Y’all. This “Bandtober” businesses is serious. So serious. I could honestly sleep for a week. Let’s get into it.
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.39 miles
Hooray for Sunday! We4a re having some really beautiful weather.
Then i met with my fellow St. A Moms to pack lunch bags for the shelter in St. Augustine after the storm. It was wonderful to do something for the community. We packed 55 lunches and sent them in with water and extras snacks and goodies.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.09 miles, running + walking
This was a great Monday. The run felt pretty fantastic and that was a win.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.05 miles
There was no time for slacking. I was up way before dawn to get my day started.
A had a dentist appointment, so that was a lot of rushing before school. But we got it done.
I was super happy to have a nail appointment. I love these.
Aside from the the nails, it was a long day of work, capped off by a meeting. I was very happy to turn in that night.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.67 miles, running + walking
Another good run. The humidity is pretty much gone these days, and I love it.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3.12 miles, walking
I am struggling getting my walks any longer this week. Sleep is just more important, I guess.
After my shower, I went to my Poll Worker Training class for the General Election. With one election under my belt, this was just a refresher session. I am now signed up for two days of early election, and the general. I can’t wait.
I ended the day with another long meeting. Blah.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.66 miles, running + walking
I didn’t go quite as far as I would have liked, but I was busy, so that was ok.
I tried very hard to get everything done before mid afternoon. The weekend was going to be absolutely madness.
I volunteered to serve dinner to the band, and then Mr PugRunner and I went to the away game. It was a pink out and we did our best to represent.
Did we win the game? Sure did! But I was there for the post-game show. It was the first time our band was able to perform their whole show, in uniform, on the field. They were amazing.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.58 miles, walking
And here we go. I had an early morning, so I slept as long as I could, and then got in a nice walk.
My first order of business was to get to the school to serve brunch to the band. They had pancakes, bacon, and fruit before they loaded buses to their competition.
As soon as clean up was complete, Mr PugRunner and I picked up my parents and headed to the event. We were there in plenty of time to see the entire division compete. Our band was beyond amazing and did such a great job.
Prelims ended and the first round of awards took place. Our band won second in their division, as well as Superior awards for Drum Major, Percussion, Color Guard and Visual Effect. Incredible! I think it’s important to point out that this was school’s first competition EVER. There was a band last year for the inaugural year, but it didn’t compete.
The finals were incredible, with eight bands vying for number One. We took 6th overall (out of 21 bands) and I think that’s outstanding. Can’t wait for next week!
And why did no one tell me how intense and exhausting competitions are? I feel like I ran a marathon!
Goal-getting + Thoughts
I am dozing off as I write this. While we’ve always been busy, this season is taking things to the next level. I’m grateful for the work, and I love how much my kiddo loves his activities and that I can be a part, but I’m ready for a nap!
This will be another big week, with a little racecation, and some other fun things. Stay tuned!
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training?
Jenny says
Yes, sometimes I’m amazed at how much the parents are expected to do- but I guess it’s like that with a lot of extracurriculars- my friends who have kids on sports teams say it’s madness as well. This week the eighth graders in my daughter’s band are combining with the high school band for the football game- I’m looking forward to that!
So your humidity has dropped? Ours was lower for a few days after Ian, but now it’s back up there, ugh. We’ve probably got a few more weeks before we feel a real change (SIGH!)
Great job getting out there every single morning with the busy schedule you have!
runswithpugs says
We had the 8th graders out a few weeks ago and they loved it!
Yes! The humidity hasn’t been higher than like 70%! Even on 80 degree days, I can wear jeans without sweating. Today was foggy, so it might be different.
Coco says
OMG, your nails are amazing! How long will they last? Sometimes I can keep mine looking good for 1 + weeks.
Packing lunches for a shelter is a great volunteer activity. I’m going to do something similar for a long-term shelter in a few weeks, but there must be more ongoing need.
Does Bandtober last all month? I hope the kids appreciate — or at least look back and appreciate it some day. 😉

Aren’t they cute? They usually last four weeks. They are my natural nails, and last time I left them a little long. She put extensions on the three broken ones and said we can switch to a hard gel if I beat them up this badly again. Not my intention, but we will see.
Bandtober is forever LOL. They compete 10/8, 10/15, 10/23, football game on 10/27, break on 10/28, game on 11/4, compete 11/5, host our home show on 11/12, and compete on 11/19. And then I’m done. For this year.
Deborah Brooks says
wow you sure did have a busy week!b Hope you get that extra sleep. Love the fun nails
runswithpugs says
No sleep ever! Ugh. I am tired.
Kimberly Hatting says
I remember the days of marching band competitions! Our son stayed in band through high school, so we shuffled around a lot getting to the shows, while getting the daughters to their weekend activities as well. High school is a busy time!
runswithpugs says
It’s exhausting! And I only have one child! HoCo is in two weeks and I’m already getting things set up for that!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Good job getting your runs and walks in last week, and yay for lower humidity!
I remember how crazy busy we were with our sons when they were in travel sports and then high school sports. It was exhausting, but I wouldn’t have traded a minute of it for anything.

So very exciting for your band! Congrats to them! Their uniforms do look really nice. We don’t have color guard people (is that what they are called? flag people??) but I wish we did. I’m sad our football season will be ending soon. I’m trying to soak it all in!
Cari says
Bandtober. I love it.
Your humidity was all in Orlando. Meanie :p
So glad you had a good week, an I love the nails
Darlene Cardillo says
Love those nails.
Glad to hear you’re having better weather.
Parenting does take up so much time.

I continued to be impressed at how much you do for your community and A’s school. It seems like there’s something to do every day of the week!
Marcia says
I’m tired just reading this! Haha! Congrats to A on all the band accomplishments. It is an intense season for sure. We have two more home football games, our band does not attend away games. We’re in the part of the season where it gets SOOOO cold to be standing out there for hours. I’m going to miss this weekend’s game because I’ll be in Amelia Island!
Stacie Seidman says
Wow! That’s amazing for the band, they’re killing it their first year!! I didn’t know there were marching band competitions! My school was really small. We didn’t even have our own football team. Kids who wanted to play had to try out for a neighboring town. We did have a marching band, but they solely performed at town parades…. Lol! Anyway, that’s so awesome. What a great experience for A!
Jessie says
How wonderful that you packed lunches for the shelter, what a kind way to contribute. And how cool that you’re continuing with the poll volunteering!
Gees- busy busy week!
Love the nails!

I know I’m way late but I’m tired reading this & I thought I was busy this week, LOL!
Nice job getting all that done. Looking forward to hearing about Amelia Island!

It’s ok! Sometimes I can’t get to blog comments until the end of the week! We all do what we can!
