week 97: the end of the run streak

November 6, 2022      11 Comments

You read that correctly. The run streak ended this week. I’m bummed: I almost made it to 500 days, but sometimes, it just doesn’t make sense to push. I regret nothing. Keep reading to get the full details.

Sunday

  • Cardio: 3.61 miles, walking
  • Planksgiving Day 5: :60 front plank, :60 side plank (each side), :60 bridge plank, squats (3×10)

Did we have a lot of fun on Saturday night? Oh, yeah.

But we still had things to do. I got up and worked my way through my walk and planks.

A carved our pumpkin, too. Nothing like last minute!

Monday

  • Cardio: 5.21 miles, running + walking
  • Planksgiving Day 6: :60 front plank, :60 side plank (each side), :60 bridge plank, speedskaters (30)

Happy Halloween! The humidity was back, but we had a solid run anyway.

I planked. Yay.

And I voted.

A didn’t have work because it was Halloween so he came home for a change. The evening was crazy. We had friends come to trick or treat. A and his buddy went out in “costumes” they “created” from the closet. It was chaotic and fabulous all at once.

Tuesday

  • Planksgiving Day 7: :60 front plank, :60 side plank (each side), :60 bridge plank, RDLs (3×10)

No pictures. Nothing. I was working the polls from 7AM to 6:30PM. It is a long, intense day. We had almost 500 voters pass through, which was a lot.

When I left, I had to run a Scouts committee meeting, so I was delirious when I got home.

Wednesday

  • Planksgiving Day 8: :60 front plank, :60 side plank (each side), :60 bridge plank, trunk rotations (15 each side)

Day 2 of work. I really thought I could get up super early and get in some miles, but I ached everywhere. I decided I would plank and get some rest.

Thursday

  • Cardio: 3.82 miles, walking
  • Planksgiving Day 9: :60 front plank, :60 side plank (each side), :60 bridge plank, weighted march (30)

Oh, was I grateful to walk! And plank.

This was the laziest of days. I was exhausted, and we had plans to celebrate our 16th anniversary. Things went a little sideways when A called to ask for a pickup – apparently, the flu and a stomach bug are going around and a good chunk of the band was out.

We just pivoted and stayed closer to home.

We tried a new-to-us wine bar and Italian restaurant, and both were amazing.

Friday

  • Cardio: 5.39 miles, running + walking
  • Planksgiving Day 10: :60 front plank, :60 side plank (each side), :60 bridge plank, runner’s lunges (3×10)

Happy 16 years to us!

I had to run by myself.

And this happened. Any suggestions for weaning off the GPS watch in favor of the Apple watch?

Let’s throw in some planks.

And then we had tacos for lunch.

In the afternoon, I headed to the school to help serve dinner to the band and the seniors and their parents for Senior Night.

I had to leave the game for a friend’s emergency (everything is ok), but was back in time to catch the halftime show. There were still some holes due to illness, but they looked and sounded great.

Saturday

  • Cardio: 4.02 mile, walking
  • Planksgiving Day 11: :60 front plank, :60 side plank (each side), :60 bridge plank, squats (3×10)

And we are back to the weekend.

We hung out at home while A had a practice block and prepped to head to his MPA competition. We followed over to watch before the show.

He’s in the middle. They did great, in spite of injuries and illnesses. What a season!

Goal-getting + Thoughts

It is November. Can you believe it? I am in awe.

It’s going to be a busy end of year, but I am hoping for lots of festive and fun activities.

You are so busy! No worries about the run streak ending. Maybe now you’ll have less pressure to get that mile in every day? I’m so glad to hear that a lot of people voted. I hope it’s a positive thing…

I’m never ready for the holidays, lol. I better get on it!

Geez, what a week! I’m amazed at all you accomplish. Congrats on 16 years!

Can’t help with the Apple Watch. Our holidays tend to be pretty chill.

I have not had time to give the holidays a thought. I think they will be low key.

Sorry about the streak… Almost 500 is amazing. I don’t keep track but I do try to run or walk everyday… if possible. Often stuff gets in the way.

    Happy Anniversary!

    I voted early too.

I voted early as well and our polling place was busy even mid-week! I think Tuesday will be nuts. Congrats on the run streak. It’s hard to let it go I’m sure, but I’ll bet it was the right call too.

I just got my winter break vacation approved, so I’ve been planning a family ski trip! Not sure how many more years of that we have, so we gotta do it. I am looking forward to it. Happy Anniversary! Your voting day sounds exhausting especially with that meeting afterwards.
We actually missed the very last football game because of the marathon. They made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs, but lost. It was an emotional end for everyone and my son took it hard. I was bummed we missed it. Saying goodbye to such a great activity is hard! I’m glad A has enjoyed playing in your marching band!

Busy week for ou! I had to let the running slide this week (as a comparison to your streak ending), but neither my heart or mind weren’t feeling it. Also, and most importantly, my body needed the time out of the running shoes, so I have zero guilt, remorse or FOMO. Onward!!

I know I’ve said it before but THANK YOU for all the election work you are doing. I am sure it is exhausting. I think you made the right decision letting yourself get a bit more rest.

Yay to a strong finish to band season. Do they do anything in the spring or not until fall again?

Another busy week for you! I’m sure that ending the run streak was hard, but it definitely sounds like you made the right decision.

Thank you for all of the election work that you are doing. It’s so important – especially in Florida!

Let’s talk about balance. Balance is an area wh Let’s talk about balance.

Balance is an area where I sometimes struggle, physically and emotionally. It can be a challenge to fit in all the things I want and all the things I need. I don’t always love doing the mundane or tedious tasks that ultimately lead to the foundations of the things I am more passionate about.

I am taking a little more time to build on the basics, and find my balance. It’s going to lead to a healthier and happier me.

How do you find your balance? Do you struggle with the basics?

Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run.

I worked through some cardio under the blue skies and in the fresh air and then came home to @runsmartofficial’s base building boot camp.

There was A LOT of focus on balance and feet and ankles, as well as ground work in the form of different planks and push-ups.

The movements were small but effective and my legs are certainly burning! It’s going to get harder as we go, but I’m excited to spend more time on my stability and form, to see if it makes me stronger and more efficient over time.

What was on your workout calendar today?

This morning, I started on a new training plan wit This morning, I started on a new training plan with @runsmartofficial. I have a goal race in May, so I am going to see if I can make some improvements along the way.

I can admit that I am built more for distance than speed, but I am taking a crack and improving my pace over the next ten weeks. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻!

Anyone else starting a new training plan and cycle?

Congratulations to the @staugalligatorfarm for another fantastic event. It was a beautiful morning, with lots of enthusiastic runners and walkers, and we were so happy to be there.

A portion of proceeds went to benefit Orianne Center for Indigo Snake Conservation (OCIC) and AZA Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE), partnering to celebrate Eastern indigo snakes, which makes the race even more important.
