week 72: finish the party strong

five ways to honor mental health awareness month

Who doesn’t love runfession time?

For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…

runfessions

I runfess…

That I decided to skip out on Monday’s Memorial Day 5K. This was my first and favorite 5k, and I am sad about it. I already missed last year due to my leg and COVID, so I was hoping for as strong comeback this year. Yes, I could go and walk it, but it’s going to be hot, and after my procedure, I just don’t have the mental bandwidth to push through.

I runfess…

That my wisdom tooth extraction went much better than I thought in a lot of ways. In fact, the entire thing was very fast (the surgeon does not mess around). Mr PugRunner said I was in and out in about 20 minutes. When I got home, I was in virtually no pain on the right side (the tooth that was sideways) and in terrible pain on the left. We got that under control, but then the nausea kicked in and I spent most of Day 2 throwing up and sick to my stomach. Ugh. I would rather the pain. However, the surgeon called in something to help and now that’s under control as well. I’m still sore, and weak, but not super swollen. I’m also beyond ravenous, so we need to do something about that, because yogurt and milkshakes aren’t cutting it.

I runfess…

That the travel bug hit me HARD. Getting away, even for a short overnight, really emphasized that for me. We have a few trips planned for the upcoming months and it makes me so happy. Even the one where I go to summer camp with the Scouts and send a week doing Scout like things. Double runfession: I’m glad that I’m getting that trip out of the way first.

I runfess…

That I am a terrible patient. It’s just not in me to want to lay around and eat soft foods and take medication on a schedule. It’s what my body needs, of course, but that doesn’t mean I have to be happy about it. It has been a good excuse to catch up on my reading.

I runfess…

That I have enjoyed getting reacquainted with Yelp. I used to be on it fairly regularly, and then I fell away. However, it’s been a great way to find new things to do in our city, and I’m excited for more fun events, like virtual cocktail making classes and similar things. You can find more of my reviews and photos here.

What are you runfessing this month?

I didn’t know that I could look up events on Yelp, I thought it was just for reviewing restaurants – thanks for the tip!

So glad that your procedure went well but sorry about the nausea 🙁 Do you know when you’ll be able to eat solid foods again? I know the liquid/smooth foods diet isn’t ideal, but maybe you can try a few protein smoothies to help you stay fuller longer?

Glad the procedure went well! Hopefully you will be back to eating normally soon. Sounds like its probably a good idea to skip out on the race if you’re still not feeling back to normal.

Good for you for listening to your body. You will know when you are ready to run a race again. If not this weekend, then sometime in the future.

The travel bug has bitten me too. It feels like all the pent-up traveling that we didn’t do over that past year and a half is now exploding all over the place. I love it! Yeah, I would be glad to get the scout trip out of the way first too! 🙂

Sorry about the nausea, but I’m glad the procedure went well. I hope you can get back to solid food soon – I would be starving too!

I am looking forward to traveling again – I really could use a change of scenery!

I had no idea that you could look up events on Yelp! I will have to check that out.

Oh, you had your wisdom teeth out!!!!! Very hard when you’re older. I had to have mine out at the age of 48 and it felt like they were extracting part of my skull. Ugh! I hope you feel better soon.

I know it’s tough to have to pass on your favorite 5K but I’m going to bet that it will still be there next year. And there will be NO OBSTACLES in the way next year. Mark my words!

I’m really glad your tooth extraction went well! But I’m so sorry you got sick. Was that from pain meds? Or something else?

Now that I have my vaccine appointment (Dutch J&J version called Janssen) I also am dreaming of my first trip. And it will either be to see all my parents (bio + steps) in November or just to see my dad and stepmom when/if they go to Spain in October. I. CAN. NOT. WAIT.

I runfess I’m also a terrible patient. I learned that with Herniagate. I’m planning on reading as well while I’m in recovery in June.

    I don’t Yelp, I tripadvisor !

I’m glad you’re recovering well! I always get sick from pain meds too. I think it’s pretty common in women. Maybe they need to invent new pain meds for us, right?

I just went on my first trip, last weekend to see Holly, and it felt so good! That is, once I got to her. I’ll share my trials on next week’s coffee talk post. We had so much fun and I’m ready to go back!

Glad your procedure went well and that you are feeling better? Was it the pain meds that made you sick? MY daughter had the worst experience after her wisdom teeth were out and won’t take anything stronger than Tylenol ever again.

I have the travel bug and haven’t even gone anywhere yet!

I was never swollen or throwing up, thank goodness (so sorry that happened to you) but I could barely eat for weeks. Could barely open my mouth, but I had all 4 done at once.

I also didn’t have many vacation days left at the time. I think I worked pretty much right up to the procedure, had a long weekend off, ‘PB& then it was back to work (this was way back when I worked outside the home).

We already have our next trip planned, pretty much plan to go to see friends a few months after that. Maybe there will be a racecation at the end of the year (and maybe not). Time will tell.

    Feel better!

Yelp! I have not heard that word in a long time. I will have to install the app again on my phone. I didn’t know you could use it to find events of things. Feel better soon!
