Happy 4th of July, friends. I don’t know what it was about this past week, but I have been in a bit of a funk. Can blame it on the weather? Most likely. It has been raining forever, and now we are watching Hurricane Elsa churn her way towards Florida. I’m not expecting anything too serious, but it will be more rain and wet. Ew.
Sunday – 4.53 miles, walking
Slept in. Got in a nice walk. Yay.
That afternoon, I had some kind of allergy attack. There must have been something blooming, because my eyes were running and I couldn’t stop sneezing. It was awful because we were meeting up with my in-laws for dinner before they headed home, and I was just so miserable. It was good to see them, even if I was in the middle of a flare-up.
Monday – 5.02 miles, hill repeats
I woke up feeling much better on Monday, and so headed out for my usual bridge run. Everything was going fine until the heavens opened. It was truly a bizarre storm: blinding sun, hot rain, and then a rainbow. I had to take a little break and hide out under the trees in one of the parking areas, because the path gets super slippery, and I was nervous about footing. A man, who had finished his run, offered me a poncho, which was super kind, but I got out there to finish.
I’m glad I took my pictures first.
Tuesday – 5.01 miles, running + 1.51 miles, walking
Tuesday was a normal run with J. It was pretty hot and humid, but so be it.
Again, we had a quiet day. The rain just isn’t much of a motivator to do anything. So we didn’t.
Wednesday – 4.40 miles, walking
June 30 was an incredibly special day! It was the day I finished my 30 day streak! Yay!
This is the first time I’ve ever done something like this, so I was pretty darn proud of myself.
A got to spend the afternoon with a friend, and then we had takeout for dinner. All good things.
Thursday – 8 miles running + 1 mile, walking
Due to some scheduling conflicts for the holiday weekend, J and I decided to do our long run on Thursday instead. It was just awful out. Hot, even at 5:45AM. Swampy. We were miserable. MISERABLE. But we did it. Normally, I would be down for a great runfie after a long run, but not this time. Instead, check out my gorgeous new Pride Goodrs, from a sweet friend.
And then I had to be on my way. I had a morning hair appointment, and was so happy to be there. My stylist is fabulous and does such a great job. I always feel so much better after being there.
Friday – 4.18 miles, walking
Friday’s walk was decent. We had a few hours of sun before the storms. Again. I had to do some serious stretching since I had a nasty cramp in my calf that was still sore.
Mr PugRunner and I had a day date, where we got to sample some of the limited time Street Corn menu offering at Tijuana Flats. I love street corn, so this was perfect.
Saturday – 5 miles, running + 1.4 miles, walking
I was on my own for this run, and I just didn’t hit the goals I wanted. Six was in my sights, but it was just too soggy. I ran my five, and then moved on to walk the rest. Blah.
I hustled to get coffee, and then S dropped off Ollie for the weekend. I love puppy sitting.
And then we spent the rest of the day kind of chilling out. We did experiment with the air fryer to make some of those pasta chips everyone is raving about. They were fabulous.
Goal-getting
It was a solid week. And it was really nice to kind of decompress and not do much of anything. Sometimes, I need that, even if it does make me feel like a bit of a slug. Oh, well.
Today, we will attend a small get together with some friends. I’m feeling a little bit brighter about everything, and my anxiety is starting to clear up a tad. That means next week will be easier for me, and I can focus on having a little more fun and making some more plans with A so he can have a great summer, too. All I need is for Elsa to “let it go” and move out to sea.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training?
Do you ever just have weeks where you can’t get yourself in a productive mindset? How do you cope?
Deborah Brooks says
the weather is always challenging this time of the year. Looks like you still got in a pretty solid week of workouts, Happy 4th
runswithpugs says
Happy 4th to you as well!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
The rain can be such a downer! Hopefully Elsa will pass by without causing you any issues. Still looks like a great week for you!
runswithpugs says
I made it work for sure! This week will be interesting, but I’m just going to have to make it happen!
Darlene S Cardillo says
What a good week of running in spite of the rain.
I hope those Florida storms w=are mild.
Love your hair, Haircuts/color are the best. I was bummed that my nail salon was closed today.
I’ve been wanting forever to redo our kitchen and I couldn’t get going. Im going to pay for it because things are so backordered and $$.

We are going to wait for a while to let materials come back to normal and supply chains to get restored. It will be too stressful otherwise, especially for Mr PugRunner. He has a hard time dealing with home renovation.
I really want to get my nails done, but I also don’t want to get caught up in the cycle of having to get them done regularly. Decisions, decisions.
Wendy says
I’m glad your anxiety is starting to ease. Mine has been pretty good, but every once in a while out of the blue, I get a flare up. I guess when you are a worrier, you never can totally relax…
We’ve had some downright tropical weather here too. Then it cooled off, but the tropical stuff is back. It’s summer…
runswithpugs says
This is certainly a wetter year than usual for us. I’m not a fan.
Anxiety is the worst. I work really hard to be ok, but sometimes I can’t get ahead of it. This week is better.
Jenny says
Yep, last week was special. Hot and steamy, tons of rain. Sounds like you got in some good workouts in spite of it all!
We’re getting worried about Elsa. We’re outside of the cone but not by much, and we’re supposed to fly out on Tuesday for our vacation. ARG.
Glad you’re feeling better! Summers can be hard.
runswithpugs says
I really hope she breaks up even more. I don’t like this time of year, and I hope you stay safe, and can get out on your vacation safely.
Liz Dexter says
Hair’s looking good! I had mine cut for the first time since Feb 2020 last week, feels so much lighter, esp when I put it in a ponytail to run! I don’t think air dried pasta has hit here yet, sounds intriguing. And hope the hurricane has left you alone.
runswithpugs says
Thank you! I love when my stylist debulks it – it’s so much lighter.
We are still watching Elsa. These storms take a few days to show up. It’s good because we can prepare, but bad because all the waiting!
Michelle D. says
I’m glad you’re feeling better!
Congrats on completing your streak!
I hope you were able to dodge Elsa and have a nice 4th.
runswithpugs says
Elsa is making up her mind. She broke up a little, but now she’s making different arrangements. Ugh. Go away, storm.
Jessie says
Congratulations on the streak!
Your pictures are always so vivid, blue skies and sunshine, its weird to hear about the random storm! Glad you were safe.
Your hair looks gorgeous!
runswithpugs says
I do love taking photos. I wish I could keep up with it professionally, but it just isn’t in the cards.
Cari says
Yep. Yep. Feel you on those weeks. *HUGS*
So glad you love the sunnies
runswithpugs says
I do, so much! This week is getting better.
Kimberly Hatting says
It got very Florida-like this weekend, and it was pretty humid and sticky today for our 5K. I made it a point to sit in the grass (when I was done) so my soaking-wet shorts could “absorb into” the grass. It was bad LOL Those pasta chips sound interesting…I might have to give those a try.
runswithpugs says
The chips were good! Not for all the time, but definitely something different.
I can wring out my running clothes when I’m done, that’s how awful it is. Yuck.
Kim G says
Totally relate to feeling blah last week. For me, it was the ridiculous heat wave just sucking all of my energy.
Congrats on finishing your 30 day streak!
I saw those pasta cups on TikTok but debated making them, but now that you said they were good, I will try them!
runswithpugs says
They are really delicious.
Hugs to you. I hope the heat wave eases up so you can get some energy back.
Coco says
Yay on your run streak! Ugh on the allergies. I had to sneeze on my bike ride today and that was challenging! The pugs are so cute!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I hope Elsa left you alone. We’re experiencing rain from the outer bands this evening, but won’t get the heavy rain and wind that they’ll get east of DC.
Hope you’re feeling better!
