As January lasted forever, so did February seem to fly by. But we are back with our February runfessions.
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
I runfess…
That I have a secret! Keep an eye on my Instagram for the big reveal tomorrow! It’s been pretty hard holding this one in, but eek! It’s going to be so worth it.
I runfess…
That I have two more days to decide if I am going to attempt the Gate River Run next weekend. It’s a 15K with two big bridges. I have been walking daily, and stretching and doing strength training, but I haven’t run since the DONNA half. My knee has felt good the last two days, but I’ve been scared to try to run. Saturday is the moment of truth.
I runfess…
That Seasonal Affective Disorder is a beast. I am so grateful that we get so much sunlight here, because the string of dark, rainy, and dismal days really brought me down. There were so many days where I just didn’t want to get out of bed, or function. This winter has hit me harder than usual, and I am glad it’s drawing to a close.
I runfess…
That in addition to my SAD, the state of the world has me extra down. I actively try to be part of solutions, but right now I don’t even know where to start. People continue to disappoint and horrify me with their behavior, and it gets difficult to remain positive and keep fighting the uphill battle against ignorance, cruelty, and hatred. Every so often, I have to take a breather and then keep pushing.
I runfess…
That I have been exercising my mind as much as my body, and making so much more of an effort to do so. I’m proud to say I’m reading about a book a week, which is fantastic. In addition, I’m crushing it at Wordle, and play that every morning when I wake up. It’s always good to keep the brain working hard.
Do you get SAD? Reading anything good? What are you runfessing today?

You know I really struggle with SAD! As the days get longer, though, I feel SO much better. It’s not truly depression for me, although there’s an element of that, it’s actually physical.
Good luck with whatever you decide! I know you can do it, taking a week off after your half will not be a problem. Whether or not you should — you will figure it out.
You’ve been hinting at something animal wise for a while (although maybe I’ve read that wrong). I guess I’ll have to wait til Sunday!

I used to have SAD really badly when I lived up north. That’s why I live in Florida! We get so much sunlight (at least down here where I am) it’s not an issue- although every once in a while we’ll have an unusual string of cloudy days and I’ll have a very mild dip in my mood- so I’m reminded why I live here.
Good luck on Saturday! Someone once said the first day back running after an injury (or, in your case let’s call it an “issue”) is either the best day or the worst day ever. If it hurts again, you’re totally devastated and if it doesn’t hurt, elation! Let’s hope Saturday is your best day ever.

Is there a shorter distance you can run? Or maybe do a walk run for the 15K?
I’m sorry that you’re having a tough winter. The state of the world has been so tough this winter. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Now you’ve got me in suspense! Can’t wait to hear what that secret is! Good luck making the decision about whether to race or not. Sorry about your SAD and hope it starts to ease as spring approaches xxx

Such a tough call on next weekend’s race. I hope your run on Saturday gives you a good sign of which way to go.
It is definitely hard to remain optimistic and hopeful at times when you look at all that is going on in the world.
Looking forward to your big news!

I “Wordlefessed” in my post, LOL I finally got on the bandwagon a few weeks ago. Word games like that are great to keep our minds on alert and functioning 😉

Yup I start my day with Wordle but I just don’t post my score. I also have been reading more.
If you have SAD, stay in Fla. It’s awful here. That’s one reason I refuse to use the treadmill. Even if it is cold out, I go out for a while… it always makes me feel better – fresh air is a must.
Oh the suspense…can’t wait to hear your news.

Sometimes I like it when it is dark and gloomy. It is a perfect day to stay home to relax and watch TV. However, too many days like that is not good for me either. A book a week? How do you do it? It took me about 2 months to finish one. I have a whole list of books that I made from Wendy’s reviews. I will never catch up.
Wendy says
Oh Jenn, I have been struggling with SAD lately. Now you know why I battle the cold to get my runs outside–the natural light and movement really helps me. Mostly I just miss my boys. I haven’t seen them since Christmas and I need to remedy that. With Omicron, I was staying away, but now our case count is down and I feel better about going out. On the other hand, they have their own lives and I’m glad for that.
Off to check your IG to see what you’re revealing!
