How can it be two weeks until DONNA? It’s been said before, but the hay is pretty much in the barn. Now we just sort of have to sit back and ride it out. You know how great I am at sitting and waiting.
Sunday – 3.44 miles, running
Obviously, this Sunday was nowhere near as fun as last Sunday, with our sloth visit. Womp womp.
But I still got in some miles.
A and I went to a local park to scope some things out for his upcoming Eagle Project, and then we got lunch. I was really craving the baked potato from Woodpecker’s. It hit the spot.
Monday – 4.31 miles, walking
I miss the beach!!! It was just too cold and too windy to risk it. Safety must always come first.
Even though it was a day off, we didn’t have much of anything planned. A wanted to hang with his buddies and fish, and that was fine. He also had the day off from clarinet and karate, so that was nice for him.
Tuesday – 5.01 miles, running + .64 miles, walking
Tuesdays are for running.
Tuesdays are also Taco days. I think the cold temperatures made their mark on my mini horse friend: he was super chill and cooperative, and I was grateful for that.
Wednesday – 3.45 miles, walking
I slept in and still froze my butt off. My fingers and toes do not appreciate it at all.
Once I was done, I ran errands, and started getting ready for our weekend camping adventure.
It was also report card day. A scored Honor Roll again!
Thursday – 10.46 miles, running + .86 miles, walking
Due to me being away this weekend, we did our long run on Thursday. It went well-isn. Obviously, it was warmed up a bit, which was nice. But I think we are ready for our half marathon.
From there, I had a bunch to do: there are always last minute things to grab for camping, and then Mr PugRunner wanted t orange lunch together. we tried the new Culver’s by us, and it was really god.
That evening, I attended my first book club. The book was “Finding Dorothy” by Elizabeth Letts, about the wife of Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum. I liked the book (the story was good, but the writing wasn’t great), and I made mini “Char-cup-peries” in honor of National Cheese Lover’s Day!
Friday – 3.97 miles, walking
Was it warmed up? A little. I got in some miles in my new Skirt Sports Lotta Breeze skirt! Visit their site and use code SHAREIT15 to save 15% on yours!
The rest of the day was dedicated to packing and loading up the car. We headed to the Daytona International Speedway for a Scouts Weekend campout.
Saturday – 2.67 miles, walking
Saturday was somewhat of a blur. I got in my walk (with one mile towards my ongoing streak), and then just lost myself in the day. It was freezing (in the 40s) and misty and windy, so everything was just blah. However, the Scouts loved the chance to check out the race track, so that was good.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
The end of the week was pretty hectic. I didn’t have much WIFI while camping, and it was so cold that I didn’t bother too much with my phone since it meant letting go of my handwarmers.
Now let’s finish off this training cycle!
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Are you ready for your next race?
Jenny says
Oh, brr! I’m usually envious of your weather up there, but that’s a little too cold! Camping in the 40s sounds hard. But, glad to hear you got your runs in and feel good! You’ll be in great shape for your race. You are correct- the hay is in the barn!
runswithpugs says
It would have been more tolerable without the rain, but what can you do?
Kimberly Hatting says
Yeah, I done got chilly this week. It felt like I was back in Iowa, LOL The wind was crazy!
runswithpugs says
The wind was NUTS!
Deborah Brooks says
Those fruit and chocolate cups are so cute! It is exciting that your first race of the year is coming up soon. You are ready just try to taper and chill until race day
runswithpugs says
Trying! LOL!
Coco says
Too cold to use your phone! That’s serious. Sorry the weekend was gloomy, but no doubt the boys had a blast!
runswithpugs says
The kids loved it!
Darlene says
A great week for you. now you can start to enjoy the taper.
Cold is relative. It was -6 on Saturday here. 30 felt like a heat wave.
My half is a week after yours.
I thought I was ready for yesterdays. But boy did it feel hard!
runswithpugs says
Grumble grumble taper.
I know the temps are different, and it sounds warmer, but when you’re not used to it, and don’t have the gear to withstand it, it’s hard. Public spaces blast a/c even in the dead of winter. I don’t have anything that’s really wool or fleece-lined because it’s useless the rest of the year, so hats/gloves/leggings are more of a layer, but don’t necessarily retain heat. And the humidity with the cold really just digs into your soul. In fact, the one day was 32, sunny and low humidity and I could have run in a tank and shorts. The next day was 55, misty, humid, and cloudy, and I couldn’t get warmed up all day. Florida is weird.

It sure sounds like you are ready for Donna!!! Smart move, getting that long run in during the week. I would have done the same thing.
Culvers is the only ‘fast food’ I’ll eat. Interestingly, it started in Sauk City, Wisconsin, which is right by where our lake house is and all my hiking trails.
Good luck this weekend!
runswithpugs says
I don’t really eat a ton of fast food, but those cheese curds will make a repeat customer out of me.
Jessie says
40’s are chilly for camping!
Two weeks! Best of luck at the race! You’ve trained hard and put in the miles, you’re going to do great!
runswithpugs says
One night was in the 30s! What!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
That sounds like a very busy week! And glad the scouts enjoyed the camping because at those temps it wouldn’t excite me (not that it excites me anyway).
Now it’s time to “coast” until your half! I hope you have great weather for it b
Chocolaterunsjudy recently posted…Steaming away: 1/17 – 23 WRD
runswithpugs says
The Scouts loved it. The adults loved it a lot less!
Marcia says
Wow that is chilly for FL! Glad you made the best of it. Have so much fun running Donna!
runswithpugs says
It really is. I have been wearing so many sweaters lol!
Michelle D. says
Those cups are so cute 🙂
I can’t believe you’re just two weeks away from Donna! Your running has been going really well – can’t wait to see how the race goes!
runswithpugs says
I love them!
I’m excited, too!
Stacie Seidman says
It’s been cold everywhere it seems! Hope it warms up some for you (but not too much) soon! So exciting your half is coming up, you’re going to be great!
runswithpugs says
Fingers crossed!
Shathiso says
I also think you’re ready for your Half!
Does it usually get this cold at this time of year in Florida? Or are these lows quite unusual?
runswithpugs says
Fingers crossed!
So, the actual temperatures are not unusual. However, it’s usually only for a few days during a few weeks. This is the longest and most consistently cold I can remember in all the time I’ve lived here. Like we started putting the heat on in November, vs. January in other years.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
The race track does sound like a great place for the boys to visit. Fun! The weather does sound rough though – but hey, kids don’t care! So exciting that you are so ready for your race – you’ve come a long way from your injury. Now it’s time for bubble wrap 🙂 Cute skirt! And congrats on the honor roll. Well done!!
runswithpugs says
Seriously. Bubble wrap and a fuzzy blanket and I’m all set.
