And just when I thought the weather was on lock, the rain and cold fronts are back with a vengeance. No, thank you.
Sunday
- Cardio: 1.43 miles, walking
- Lean Legs Challenge: :45 bridge, :40 wall sit, 13 donkey kicks, 30 crunches
I confess to messing up a little: for some reason I thought this was the time change, so I set the clocks ahead. Whoops.
But I still had time for a quick walk and workout.
And then we went to our local Strawberry Festival. It wasn’t everything I hoped it would be, but we did get some fresh strawberries.
And the boys got to ride in the back of a monster drive.
Monday
- Cardio: 3.24 miles, walking
- Lean Legs Challenge: :50 bridge, :45 wall sit, 14 donkey kicks, 30 crunches
- Armpit/Braline Circuit: 3×10 Reverse Flys, Reverse Rows, Around The Worlds
- Glutes/Hamstring Circuit: 2×10 Static Reverse Lunge with a Deficit, Goblet Squats, Single Leg RDLs with Deficit (each side), Wall squats with a Deficit, RDLs with a Deficit
Things to do, things to do. This is A’s last week of school leading into Spring Break, so it got fairly intense.
Obviously the week started with a walk.
And wall sits. I have really missed wall sits. They aren’t as easy as they used to be, but I’m determined too get them back.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 4.93 miles, walking
- Lean Legs Challenge: :60 bridge, :55 wall sit, 16 donkey kicks, 35 crunches
- Chest Circuit: 3 x 12 alternating dumbbelll press, close grip chest press, incline chest press, close grip incline press, 2 x 25 chest flys
Happy International Women’s Day! I started the day with the ZOOMA Women’s Day 5K, plus a little extra.
So Tuesday’s big event was A’s Musical Performance Assessment for band. He was invited to join a few months back, and was even asked to switch instruments from clarinet to bass clarinet for the event. He and his bandmates had to play three rehearsed pieces on stage, and then they retired to the band room and had to sight read two completely new pieces. Adjudicators were present for both, and they scored all As and Superiors across the board. We are all so proud.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.36 miles, walking
- Lean Legs Challenge: 13 coffin sit ups , 14 Leg Lifts, 14 Push Ups, 13 Plank Jacks, :75 plank
- Glute Circuit: 3 x 20 dumbbell hip thrust, RDLs, Sumo Squats, 2 x 15 Bulgarian Split Squats, 2 x 12 Step Ups
Thursday – 4.55 miles, walking + core challenge day 18 + shoulder session
- Cardio: 5.0 miles, walking

- Biceps Circuit: 3×10 reverse curls, wide grip curls, close grip curls, round the world curls, iso hammer curls, waiter curls, supinating curls, drag curls
Check out those cloudy skies. Blah.
The day was a bit chaotic. I had some errands to run before the break, and traffic was awful. Eventually I made it home, just in time to pick up the kids from their last day of school so they didn’t have to walk in the rain.
For dinner, A made some mahi, which we ate with some leftovers. Not fancy, but oh, so, good.
Friday
- Cardio: 3.38 miles, walking
- Lean Legs Challenge: :45 Bridge on toes, :20 one-legged wall sit (on each side), 13 straight leg donkey kicks (each side), 30 crunches
- Triceps Circuit: 3 x 20 Overhead Tricep extensions, 3 x 12 alternating skull crushers (24 total each time), 4 x 10 tricep dips
Happy first day of Spring Break! And happy first day of vile rain.
I am really enjoying the Lean Legs Challenge this month, too. The moves aren’t difficult, but they are testing me, and I definitely need that.
After my walk, we were supposed to go to The Players’ Championship, but the weather was awful. We made the decision to skip, which worked out fine because the event ended up suspending play. To make up for it, we went to see The Batman as a family. I am pretty sure I loved it, but our tickets were in the XD theater, so I couldn’t watch any of the action scenes. Par for the course, I guess.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.03 miles, walking
- Lean Legs Challenge: :45 Bridge on toes, :20 one-legged wall sit (on each side), 13 straight leg donkey kicks (each side), 30 crunches
Welcome to the weekend. I woke up to rain, wind, and tornado watches that came and went.
I got absolutely soaked on my walk, but stayed safe, which was the important thing.
Our plans for the hot air ballon festival kind of fizzled. While the storms promised to clear, the winds would be over 10mph, which meant no go on inflation. What can you do? On the plus side, the boys had a great night for their concert in Orlando, so at least there was that.
Instead, I headed to NYC Meatballs & Pizzeria for a Yelp Elite week event. It was a crazy far drive, but the food was incredible.
I came home to a broken freezer, so I salvaged what I could (thank goodness for a garage backup), and settled in for the latest cold front with some one and “Inventing Anna.” With the pugs, of course.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
Now that it’s Spring Break, what are we up to?
Well, my knee is feeling pretty good. It’s hard to admit that my cross training and strength training has been making a difference, but when it works, it works. Therefore, on Tuesday, I’ll be starting Couch To 5K. Again. Time to get back to basics and put in the work.
I’ve got the Raptor Run 3K Fun Run on Sunday! I got the cutest tank top and I can’t wait to be out there with some friends.
A wants to spend more and more time with his buddies, but he also wants to go to Bass Pro Shops, so I’m planning a day trip to take him for a shopping extravaganza. He’s so into fishing, and I love encouraging that.
And from there we’ll see what the weather allows. I had to order a sweater for sweet Leonidas. He’s barely four pounds and is in no way equipped to deal with temps in the 30s and 40s, poor bunny.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Have you ever run Zooma?
Wendy says
Boo to the rain! We’re still dealing with cold and snow–we’re being told that it’s going to warm up today and stay there for the next 10 days at least. HOORAY to that. Sounds like you made the best of your week in spite of the weather.
Congrats to your son on his music achievement! He’s getting so tall!
runswithpugs says
I hate to admit it, but we may be the same height. I do not accept this information.
Darlene says
Boo. You have to come to NY to have real NY pizza.
Your rain is our snow.
I really need some spring weather.
Enjoy your 5k.
You do cardio every day. I wish I could have your mojo.
runswithpugs says
I know. I love NY pizza.
I love cardio. But even walking helps my mood and mobility so much.
Jenny says
I can’t believe we live in the same state- our weather is so different! We did get a little “cold” front last night and woke up to 50 degrees- but it won’t last. We’ll be back in the 80s again tomorrow.
I’m sure all that strength training has helped you! Where do you get your challenges from?
Congrats to A and his band! And one last thing… I must see a picture of Leo in his sweater.
runswithpugs says
We won’t see the 80s for another two weeks or so. I’m bummed.
I find my challenges on Pinterest. There are so many great ones out there. I try to post on my blog and on my IG stories at the beginning of the month when I start a new one.
I will post Leo in his sweater this week! He’s so freaking adorable!
Liz Dexter says
Well done to A on band. I’m a clarinettist, too, though living in a terraced house and before that two flats, I don’t play any more. I used to do a clarinet choir weekend course every now and again and get to play the alto. And a good strong week – well done for getting that strength and cross training work in.

I am too proud of A and his band. I hope it’s something that stays with him in the future, too.
I’m really committing myself for the cross training. I need to be healthy and strong.

…and Iowa is (finally) on the upswing with the weather. Happy Dance!!!! I took Max outside, early this morning, and the 34F temps felt rather balmy. It’s supposed to reach 58F this afternoon 😉 Believe me, that’s a big deal!
runswithpugs says
we have the same weather here. That doesn’t seem fair.
Jessie says
Sorry the hot air balloon and strawberry festivals weren’t all that/able to occur, but still sounds like a full week! We just finished Investing Anna then breezed through the Tinder Swindler. How did Anna get more prison time than him??? It doesn’t make any sense…
Aww, love the pug pics. Great Netflix watching buddies.
Hope the knee continues to feel good!
runswithpugs says
I watched The Tinder Swindler first, and all I have to say is I am glad I’m not dating in today’s day and age. I am also watching The Dropout about Elizabeth Holmes. Yikes.
The pugs are the best for couch time.
Deborah Brooks says
Great to see you keeping up with your strength training. It will be so great for you in the long run. Hope your weather clears up! Enjoy your spring break
runswithpugs says
I know, I know! It just takes up time I didn’t want to give. Boo.
Coco says
Sounds like you made the best of a soggy week! Huge congrats to A for doing so well on that performance assessment — it sounds really hard.
I’m glad you’re knee is feeling better. I hope you have better weather for spring break.
runswithpugs says
The band was amazing!
So oefar, we’ve had a little rain, but it’s been pretty. I think.
Marcia says
A has gotten so tall! Congrats to him on his musical achievements. I’m sure you are so proud! I’m so sorry the rain decided to come just in time for spring break. Total buzzkill but you made the best of it. Our spring break doesn’t start until 3/22. I think I ran my first ZOOMA race back in 2012.
runswithpugs says
2012 sounds about right. It was very different back then, so I am excited for this year.
He has sprouted up! I don’t know that I love it lol! But yes. We are very proud.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
It sounds like you had a great workout week. Keep up the strength training. It’s so good for you!
My son and daughter-in-low live in the Tampa area and went to a strawberry festival there yesterday. I’m bummed that it will be over by the time we get down there. Ya’ll better get the rain to move out by next Tuesday. LOL 😉
runswithpugs says
That’s where I want to go next year. The Plant City festival is where it’s at.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
You did great despite the weather. Poor Leo! We still have Lola’s sweaters. That girl had no body fat. They don’t fit Bandit. I don’t know why we still have them, the same reason we still have her FILLED kongs.
I’m glad your knee feels better. No shame in revisiting C25K. I think many of us have done that!

Luna is soooo lean. Leonidas is a tiny bean. Maybe four pounds. He came to us with a cat collar and we ordered him an XXS harness and it’s still tooo big.
We kept a lot of the other pugs’ things as is. It’s hard to move on.
Michelle says
Sorry, the rain got in the way of your plans – hopefully, this week will be better.
Great news to hear your knee is feeling better! I think using C25K to get started again sounds like a great plan.
runswithpugs says
I think it will be a good way to ease back.
Here’s hoping this week is better.
Kim G says
I love that photo of the pugs, although it looks like they are putting their heads together to plan something, lol.
That’s great news that your knee is feeling better! The C25K program is a great way to ease back into running and it should be good for your knee too.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Oh no on the freezer issues! Our new one was supposed to be delivered, but the plans got messed up with the delivery company, so no freezer when we were promised 🙁 We did get it on Monday, so now it’s time to restock and organize what survived. Hope you get some better weather for your spring break week!
