Now that I’m home from last weekend’s racecation an entire week, I can look back and share why it was, in fact, the best.
I Was Able To Get Away From It All
Sometimes, you really do just need to get away from everything. Amelia Island is a perfect place to do that. It’s close enough to be a quick trip, but also so secluded and quiet enough to feel like you are really far away.
I Got Myself Out Amongst People
Socializing is something with which I struggle. Going on this racecation helped me be around others and come out of my shell a bit. It’s an important thing to do (I’m so excellent at hermiting), and gave me a boost in a less introverted direction.
I Got To Spend Time With This Beautiful Friend
Meghan and I don’t get to see each other nearly enough. A weekend with her was a burst of sunshine. I can’t wait for the next one.
We Had So Much Yummy Food And Drink
Oh, yes we did. I had the best iced coffee and the best brunch while away. I would absolutely drive the hour and fifteen minutes for another go at this chicken and waffles.
I Was Reminded How Much I Like Races
Sometimes, you just need a fabulous race to remind you how much you love and missed it. This was it for me. And as a result, I’ve signed up for my next race. Yay! Do I have my groove back? I’ll say yes!

That’s funny because I wouldn’t have thought you struggle with socializing- it always looks like you’re out and about doing interesting things with people! Just goes to show- social media can be deceiving. Glad you enjoyed this race-cation and are excited about racing again. It sounds like it was perfect.

I can get out, but my natural preference is home in complete silence. I’m very awkward and while I love new experiences, it’s hard for me to be around people I don’t know.

I agree with race-cation. Read my post today!!
I also agree with Jenny… you seem very social.
But I get it. I’m an introvert and people say how if that possible, you have friends and are always doing things… I guess I’m an extroverted introvert.

I’m kind of the same. I can go out and participate but it’s not my natural state. I am very uncomfortable introducing myself and striking up conversation, and I get drained from too much interaction. I’m the person who finds the pets at the party and is quite happy in a corner with the dogs LOL.

Race vacation weekends with friends are always the best for all the reasons you mentioned. You look really happy!

I was soooo happy.

Those are five great things, especially after the past two and a half years we’ve had! I’m with Jenny, I would have never guessed that you’re an introvert and it’s tough for you to socialize.

I am terrible at peopling. I’m super awkward and while I can hang for a bit, it’s really hard for me.

This looks like a perfect get away!!

It was so needed.

I’m so glad you had a great weekend! Looks like a great spot for a race!

It’s really quite fabulous.

This sounds great! I’m glad you had an awesome time. I’ve never been to Amelia Island but am now putting it on my “list”. What do you suggest doing here when not going for a race? Are there any fabulous resorts you would recommend?
runswithpugs says
Oh there is a ton to do. The beach. The lighthouse. Visit/hike Fort Clinch (and go to the beach there). There is an adorable historic downtown with lots of great restaurants and bars. Kayak. Ride horses. Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings. There are some smaller hotels but resort-wise they have the Ritz and the Omni. I would say both of those are pretty fabulous.
