Welcome to August and our latest coffee date. We are bulldozing through this year and a lot is going on. Let’s get started.
After reading here, head on over to visit Coco and Deborah, our awesome link-up hosts.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That I am drinking an iced Hot Aussie. I always think that sounds hilarious when I order it, but it’s delicious, with homemade vanilla and cream. Plus, it’s a local shop and that makes my heart happy.

That I launched my new website, First Coast Favorites! This is my way of sharing all the adventures I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy, apart from running. Any and all support is of course, appreciated! Even though I cover things local to Northeast Florida, that doesn’t mean you can’t find similar date ideas in your neck of the woods!

Over coffee, I would tell you…
That school starts next week. I’m going to be the mom of a student in high school. So far, Ive been doing ok with this news, but holy moly. What is happening? Through marching band, he is already familiar with the school and some of the staff, but on Monday he went in for the student-led tour, Wednesday he got a preview of his schedule, and today, he went in to walk that schedule and choose his locker. Next week, he meets the teachers, and then it all begins. We are so proud of him and all the hard work he has put in so far.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That in keeping with the new school year, I got myself elected to the board for the Arts Boosters. I will take a break from PTSO and focus on the resources that will most affect A. I’m excited for the change and also to be part of something new: A’s school is only a few years old, so all the protocols and processes are in process. It’s cool to see it develop.
Over coffee, I would tell you…
That I’ve been pretty down and not in the mood to create. I’ve had a stack of art supplies sitting here, just waiting for me to put them to use. Lucky for me, I got one order, so I felt motivated to churn out some more, and now I have some fun school spirit cups and totes to sell. I’m working on some polymer earrings as well. It feels good to be making things again.
What would you share over coffee? Do you enjoy crafting and creating?

wow, school starts early for you all! I have not heard of an iced Aussie but I pretty much stick to. a basic coffee over here. I am trying to get into iced coffee though. Congrats on the new site-I am not sure I could manage 2 websites and all the socials!
runswithpugs says
We are actually about a week later than usual. It’s ok though.
I have the two sites, and I’m also consulting on a third, and I just built a basic site for the boosters. II love being busy.

I do enjoy crafting but I’ve gotten away from it with running. I used to cross stich, then quilt, knit… Running takes so much time and thought…lol
That coffee does sound good!!!! Yesterday I tried a new Starbucks iced something and it was delish.
Good luck all your new responsibilities.
runswithpugs says
I love cross stitch, but the pugs love eating the floss and my fabric, so …
I love the Kookaburra’s coffee. So yummy.
Jenny says
Marching band is the best way to start high school! Your son will already have a group of friends and lots of activities lined up before school even starts. You’re in for a fun time.
In my mind, I like crafting but in reality I’m just not good at it. I’m definitely envious of people who can be creative and make things that actually look good. Glad you’re getting back into it- I’ll bet that makes you feel great.
runswithpugs says
It’s been a great experience thus far. The band looks amazing (we’ve seen the preview) and he is in such a great mindset. He is happy with his schedule, and already started volunteering through the school. Now if he can just keep his grades up, we will be in business.

Wow! Back in the day we showed up on the first day of HS & were assigned lockers — plus we had to find our way around!
I want to get back to creating, too, but I dabble here & there & then sputter out.
Congrats on your new Website! I hope it’s wildly successful!
runswithpugs says
They definitely do a lot to make the students feel welcome. This is only the school’s second year, too, so it’s still unfamiliar to so many.
I hope it’s wildly successful too. Summer is hard, but I am focused on the slow build.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m an art geek so I love all things creative. That said, it’s been awhile since I’ve done anything with those skills, LOL My free time is really limited with having a full time job away from my house., and I already spend too much time on social media….
runswithpugs says
It’s hard when you’re not in the house. My schedule is flexible, so if I want to take a break and whip something up, it’s not hard to do.

Congrats on your new website!!! I hope it’s a success for you.
I feel you on your melancholy about your son getting older. It’s so fun to see them find their own thing but it is hard to let go….
runswithpugs says
Thank you!
It’s just … strange. I love that he has so many cool things going on for him. I was not given much freedom when I was his age, so it’s very jarring in some ways to let him go off and have this whole independent life. It goes against a lot of what I know, but I’m proud of him.
Coco says
Congrats on your new site! I know you have a lot to contribute about local activities!
Wow, school starts early there. We are still mostly an “after Labor Day” schedule up here. It’s great the school has so many transitional activities. I bet he will ease right in — but be exhausted! Does he have a good lunch schedule? I know that’s a big deal around here with some kids having “lunch” at 10 am.
runswithpugs says
I think we have to start early to get out before summer really gets going.
Freshman have first lunch, so he will eat around 11:20, I think. High school starts at 9:20 so the lunches are all normal time. Middle school at 7;30 meant some kind were eating lunch at 10:30.
Renée says
I can think of a few “Hot Aussies” I wouldn’t mind drinking hahahaha!
Congrats on your new website!! I’ll have a look and follow all the socials!
It’s incredible how fast the time goes with kids. A is going to do great in school and I can imagine how proud you and Mr PR are!
You do always amaze me at how involved you get with the school – I don’t think either one of my parents knew anything that was going on when I was in school. Occasionally we’d have some event and they “might” have made it but most of the time… nope.
I think it’s normal to feel down sometimes or creatively blocked especially when you have a lot going on. A going to high school is a big deal. Add that to all the other things you do… it makes sense to have a little dip.
runswithpugs says
LOL! And thank you!
My mom was pretty involved, but things were different then. Our teachers are so unsupported and so many programs are under financed. Since I DO have the time, I think it’s important to help them get the things they need so that our kids can have the best experience. Even for marching band, parents have to pay a “fair share” AND do fundraising on top of that to pay for the music, costumes, choreography, staff, and transportation. It’s sad.

Happy crafting! I used to love doing that but have mostly lost my passion in those types for things.
runswithpugs says
Thank you! I’m excited by it’s bittersweet.
I really need art in my life It makes me a better person.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Hot Aussie! Haha, that made me laugh!! Good luck to your son. School already? Didn’t he just finish school not too long ago? Time sure goes by fast. Good luck to him.
