Summer skincare in Florida needs to be taken extra seriously. With the sun out from 6:00AM to 8:30PM, there’s really no escaping the heat and UV rays. It’s never fun to dry out or burn, so we’re going to go over the best tips to keep the largest organ of our bodies happy and healthy though the next few months.
Hydrate
Much as I hate to say it, hydration is the first step in effective summer skincare. Drink your water, friends. If you’re like me, and can’t stand H20, use Nuun tablets or infuse your water with fruit or other flavoring. Get it down however you can, because it really is the best way to keep your skin healthy in the heat.
Moisturize
Drinking water is great for the inside out, but summer skincare absolutely relies on lotions and moisturizers. Whether you have prefer a luxury brand cream, or use coconut oil straight from the jar, your thirsty skin will thank you for the TLC.
Protect
Since there’s just no avoiding the sun, we must protect ourselves from it. Our best defenses involve sunscreen, especially on the face, sunglasses, and a hat or visor. The more we can shield ourselves from the bright light, the better off our skin will be. After all, sun damage is notorious for causing discoloration, wrinkles, and even cancerous patches, so it is in our best interest to keep ourselves as safe as possible. (If you do get burned, be sure to load up on the aloe. Keep it in the fridge for extra soothing relief).
Schedule An Appointment With Your Dermatologist
I feel like the older we get, the more doctors and specialists we need to see. Summer is a great time to schedule with your dermatologist to ensure that everything on your skin is how it should be. Early detection is our greatest weapon against things like cancer, so make these visits a priority, for sure.
Treat Yourself
Summer skincare shouldn’t be all work. In fact, you can have some fun and treat yourself with a spa day. If you’re not comfortable visiting a facility, then go ahead and do a home facial or treatment. Splurge on a yummy sugar scrub, use a Vitamin-C infused sheet mask to brighten and open your pores, or even (carefully) do some dermaplaning to shed dry skin cells. Our skin works hard – let’s show it how much we appreciate it!

thanks for the reminders.
It’s so easy to let things slide.
Like you I’m not a water drinker. I have to force myself.
I always wear make up and lipstick to protect my face and lips from the sun. And I wear a baseball cap to shield my face and scalp. (People forget that you can get sunburned on your scalp where few people put sunscreen)
Love the mask pic – so cute.

Great tips! I have to get better with sunscreen! I tan naturally but it doesn’t mean I can skip sunscreen.
Your sun is a good sport! 😉

I’ve wanted to do a blog post like this for a while! Please allow me to share this on my FB when summer is here again! I like that it’s simple, easy to understand and follow!

These are great tips Jenn. Honestly I have never been great at skincare and I think I could really use a spa treatment session and maybe even invest in a few products to keep my skin looking a bit more “alive”. My biggest issue is not knowing where to start and wanting to have products without a bunch of unpronounceable ingredients in them. Definitely on my list of things to do in the near future.

Ugh, I definitely need these reminders because I’m really bad about taking care of my skin! The only one of these I really do consistently is hydrate. I really, really should make a dematologist appointment, but…. we’ll see.
Thanks for the tips!

I am extra vigilant these days with the sunscreen as I have had a few things taken off. Thanks for tips!

I’ve always had dry and very sensitive skin, so proper skincare has been front and center for most of my life. Cleansing, exfoliating, and lots of moisturizing…as well as protection. It took me awhile to get on the hydration wagon, but the past few years, I’ve done well. The true test was the seven months of Invisalign when I could only drink plain water…and I made it!

Great tips! I also love using FRE. I actually just went to the dermatologist last week. I missed my appointment last year because of COVID so I was glad to get in and know that everything is ok.

Great reminders! I just recently lightened up my moisturizer as I seem to sweat all freaking day long. Ugh!

I’m pretty diligent about my skincare though I could probably still do a better job with the sunscreen. I rely on my moisturizer that has an SPF30 but in the summer months, I can get lazy about sunscreen on my neck and shoulders during a run. Thanks for the reminders!

Great tips! I am good about hydrating and have been applying sunscreen before going out to run. Yep, I also moisturize everyday. I go to the dermatologist every few years but do agree that the older we get, the more doctors and specialists we see. 🙂

These are great tips! My skin is always so thirsty for moisture and hydration during the summer so I typically use shea butter since it’s super hydrating.
