Once we returned home, we were subjected to days and days of storms. We’re talking lighting, power outages, and all kinds of fun. It’s not my favorite time of year, but we have to do our best.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.67 miles, walking
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
It’s never fun coming back from vacation and trying to resume your fitness schedule. This was no exception.
From there, the day was dedicated to laundry and organizing. The pugs seemed to have a great time with their sitter while we were gone, and that was a big relief. That being said, they did need a bath.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.31 miles, running + walking (beach)
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
Much as I love the mountains, it was good to be back at the beach.
A started his intensive, two-week band camp. It promises to be tough, but he was excited to get to work.
While he was gone, I hit Target for back to school supplies. Now that he is going into high school, there isn’t so much of a specific list, so I did my best based on suggestions from friends.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 7.01 miles, running + walking
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
Can we talk about disastrous runs! This was it. I got up, walked the pugs, and by the time I was ready for my run, it was pouring. What? There were no clouds, and nothing on the radar. Nonsense. I was finally able to scoot out for my miles, but it was hot, muggy, and felt awful.
I volunteered at the snack table at band camp that afternoon. The kids looked like they were doing great and I was super proud of them.
In the evening, I had my very first, in-person Yelp Elite event at Hakka Kitchen, a vegan Chinese restaurant. This week, in the Yelp world, we had the chance to attend “Libation Labs”, where the host restaurants showed how they make some of their signature cocktails. It was a lot of fun.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.32 miles, walking
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
Wednesday walks.
I attended my first Arts Booster meeting and was voted on to the board. Might as well jump into high school volunteering head first!
Thursday
- Cardio: 7.41 miles, running+ walking
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
This run felt good. Not great, but good. I’ll take it.
Friday
- Cardio: 3.59 miles, walking
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
TGIF! I hustled through my walk.
And then J and I visited the all new Femme Fire bookstore! It’s a little, woman-owned shop, with a focus on diversity in literature and reading materials. Loved it!
Saturday
- Cardio: 8.67 miles, running + walking
This run actually felt better than Thursday. lI needed the long run vibes, and I think we got it. That being said, I was exhausted from the week, and spent much of the rest of the day napping and reading.
In the evening, we had some friends over for drinks and snacks, and that was nice.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
And so we are back to normal-ish! The rain ended on Thursday, which gave us a decent weekend. Our yard is a bit swampy and oversaturated, but what can you do?
This week, it’s back to band camp and volunteering. I also have my in-person class for being a poll worker, and I have a big proposal to write for a potential client. Fingers crossed it all goes well.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Any bad weather?

Ooh that bookshop looks lovely! We have a new indie one opening on my high street soon – I can’t wait!! I can only admire you doing those hot runs after our heat wave last week. Couldn’t move when it was in the mid to high 90s, then found it hard to cope with the humidity which seems even higher than usual even though the heat’s come down – 92% humidity yesterday for a five-miler and it wasn’t raining! Still I suppose our houses are built to retain heat so we don’t get the relief of getting home! Hope all your activities continue to go well.

It sure is hard to return to your schedule after vacation but always worth it! We get some serious storms as well in this heat and humidity. Never seems to cool things down though! Wow you are ahead of the game on school supplies. Your son is growing up!

Send your rain to Iowa! We really need it. The air has been horrendously humid, but no precip (well, not much) in a long time.

Yes, it’s hard to come back from vacation! Especially since you had such a busy week. The high school kids here are also starting band camp (my daughter is only going into eighth grade though- one more year!) And, the high school supplies always annoy me. The school year starts and THEN they tell them what they need, which means I’m running out to Target on a school/work night, trying to get supplies for the next day. I liked it better in elementary school when we just got a list in advance!
Nice job on your workouts in spite of everything (send some of your rain down here- we need it!)

We had a couple of horrible thunderstorms complete with hail and high winds as well. Ugh. Hope A is having a blast at band camp. Ours starts next week!
Darlene says
We really need rain. Had a little yesterday. Not enough. But it did change my plans.
It’s hard to reset after vacation.
You’re always doing such fun things.

Sorry that the weather was rainy and crappy last week 🙁 Hopefully you won’t have too many storms this week.
I love the design of that bookstore – it looks so cool, and I love that it’s a female owned shop!

I feel you on returning to a schedule–actually real life–after a vacation. I was only gone for 4 days, but we packed so much in and had so much fun that it was hard to come home. Trying to keep some of that good juju flowing.
Love that little bookstore! It’s so cute.

Sounds like you jumped right back into a busy life after vacation!
My kids would never have let me buy their school supplies—they were very specific about what they wanted.
You are logging some solid runs despite the weather — nice!
Jessie says
Oh, those storms trying to make things tough! Sounds like you still managed to have a full week of fitness- and fun! Love the pug bath pic 🙂
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Even though it sounds like it was a crappy week for running weather-wise, you got it done! Good job!
How cute is a soggy wet pug?! Love!
