So May-hem is just about over and June is here. It has been a heavy week.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.29 miles, walking
Good morning, and rise and shine.
A got a ride back from camp, while I went over to the middle school to help stake all the congratulations signs for the 8th graders. We had almost 200 signs that needed to be assembled and planted, and it was steamy hot. Fortunately, there was tons of help, so it didn’t take too long.
Monday
- Cardio: 4.92 miles, running + walking
I didn’t have time for the bridge or beach today, which was a huge bummer. It is what it is.
Let’s admire the new kicks: the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22. I went with the men’s version this time because I couldn’t resist that neon color way.
And then I got my nails done.
A started training in earnest for his new job: assistant teacher as his karate dojo. He turned in his availability schedule for the rest of the year, and I’m so proud he is fearlessly embarking on this journey.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 7.4 miles, running + walking
It’s really summer for here, and our pace reflects that. Yuck.
It was Student Appreciation Week at the school, so I went in to help hand out Tootsie Pops to all the kids at lunch.
I also snagged an impromptu dinner out with these lovelies. It was so good to see them.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.97 miles, walking
After the events of Tuesday, I did go for my walk, but I didn’t take any photos.
I spent most of the day writing emails to various senators, congresspeople and representative. There have been over 200 mass shootings in 2022. Something has to change.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.64 miles, running + walking
Another day. I struggled.
In other news, I registered to be a pollworker in our district. I am annoyed with myself for always just sitting by and not getting involved. No more excuses.
I volunteered again at the middle school. This time, we handed out popsicles to all the students. It was comforting to be in the building.
That evening, A had the opportunity to play at his first high school football game. I cannot even tell you what a welcoming and positive environment it was. I think we all needed that and it was a great introductory experience for A.
Friday
- Cardio: 4.66 miles, walking
Another Friday.
Mr PugRunner and I went to see Top Gun: Maverick. I was not expecting to really, deeply, truly love it. Honestly, it was incredible, one of the best sequels I’ve seen, and I can’t wait to go again. Was it better than the original? Almost. See it. Seriously.
Saturday
- Cardio: 7.33 miles. running + walking
- Yoga: hip opener flow
It was an ok run. J was coming off a breathing test so we just listened to our bodies, and did what felt best. The humidity here is now so high that we have to be extra careful.
Our planned lunch got canceled, so we hung out at the house instead. In the evening, we went to our local wine bar for drinks and apps. I finally got to try their wine slushee, which was nothing short of incredible.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
Friends, I am tired. So very tired. Things are heavy and sad and I just can’t shake that weight. I am starting to venture back into short yoga flows – the pugs object so that’s always fun. I’ll see if I can get video when they are being extra dramatic.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? See any good movies? Any plans for the long weekend? Tell me something good?
Coco says
Kudos to you to writing to legislators and signing up to work the polls. I need to get hooked back into the voter access volunteer work I did in 2020 (remotely then).
Congrats to A. Cool job at the dojo!
runswithpugs says
I have to do something, right?
Jenny says
How are they playing football already??? Ours doesn’t start till August. Our eighth graders have a chance to play with the HS marching band at one of the games in the fall. I think you’re going to love being a HS band parent!
Great job this week, especially with writing emails and volunteering. I’m always impressed with the amount of volunteer work you do on a regular basis, with the school and scouts, etc. And yes… our humidity has been TERRIBLE! Even by Florida standards. Yuck.
runswithpugs says
Just one last game of the year. It was great.
I love volunteering. I just got waitlisted as a poll worker, but that’s ok. Maybe they will need me at some point.
Kim G says
It was such a heavy week 🙁 Like you, I spent the week trying to things of ways I could help the victims. We’re so beyond thoughts and prayers at this point – we need action, and fast.
runswithpugs says
Speedy fast. I just can’t believe that we are at this point with nothing being done.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
That’s such a great opportunity for your son at the dojo. You must be so proud of him for taking on that responsibility and excelling in the sport!
runswithpugs says
We are so proud.
Deborah Brooks says
It was a tough week for everyone. Looks like you managed to stay pretty busy and active. Yoga always calms me down as well
runswithpugs says
I am frustrated with yoga because my practice is super terrible right now. But practice makes progress? I have tot keep up with it.
Wendy says
Good for you for taking action and writing to the legislators. I’m not feeling especially optimistic these days. Glad to see you have so much good going on in your life!

I’m trying hard to focus on that.
Kimberly Hatting says
A tough week, no doubt. It’s exciting, though, that you have a lot of fun things to look forward to, especially for your son’s new journey at the high school.
runswithpugs says
We are all so excited for this upcoming school year.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I always see you as very giving & involved. I don’t at all see you as sitting on the sidelines.
A as a student teacher! Congrats to him!
Thanks for sharing your review of Top Gun. Maybe it’ll be the movie that actually gets us back into the theater?
Spent the day at my moms. We are all tired (it was hot & we ate outdoors in full sun, unfortunately).
I am healthy — that’s my good!

Thank you. That means a lot.
Honestly, you won’t be disappointed. There are a lot of really fun movies coming out: Jurassic World and Thor: Love and Thunder. You can’t go wrong with any of them.
Marcia says
Yes, a heavy week for sure. It’s hard not to feel hopeless. Sigh.
Congrats to A on his job! How fun to play at the football game as well. Exciting times ahead for him in high school! Way to get those workouts in despite the heat.
runswithpugs says
Gotta get the movement in.
He’s going to do great with his job. We are so proud of him.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Congrats to A on his new job! How exciting for him! It’s so cool that he got to play in his first high school football game, but I’m confused, I thought they just wrapped up the school year. Do they play school sports when school isn’t in session?
runswithpugs says
We are still in session. I guess there is one “Spring Game.” I don’t know the reasoning behind it – maybe one last chance for the seniors to play? I just go where they tell me.
Michelle says
I have no words for this week – it’s all been too much. I applaud you for writing the legislators and for signing up to work the polls. I’ve been looking for ways to get involved – I just can’t sit and watch this continue to happen and not do something.
Big congrats to A on his job!
runswithpugs says
And they waitlisted me for the polls! I guess I wasn’t the only one!
Everything is just awful.
