also snagged some limited edition merchandise.

Wednesday – 4.09 miles, walking

Happy Cinco de Mayo! I’m all about a themed day, and was looking forward to dinner. But first, my walk.

But first, Aiden officially finished his 7th grade classes! He made straight A’s for the entire year, and we are so very proud of him. He has some state tests to finish up, but other than that, it’s summer! We made it!

For dinner, I put together a Mexcian-themed grazing board with carnitas on the side. We had salsa, guacamole, Mexican corn dip, chips, black olives, cheese, and watermelon and cucumber dipped in chili lime seasoning. And margaritas, obviously. We need to do this more often.

Thursday – 7.49 miles, running + .41 miles, walking

This run was miserable. After such gorgeous weather, it was an unpleasant shock to get slapped with high heat and humidity first thing in the morning. Blah.

I was super happy to receive my Salmon Says Box, from Vital Choice Wild Seafood & Organics.

So of course, I had to clean and reorganize the fridge and pantry to make room. That was a chore.

Friday – 3 miles, running + 3.22 miles, walking

Since I wasn’t planning on running Saturday or Sunday, J and I went out for a few miles. The weather was so much cooler and s fit was a better experience.

Once that was done, A finished his packing, and we met my parents for lunch at our favorite brewery to celebrate Mother’s Day early. It was such a great time.

From there, we got A ready to go. For this overnight, he wanted to try hammock camping, and since he had a new hammock for his birthday… it only made sense.

At the end of the evening, we stopped in at the new Whit’s Frozen Custard. It’s dangerous having frozen custard within walking distance of my house, but I’m up for the challenge.

Saturday – rest

Not going to lie: we were up way too late on Friday and had to get up way too early. We took care of the pugs, loaded up on coffee, and headed to the campsite.

Everything was very much under control, so we just provided additional adult supervision, while the Scouts worked on backpacking and wilderness survival skills. A won a new set for selling the most camp cards in the troop (thank you to everyone who supported him!), and also earned his Star rank! What a day!

We got everyone home, showered, and cleaned up, and then Mr PugRunner and I headed out to dinner with friends. We had the most amazing meal, with great conversation, and laughter.

It was such a wonderful way to celebrate. And check out this dessert: vanilla soft serve with OLIVE OIL, fennel pollen, honey, and salt. Does it sound terrible? Yes! But it was one of the best things I ever ate.

Goal-getting

Since I’m super late with this post again, I’m going to skip the tracker. Basically, I hit all my goals for the week, including strength, speed, reading, and house work. Yay!

I’m about ten days out from wisdom tooth extraction, and we have to start packing for summer camp. Yup. I’m going to be spending a week at the BSA camp, and I have ZERO idea how that’s going to go. I never did sleep away camp as a kid (at least not more than a weekend), so …. we shall see! Any tips?

Happy Mother’s Day-Birthday! And huge congrats to A. Straight As in a year like this past one is amazing!
Gosh, I loved sleep-away camp as a kid, but it sure would be different as an adult — make sure you pack bug spray and sunscreen. I bet you will have fun.

I think it will be fun, but as an introvert, I’m nervous about fitting in and finding my place. It’s like middle school far me all over again.

Wow, I can’t believe school is over already. Congrats to your son on those A’s! That was a full year of virtual/online classes, right? Your upcoming camping trip with the kids sounds like a lot of fun. That’s great that you are so involved. I gotta say, that vanilla cup dessert does sound a bit odd! 😉 Happy belated birthday!

Yes. We pulled out of the district for a full virtual platform. It was a good experience, but he wants to go back to brick and mortar.

The ice cream was odd but trust me, it was amazing.

Such a busy week for you!!! That ice cream and olive oil concoction looks interesting? I don’t know that I would have ordered it, but I’m glad to hear it tasted good.

I never went to overnight camp as a kid, but when I was in grad school, I went to a children’s oncology camp as a counselor. It was so much fun! We slept in rustic cabins, not tents, tho. Will you be tent camping? I have no advice except bug spray and enjoy! I’m sure you’ll have good stories to tell. Your wisdom tooth extraction will be a breeze after that, lol

No tent camping this year, although I don’t mind it. I think it will be fun, but I’m nervous because I don’t know what to expect, and I struggle with feeling like an outsider sometimes. It will be ok.

And I messed up my weeks! I have to wait one more week before the surgery! Ack!
