Have you been having a hard time trying to prioritize your workouts? I have. Things have been busy, and when the going gets tough, the tough have less time for fitness. Ugh. What’s an athlete to do?
Make A Plan
Failure to plan is planning to fail, right? So let’s make a plan. It’s importent to know what you need to accomplish, and lay it out for yourself.
Stick To That Plan
Once your plan is in place, it’s crucial to stick to that plan. Yes, even on the days when it’s hard. Really, this up to you. It can absolutely be hard but that’s the point of making the plan: to have it be less hard.
Designate The Time
Maybe it’s morning. Maybe it’s night. But setting aside an ample amount of time for your workout is critical to your success. Carve out the minutes or hours you need and make it happen.
Remove The Obstacles
Make things easy for yourself. Identify your obstacles and remove them. Put out your gear in advance. Mute your phone to give yourself the space to work out. The more you prepare, the more successful you will be at prioritizing your workouts.
Remember Your Why
There are few greater motivators than remembering your why. We all have different reasons for pushing forward, and the more we remember that, the easier it can be to put your workouts in the forefront.

I needed to hear all of these points as I’ve NOT been prioritising workouts recently, and feeling crummy for it! One of my favourite sayings is, You don’t have to be motivated, you have to be disciplined. This talks to your second point of sticking to the plan even when you don’t feel like it!

having a set schedule of run. days and strength days really works for me and keeps me on track

Scheduling – either with a trainer/friend really helps me. If someone is expecting me, I’m there. Also, blocking out the time on my schedule so meetings don’t get on my calendar instead.

I have to.
I post my runs on the blog and I make sure I run 4x each week (one being a long one)

I feel seen. I am so all over the place with workouts because I literally have no plan anymore. And I agree with all of these things, I even used to DO all of these things. but the one thing that is getting in my way (besides ME) is the lack of sleep. Once I’m done with the marathon and my trip back to the US, I am really going to work on a great plan – it needs to be in place because I start my new job on the 1st of November! I have to work around commuting again (2x a week) so it will be even MORE important to get things done on the days that I plan to do them!

I have to have a plan and schedule most of my workouts for first thing in the morning or I run the risk of them not happening.
