Well, I am absolutely shocked that the year is one-quarter through. I just don’t understand how everything is just going so quickly.
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
I runfess…
That staycations are fantastic. I didn’t have any plans for Spring Break and took a few days to enjoy cool things around town. It was absolutely everything I needed, and a good reminder that sometimes, there are treasures and gems right in your proverbial backyard. And that sometimes, you just need a few days of friends, fun, food, and fancy drinks to recharge.
I runfess…
That I need to get back to the beach. There is just something about the salt air and sand that makes my heart lighter, and now that it’s warmer and the sand is a little more present after all that storms, I need to make it happen. I do have a 5K very near the beach this weekend, and I am going to take a moment to enjoy the Vitamin Sea.
I runfess…
That I am really enjoying my RunSmartOnline training plan. I am definitely seeing so many areas where I can improve my strength, fitness, and overall running abilities, and I like the tools they provide to address them. Am I finding myself sometimes unable to replicate some of the moves (birddogs in bear crawl pose, I’m looking at you), but we all need to start somewhere and I’m not giving up.
I runfess…
That I miss winter. we have had a few bursts of summer and the heat, sun, and humidity is just soul-crushing. Give me glove and long sleeve weather with a nice nip in the air. That’s what I love best.
I runfess…
That I have a new-to-me race on Saturday, and the logistics have me frazzled. It’s about an hour away, so I have no idea about parking or the people who will be running. I know it will be fun, and I’ll have a good time once I’m there, but I always get a little out of sorts when I don’t feel prepared.
Do you get a little edgy when you’re at a new-to-you race? What are you runfessing?

Yes, I get stressed out when I’m going somewhere new and am not sure about the parking and other logistics- but just remind yourself that it’s always worked out in the past, and like you said, everything will be fine when you get there. That’s one thing I miss about living in NYC- you don’t worry about those things, just get off the subway and you’re there.
Yes, I miss winter! What little we had of it, down here. After all the dryness, we’re finally getting some rain and oh yeah- I forgot how steamy it can get. Ugh. We’re in for a long stretch of heat and humidity.
And I agree the first quarter just flew by- usually January and February seem to go slowly for me, but not this year! I don’t know why but time is racing by and I don’t like it. Slow down, time!

I would love to be in a walking city or a city with public transportation. It’s so much easier.

I am a fan of a good staycation – there’s fun to be had playing tourist in your own backyard sometimes 🙂
Glad to hear that you’re enjoying the new training plan!
Race logistics always make me a little antsy – hope all goes smoothly and you have fun!

We have so many cool things to do and see here.

Glad you enjoyed the staycation! It’s spring break here now but my work goes on so it’s not that special, other than Thing 2 is around a tad more often. And I mean a tad.
Running the world marathon majors, I became quite accustomed to that “uncertain” feeling of making my way through foreign countries, finding the correct trains, flight connections, etc. Sometime it blew up in my face but mostly it was fine. Have fun at your race!

It’s all part of the experience! I’m decent at solo traveling, but parking gets me every time. I think it comes from learning to drive in Miami, where EVERYTHING had valet. I am talking grocery stores, doctors, offices…. I am so spoiled and believe I should never have to manage my own parking. It’s the only “fancy” trait about me.

I would love a staycation – that sounds so fun! It sounds like you made the most of your time off work.
Hope you have a great race!

It was fabulous!

I love a good staycation! I’m hoping to retire next year and I envision a permanent staycation!

Sounds perfect!

There are many gems in your own backyard if you just let yourself find them! 🙂

I am all about the backyard gems!

Yes there’s comfort in running the same races but a new race can be exciting.
Enjoy your staycation,.. I’ve never taken one… but I do haver tomorrow off. That’s a start.

I feel like NY is its own staycation! It’s really fun sometimes.

I actually like the “great unknown” when doing new-to-me races. Yes, the logistics are a little stressful, but it’s fun to go into an even with no preset expectations.

I am on Spring Break right now and am enjoying it. I am getting out of the house but am enjoying my time at home. I watch TV and read.
Logistics like that also stress me out. I hope it all worked out for you.
