Another Friday, another Fit Five Friday linkup! On top of that, it’s time for the August Ultimate Coffee Date! I love that we can share with each other over a virtual coffee, or other beverage.
After reading here, head on over to visit Coco and Deborah, our awesome link-up hosts.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That I am looking forward to a really low-key weekend. We have zero plans, other than to watch the Miami Hurricanes play on Saturday. I’m not even super invested in the game, but it will be nice to sit and eat fun food and disengage for a while.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That I am thinking about signing up for a Labor Day 5K last minute. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to do it in advance, but I guess I’m just not making plans too far ahead. You just don’t know what’s going to happen from day to day.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That A got his braces! He’s a little sore, but he did such a good job and I’m super proud of him.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That A is loving being back at school. He really thrives in the routine and being around people, and I am so happy for him. Of course, as our COVID numbers climb, I spend every day anxiously awaiting a phone call or email saying that he has been in close contact with an ill classmate and will need to follow protocols, but so far, so good.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That I am trying to channel my disappointment in certain current events into something productive. Rather than withdrawing, I want to do something to serve my community, to be the change, and part of the solution. I have some brainstorming to do, for sure.
What would you share over coffee?

We’re on the fence about plans here–watching the weather right now. It’s supposed to rain and if it does, we’ll stay home. We’re going up north next weekend for my youngest’s first rugby game of the season!
I think I know what current events you are referring to–disappointment doesn’t even cover it…disgust? Good for you for being part of the change!

RAAAAAGE!!!!
Have fun at the game!

I have to clean out my kitchen this weekend. So much stuff I didn’t remember buying in those cabinets. I also have a half marathon. But I did say no to a Labor Day 5k.
Enjoy your weekend!
runswithpugs says
I can’t wait to see your kitchen!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
We have zero plans, too. I’ll be prepping for another short overnight trip to my mom and catching up with laundry.
It’s got to be so hard to have A in school but I’m happy for him. Fingers crossed that he’ll be just fine!
Looking forward to hearing what you come up with!

UGGGH!!!! LAUNDRY!!!!! I have another load going right now.
Fingers crossed here, too. It has been hard.
Coco says
We have no specific plans, but I’m sure a few bike rides will take place.
So glad A is back in school. Is he old enough to be vaccinated yet? Do they still have protocols if you’re vaccinated? I know parents and kids are keeping their fingers crossed.
runswithpugs says
Yes, he is old enough and we are all vaccinated, so that’s a help, but everything still feels so unsettled. Technically, there are protocols, but the Department of Health is so far behind on reporting. People are getting the “close contact” emails and calls up to a week after the actual close contact occurred, and by that point, the quarantine period is just about over anyway. Parents have created their own self-reporting groups on Facebook for individual schools, just so we can try to keep on top of it. It’s so upsetting.

We’re having a low key weekend, too! After traveling last weekend and doing Hood to Coast, I couldn’t juggle too much. We have a friend visiting so it’s fun to meet up with a bunch of friends to catch up. Agree on current events – interested to hear what you come up with!
runswithpugs says
It sounds like you could use a break, too! Enjoy your friends and the time you get to spend with them.

I love your custom Starbucks tumbler!
So happy to hear that A is enjoying being back in school this school year. I really hope that this school year will be as normal as possible for kids – they have gone through so much change over the past 18 months.
runswithpugs says
Isn’t it fabulous???
I hope the kids can have this normalcy. We are trying, but it’s been stressful.
Michelle D. says
We have zero plans too and I have to admit the thought of an open weekend makes me giddy!
It’s great to hear A is enjoying being back in school. I know the day-to-day worry is hard – I’m right there with you on that, but I do love that they are back in classrooms.
I feel you on the need to do something productive. I’m looking forward to hearing what you come up with.
runswithpugs says
OMG. My husband keeps asking “so we don’t have plans, right?” And then tries to make plans. STOP IT.
I am still pondering options. I’m having a hard time moving forward on something.
Kimberly Hatting says
We’re road-tripping (again) back to the hubby’s hometown….this time for a class reunion. Ugh…all the car time is a drag. We’re bringing the bikes (and running shoes), so it won’t be all bad LOL
runswithpugs says
I’m glad you’ll get some movement after the car ride! Have fun!
Jenny says
Since I work on Monday it’s not really a holiday. However, my daughter and husband have Tuesday off as well for Rosh Hashana so we may do something fun that day (Tuesday is my day off.) We’ll see!
My daughter also got braces and already part of them broke off- I think she’s eating too many hard crunchy things (sigh,) I swear that’s the hardest part- getting them not to eat the wrong things.
I hope you have a relaxing weekend! If you do a race… have fun!
runswithpugs says
Yikes! A is being super careful about biting and crunchy things. The list they gave him of “don’t” foods was LONG. I don’t remember that from when I had mine, but times have changed.
Enjoy your day off!
Deborah Brooks says
