week 88: starting september

September 4, 2022      15 Comments

This photo is a bit of wish: we don’t really get too many leaves changing color here. Fall and September are beautiful times of year in places other than Florida. We are going to push through as best we can.

Sunday

  • Cardio: 3.96 miles, walking

I got myself up and out for my walk.

And the rest of the day was just quiet. We went out for lunch, ran a few errands, and watched tv together. It was nice to decompress a little.

Monday

  • Cardio: 4.85 miles, running + walking

Not a lot of miles but I felt ok during this run. I think this was the last morning I actually got up early to move this week.

Tuesday

  • Cardio: 3.68 miles, walking

This was a fake it till we make it day. l don’t know why I’m so tired. It has to be the storms in the air, or the moon.

Wednesday

  • Cardio: 5.91 miles, running + walking
  • Strength: Should circuit (3×15 shoulder presses, 3×15 neutral curls, 3×15 upright rows, 3×15 front raises, 3×15 side raises, 3×15 tricep kickbacks, 3×15 shoulder taps)

This run felt promising. I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t awful.

Of course, Starbucks launched their Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I celebrated with … a Salted Caramel Cold Brew. The real MVP of the season.

Thursday

  • Cardio: 4.25 miles, walking
  • Strength: Should circuit (3×15 shoulder presses, 3×15 neutral curls, 3×15 upright rows, 3×15 front raises, 3×15 side raises, 3×15 tricep kickbacks, 3×15 shoulder taps)

Some days, it’s just too hot for this nonsense. Ok. Like every day.

I spent the day working on quite a few different projects. Sometimes, you just have to sit down and gut it out.

Friday

  • Cardio: 5.92 miles. walking
  • Strength: Should circuit (3×15 shoulder presses, 3×15 neutral curls, 3×15 upright rows, 3×15 front raises, 3×15 side raises, 3×15 tricep kickbacks, 3×15 shoulder taps)

Friday was the most giant fail. In fact, the only good thing about my workout was getting to spend time with J again. Yay!

A had an away game (the band travels), so Mr PugRunner and I made plans for an art night. There was a free Friday night event at one of the art museums in Jacksonville.

And after dinner, we attended an art show in a local hotel that features our high school’s art students! So cool, and the hotel gives it the full treatment with refreshments and sparkling cider. So awesome for our talented young creators!

Saturday

  • Cardio: 3.57 miles, walking
  • Strength: Bicep circuit (on knees 3×15 supinating curls, 3×15 regular curls, 3×15 hammer curls, 3×15 waiter curls). 45 dead bugs

I had an awful night’s sleep, and had no problem skipping my alarm in the morning. I still walked and still did some strength moves, despite motivation being low.

I stayed home the rest of the day, while the boys drove down to New Smyrna for a beach day and attempt to watch the launch of the Artemis 1. This is the second time Mr PugRunner has driven down to see it, and he second time it was scrubbed. They had a great day all the same.

Goal-getting + Thoughts

It was a quiet week, which is just fine by me. II did managed to start adding some weights and strength back into my daily fitness routine. You all know it’s not my fave, but I am hoping it helps boost me back into the land of the motivated.

We shall see.

I’d love an art night. My hubby wouldn’t go for it.

Again you had another full week.

Only exciting thing here is that I survived my half yesterday. I wasn’t sure I would around mile 7. Lol.

Sorry it’s been a struggle lately with your workouts. Back to school time really is a lot of activity and sometimes it’s hard to keep up with all of it! What fun to see your marching band and son enjoying it! They have great uniforms! I get they also get a bit toasty in them. I have made a commitment to go to all of the away games that we can this year since it’s our final year. It’s a bit of a bummer since the band plays to the home side, and not the visiting side! So, I guess we’ll have to relocate to properly watch the band at half time.

LOL, I’ll have to try a salted caramel cold brew. I’m not ready for pumpkin spice now.

You may have been lagging in motivation, but you still got it done! That’s a real accomplishment.

Well done for adding your weights and strength back in, something I’m aiming at, too. Well, this weekend I lugged around and supported a toilet cistern as we tried to mend a leak (plumber is coming tomorrow …) and practised pushing my friend in her wheelchair so I can support her at an appointment, so I’ve done some unofficial training but would like to get back into it so it doesn’t hurt so much when I do stuff like this!

Does everywhere just stay green, then, as it’s so warm all year? That had never struck me.

I love how excited you get for all things pumpkin. I am not quite there yet with it still so hot. You had a pretty solid week of movement even if you did not feel your best

Yes… here in Florida we just have to pretend it’s fall, right? I think September is actually our hottest month. I like how you’re embracing it with the cold brew and the pumpkins though!
Yes, I noticed you got some strength going! It’s not my favorite thing either, but it feels good to get it done.
That’s cool that A’s band travels! Our band doesn’t usually- I think they might go to one away game a year.

Great job with the daily movement! I know it’s not always easy to find the motivation, but it usually feels so good once things get started. I’m glad to see you’re doing more strength work!

Hopefully motivation will come with fall! I have to imagine the heat gets to be a little draining, especially as a runner, but you were active and did a ton of walking!

Sounds like some fun art events 🙂

We don’t get the continued heat like you do, but yeah, even our heat wears on me. Sometimes a runner just wants to run! As much as I’m not loving our early taste of fall, I had a really nice long trail run yesterday. It reminded me of what running feels like, lol.

    Hang in there!

It’s SO hard to be motivated when it’s so hot. I definitely find right now I need more rest than normal. Give your body what it needs today or you’ll pay for it down the road.

Just keep moving forward & don’t beat yourself up!

Although it was still rather warm here, I was excited to see that Starbucks launched their Fall menu. I’ve never had the Salted Caramel Cold Brew but it sounds delicious! Today I tried the Pumpkin Cold Brew for the first time and loved it!

The humidity here has been relentless this Summer which definitely makes it hard to be motivated for outdoor runs. Hopefully the Fall will bring us better weather.

Yay for a quieter week. I’m looking forward to one of those here this week. Just one Field Hockey game to attend…my crazy in-laws will be there so there’s that. Sorry about the heat. It definitely makes running very difficult. I’ve not partaken of any of Starbucks seasonal drinks yet, although Thing 2 did bring me a pumpkin scone to try.

It sounds like you still had a busy week. And yeah, that heat would wear on me, too! The garden from the art show trip is beautiful!

Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run.

I worked through some cardio under the blue skies and in the fresh air and then came home to @runsmartofficial’s base building boot camp.

There was A LOT of focus on balance and feet and ankles, as well as ground work in the form of different planks and push-ups.

The movements were small but effective and my legs are certainly burning! It’s going to get harder as we go, but I’m excited to spend more time on my stability and form, to see if it makes me stronger and more efficient over time.
