Happy November! It’s the start of the race to the end of the year. And for the first time in quite some time, it feels like things are going to be a whirlwind of activity. I don’t hate that at all!
Sunday – 3.69 miles, walking
Happy Halloween! The day was here!
I kicked things off with a walk, because, yes. That’s what we do.
We picked up A from his second weekend of camping, and helped him get cleaned up, unpacked and settled. Then we all tok a bit of a break until it was time t get dressed in our costumes and order pizza.
Every year, we like to set out a simple dinner (pizza, tacos, or similar) for the families in our culdesac before the kids head out to trick or treat. It’s a nice way to ensure everyone is fed and (hopefully) won’t gorge on candy along the way.
We snapped a quick family picture, and then Michael Myers took off with his friends. I headed out after him, but I got distracted.
Twice.
Maybe three times. Some days, I really adore our neighborhood.
Monday – 5.55 miles, beach + bridge + bicep workout
We woke up to a cold morning! It was in the high 40s! Eek! Did I go to the beach? Absolutely. Did I freeze? A little bit. But it was a gorgeous day with a gorgeous sunrise, so it was worth it.
I had a ton of work to do, and I had a nail appointment scheduled as well. Getting my nails done is like my new favorite self-care splurge. My artist is so sweet and welcoming and it’s such a nice treat.
We got through clarinet, and karate, and called it a day.
Tuesday – 5.00 miles, running + .99 miles, walking
This run was FIRE. Seriously. It was cold and not so humid and I was just so happy to be out there.
Taco was in a mood, though, making our grooming session a bit challenging. On the plus side, his daily report from his workplace was glowing, so he must have worked out all his crankiness. As long as he’s doing what he needs to do well, I can totally handle a bit of a sour attitude. He still got tons of kisses, whether he wanted them or not.
That evening, I got to lead a meeting, which went well. I am not a fan of being in the leading position, so it takes a lot out of me.
Wednesday – 4.69 miles, walking + armpit/braline workout
Still cool, but tank tops and shorts are back.
I got in my arm workout as well. Next week, I am going to try to find some more dynamic strength series that work arms and legs. Effort is high.
I took A and his buddy grocery shopping for their upcoming camping trip. Wednesdays are an early release day for the schools, so he gets some time to hang out with friends who don’t live in the neighborhood. It’s nice.
That evening, I participated in a Yelp Elite Virtual Grazing Board Event. You know I can’t turn down a good grazing board. Next time I need to add a little more fruit, but that’s ok. The boys devoured it after karate, so it was a good thing.
Thursday – 5 miles, running + .82 miles, walking
I feel like we are getting a bit faster with the colder weather, and that makes my heart happy! Another solid and happy run!
Afterwards, it was time to come home to start celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary! We went to Starbucks for the launch of the #redcup, and to Target, where we bought pots. We are so exciting.
Friday – 2.46 miles, walking
First, a morning walk!
And then, it was off to our anniversary weekend in Savannah! Interestingly, we planned this without realizing the Rock ‘n’ Roll race weekend was going on. Oops. I tried to talk Mr PugRunner into registering, but he was not having it.
We sent A off on his third, consecutive camping trip, and hit the road ourselves. The rain kept getting worse and worse which was so disappointing, as we had lots of plans for the city. Whoops.
Our room was gorgeous, and we settled in with lunch at the hotel, dinner overlooking the river, and drinks to follow.
Saturday – 1 mile walking
The weather was awful. So awful that the full marathon got canceled at the last minute due to half the race course being under water! Yikes. The finish line was right outside our hotel and I thought about going out to cheer, but it was just too awful.
I confess that we had the laziest of days. We slept it. My mile walked consisted of braving the weather to get coffee. We finally got it together enough to enjoy high tea.
And dinner.
The rain finally started to ease water we ate, but we still decided to Uber back to the hotel and watch a movie there.
Goal-getting
And so, the first week of November comes to a close. It was quite a whirlwind, and while it wasn’t exactly as planned, it was much needed all the same.
I have been keeping up with those three days of upper body strength, and I’m thrilled about that. Hopefully, I will see the difference soon.
This week, we are going to take it easy. A has a day off for Veteran’s Day, although we are volunteering with a local organization for the morning. And this upcoming weekend will be quite and calm, which will be great.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Ever been to Savannah? Has rain ever wrecked your travel plans?
Trick or Treat?

Happy Anniversary! Bummer on the rain, but the lazy doy together sounds like the perfect way to celebrate!
Sounds like you had a fun Halloween too!

I heard the weather in Savannah was brutal. Looks like you had a great weekend anyway. Happy anniversary

I’ve never been to Savannah, but it sounds like a beautiful city. Too bad the weather was a buzzkill. Still sounds like a nice getaway. Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary! What a bummer Savannah was so rainy. How sad the marathon had to be canceled. So disappointing for those who’ve trained for months. I’d forgotten R&R even had a race there. Ha! That’s amazing A is able to go on so many camping trips. Enjoy the cooler weather. It does a runner good!

Wow, you really did have a whirlwind of a week! Happy Anniversary- sounds like you made the best of your rainy situation (a lazy day actually sounds really fun to me!) I’m envious of your cold temps! You’re farther north than us, and it makes a big difference.
I like how you call this time the “race to the end of the year.” Yes, i love this season so much, and it goes by SO FAST. Sigh.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Happy belated anniversary! I’ve not been to Savannah, but it sounds lovely and I’d love to visit sometime.
Rain has delayed our trip to the beach house in the past. Because we have to drive on the sand for 3.5 miles to get to our house, we have to be very aware of the sand road conditions.
I love that your school system has Veteran’s Day off as a holiday.

A very busy, but mostly fun, week for you, Jenn! Happy Anniversary! Savannah was my last half (almost 3 years ago!). So some of those locations look really familiar. We stayed in pjs all day while the Nor’easter raged on our anniversary trip, even while going out with Bandit). It was nice actually! Well, not the rain of course.
Glad that you finally got some respite from the heat. The grazing board looks delish!

Happy anniversary. I would love to go to Savannah. Glad you had fun.
Lots of races for me in Nov. not complaining after the drought of 2020.

Happy anniversary! Bummer that the weather wasn’t nice for half your stay but Savannah is one of my favorite cities. So cool that you spent your anniversary weekend there!

Happy Anniversary! It’s too bad the weather didn’t cooperate. I would really like to get to Savannah at some point. Sounds like you got to enjoy some cooler temps during the week – that always makes running feel amazing, doesn’t it?!

Happy Anniversary! Sounds like a busy but fun week!

Happy belated anniversary!
Ugh – that’s such a bummer about the weather in Savannah 🙁 I know of a few other runners that were down there for the race as well and were so bummed with the cancellation but totally understood due to the weather.

It was BAD. At first, I was really bummed that I didn’t register, but on Saturday morning, I have never been happier to not be part of a race in my life. It was so wet and soooo cold. There were reports of hypothermia, and it was so easy to slip on the wet cobblestones and bricks.

Happy anniversary! Thats too bad that it rained while you were away. Glad you were still able to make the best of it!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Happy anniversary! Fun that you took a trip as soon as your son went to camp, just like we did! Hey, no use just sitting around alone at home, right? I love when the neighbors hand out some adult treats on Halloween!

It was pretty stressful. We had some great neighbors and friends who were stepping up, but the day we left was AWFUL weather, and for a minute, it looked like the camping would be off entirely. That being said, the kids had better weather than us or back home, so it all worked out.
