Summer is coming, and the full force of the Florida heat and humidity is coming with it. Ugh. I miss the cooler days.
Sunday
- Cardio: 5 miles, hiking
A is training for a high adventure camp, so we went to do a 5 mile hike at a state forest. It was a good session.
Monday
- Cardio: 5 miles, running + 3.75 miles, walking
J was only able to walk, so I got up extra early for my running miles.
We had a day off for President’s Day, so I took A to REI to shop for a new hiking bag. He only planned to look, but of course, he found one he loved, and it was on sale. Of course, we ordered it. He also got tons of great tips about his upcoming trip.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 1 miles walking + 3.55 miles, walking
- Strength: Upper Body Day (bridge chest press, kneeling SA arnold press, tricep overhead extension, close grip dumbbell pushup – @KimRunsTheMitten)
I decided it was time to get back to the beach and bridge. It wasn’t a run day, but I ran a mile in the sand, anyway.
Coming home to do strength was kind of a bummer. But it his what it is.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 7.1 miles, running + .75 miles, walking
- Strength: Core Day (single arm overhead march, pull throughs, extension crunch – @kimrunsthemitten)
This was a great run.
I was tired, but did all my strength anyway.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3.73 miles, walking, 2.5 miles, hiking
- Strength: Leg/Core/Glutes Day (crab walks, side to side sumo back squats, alternating reverse lunges, b stance glute bride, banded dead bugs – @KimRunsTheMitten)
I started the day with a solid walk.
And then I got in some strength. Those banded dead bugs were brutal.
I ran some errands and picked up my race packet for Saturday. It was also a great time to stock up on some HoneyStinger waffles! (affiliate link).
The day closed with a hike. A needed to finish his cooking merit badge, and we wanted to keep his hiking momentum going.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.16 miles, running and walking
- Strength: Arm Day (dumbbell rows, stability dumbbell pullover, concentration curls, hanging dumbbell snatch – – @KimRunsTheMitten
- Goat Yoga: 50 minutes
Friday was a day. I started by meeting J for an easy morning.
Even though my muscles were sore, I did a quick upper body workout. No excuses.
Mr PugRunner and I went to a local market for some produce. It was all gorgeous, and very reasonably priced.
That evening was time for our makeup goat yoga session at the brewery, and it was amazing. Obviously, there was some yoga, but it was a lot more about the goats. I was ok with that. There were about 40 humans and 30 goats. They ran around, jumped on our backs, and generally behaved adorably.
Before bed, I put out my flat runner! It’s been a while.
Saturday
Cardio: Ortega River Run 5 Miler, running
I was a little out of sorts for this race. It was brand new to me, a previously unraced distance, and a course I have never tried. So, I got up early (because parking) and tried to make something happen.
With an 8:30 start time, it was miserably hot. I’ll give the full recap later this week!
The boys went fishing while I ran, and then they went to pick up A’s new hiking backpack for Philmont. He was so excited to get it. And then he put in a few hours of volunteering for his Troop at a local festival.
After all that, I’m ready for bed.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
And that’s it. I’m super tired and emotionally drained this week. We’ve got a big ten mile hike tomorrow, and it’s only going to get more intense from there. While I don’t always love slogging through the woods (our trails aren’t as fun as others), it’s helping me stay in shape and I’m happy to support A.
This week, we’ve got two band concerts, more runs, a birthday dinner for a friend, and… the Gate River Run 15K! Let’s do this!
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Ever do goat yoga? Are you a hiker?
Wendy says
Looks like a nice week for you. Congrats on the race and yes, goat yoga looks like fun!
Enjoy that hike with your boy.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
That’s funny about Florida trails. I was unimpressed but still pretty.
An very active fitness week for you.
And a race is a race. Congrats.
You know you appreciate them more when you can run them.
Deborah Brooks says
It is nice to see you keeping up with your strength workouts! They are going to pay off for you. Congrats on your race and have a great week ahead
Coco says
How great to be hiking with your son! And then if he cooks for you after, that’s even better. 😉
Looking forward to your race recap.
Michelle says
Love all of the hiking with A! And great job keeping up with your strength training.
You had a great week – congrats on your race!
Jenny says
Ooh, I’m looking forward to the race recap. Yes, 8:30 is a late start time for Florida, ugh. But I love all the hiking- I want to see your trails! Florida trails are pretty in their own way.
Great job getting all the strength in- I know, I never want to do it either but then I feel amazing when it’s done.
Debbie says
How fun to run a new race at a new-to-you distance and get an automatic PR!
I still have to do goat yoga!
runswithpugs says
You would love it!
Kimberly Hatting says
Great job keeping consistent with everything, especially the new strength program! All that hiking sounds fun. Our son still talks about Plilmont; it was a great adventure!
runswithpugs says
I hope he has the best time!
Liz Dexter says
Goodness, lots of busy time. Well done on committing to the strength programme and going for it. I have some glute/ham strength stuff to do from my physio and doing some walking now, running has gone for the time being over here but I will be back (I think).
runswithpugs says
I do hope to see you back! I loved following your running!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Make some time for rest, too! Not easy but necessary.
It is definitely too early for Summer. Even in FL! I’d take the heat, but not the humidity.
Good luck with next week’s 15k!

My body gave out on me this week, so yes. Rest is here. Boo.
Susanne says
Really good work this week! And goat yoga and a race on top of that! I hope you can take some time to at least rest your mind. I love how you keep up your strength training, it’s so important!
I know it doesn’t help, but I really envy everyone who has some warm weather. I’m so over cold temps and freezing winds. Wish I could get some of the Florida heat, warm weather feels like a dream right now.
I’ve never heard of goat yoga before but it looks like fun!
I love a good hike but although some of our walking routes probably could be considered hiking, I haven’t really gone hiking for a long time. I hope to do it this summer and go back to a place where we went in 2021, before any of us were particularly fit.
runswithpugs says
With a starting temp of 71F at tomorrow’s race, you can have it. With the humidity and sun, it’s brutal. I’m not excited.
Marcia says
Glad you finally got your goat yoga session in. They are adorable. Way to stay consistent on the strength work. It will pay off! Enjoy the hike with A! Hope it’s not too horribly hot.
runswithpugs says
Next up? Alpaca yoga!
Jessie says
Busy busy! Way to stick with your strength training even when you don’t want to I’m impressed! And some solid runs, even in that Florida heat.
Glad you had fun at the race!
runswithpugs says
I did zero strength this week, because I felt awful. That’s going to bite me in the booty next week.
Melissa says
I’ve never done goat yoga!! I’ve heard of it and it looks like fun but also distracting 🙂 Great job on your runs this week and with the heat. I can’t imagine heat right now – it’s so cold here in the midwest! Summer feels like a long way away here. Nice job on your race.

Super distracting but so fun. I just signed up for alpaca yoga! Wheeee!
Summer is HERE with a vengeance. I’m not ready.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Goat yoga no, but I keep saying I will be signing up for beer yoga! Beer yoga is super popular around here, but I want to sign up last minute, and the spots are always taken. I fear commitment to taking a yoga class!!
runswithpugs says
I fully support beer yoga!
