So where are we at?
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.30 miles, walking
We didn’t stay at the graduation party too late, so it wasn’t terrible getting up on Sunday morning to walk.
We WERE lazy as heck the rest of the day because we had plans for our friend’s 50th birthday: a night out in Jacksonville! There was dinner and drinks on the roof with a beautiful view.
The formal part of the night got cut short when my friend’s shoe broke (!!!!), but we came home, changed into comfy clothes, and then went back to their house for games. At 11:30, I called it because I had a race in the morning, but it was a good night.
Monday
- Cardio: Florida Striders Memorial Day 5k
I’ve already shared the race report for the 10th anniversary of my first 5K here.
It was a good race. After I got home, I showered and rested, then we hosted our friends for some fish tacos and margaritas.
And then it was time for pajamas and fuzzy blankets and couch. Period.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.8 miles, walking
The fun never stops! Up and out for some miles.
We have been trying to get to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and today was finally the day. No spoilers, but I openly sobbed through about 75% of it. So there’s that.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.44 miles, running + 3.34 miles, walking
J was struggling a bit with her breathing this morning, so we just took it easy. No worries there. It’s hot outside.
Next up was a big meeting for a client who is applying for a grant. From there, I figured I would get some errands done, so I was out when Mr PugRunner called to say they were on their way to the DMV to get A’s learner’s permit. Timing worked out, so I met them there. We went out for a celebratory lunch after.
And then I went to a beer tapping. About a month ago, I attended a Yelp beer tasting, where we all got to vote on our favorite ingredients. Wednesday night was the day when the winning combination was unveiled. It was a pilsner, not too heavy and not too bitter. I liked it (although I prefer more of a citrus taste to my beer).
Thursday
Cardio: 3.17 miles, walking
Happy June and Happy First Day of (Run/Walk) Streaking!
We are off to a great start!
Then it was time for my first ever mammogram, which was fine.
And then I was kind of done for the day, with the exception of one more meeting. Night meetings are so rough for me, but you have to do what you have to do.
Friday
Cardio: 5.09 miles, running + 1.79 miles, walking
We got out and after it. Things went much better today than they did on Wednesday.
Did you know it was National Doughnut Day? I took myself out for breakfast. Currently, Parlor Doughnuts is my favorite. They are more like a cronut: the base is the same for most of their creations, but they can pretty much top and stuff them to order. For one, they are warm, light, and delicious. Second, since they can top the pastries on the fly, they don’t really run out. It’s nice that there’s no need to get there at opening for popular flavors.
Then this happened.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.42 miles, walking (Day 3 of #StreakingWithThe COOLKIDS)
- Strength: 20 minutes (3×12 Single Leg Bridge to Chest Press, 3×12 W Extensions + 3×6 Mountain Climber to Pushup, 3×12 Kneeling Halos + 3×10 Plank Stretches)
The guys left before the sun for A’s birthday adventure (a little delayed). He just wanted to go fishing with a couple of buddies, and today was the day. Finally, the weather was decent and the fish were biting.
In the meantime, I did my walk and a strength session.
I also replaced the shower rod, liners, and curtain in A’s bathroom (I tend to stay out of his spaces, and man, did that need replacing!), and did some work.
Mr PugRunner had originally suggested pizza at home, but then decided he wanted a date night, so we went out to a place I really enjoy.
Thoughts + Goals
This week, things feel like they are moving forward.
We have two family trips on the horizon. One of my besties is coming to visit next weekend. The marching schedule is out, with more travel and adventure. I have some fun things on the calendar, including an afternoon at the symphony and tickets to the immersive King Tut experience.
This is my happy place.
You may notice that I started strength again today. Again again. But that’s ok. One day turns into two turns into three, right? Small steps.
I did need a bit of recharging this week. There was a lot of being out and socializing, which wore me out pretty quickly. I need to balance that so it’s not so much all at once.
How was your week?
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
Stacie Seidman says
Oh wow, A is behind the wheel! I can’t believe it, where does the time go? (And wow, how old must I be, saying things like that…)
Sounds like a lovely week!
runswithpugs says
If you’re old, then so am I!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Sounds like you had a busy week and will have a busy summer.
Socializing is important… good for mental health as well as physical stuff.
Can’t wait to see what trips you have planned.
runswithpugs says
I know socializing is good, but I’ve had so much. I’m ready for my hermit era.
Deborah Brooks says
I did notice your strength training resumed! You will fin your rhythm with it. Nice work with your activity this week!
runswithpugs says
I knew you would! Let’s see if we can pull off day 3 today!
Jenny says
Oh wow, I’m impressed you got up on Memorial Day and ran a race after being out late the night before celebrating! That must have been tough. Or maybe I’m just old, ha ha.
It strikes fear into my heart that my daughter could get her permit in six months (noooooo!) but she’s in no hurry to drive so maybe (hopefully) we’ll put it off for a bit. I’m sure A will be a good driver though! He’s really growing up.
Sounds like you have a great summer ahead of you, and it must feel good to add some strength training back in. Feeling strong physically can lead to feeling strong mentally, which is always a good thing.
runswithpugs says
It was AWFUL. I only had two cocktails with our evening, so that was ok, but I was EXHAUSTED. I took a nap after my shower, and I”m not at all sorry about it.
A wasn’t in any hurry either, until he was. It’s hard because in NJ, we couldn’t get our permit until 16 and license at 17. They seem so young. And you know that Floridians follow no rules of the road. He has so much more freedom than my parents ever allowed, and he’s done a great job keeping trust with us, but it’s tough letting go.
Kimberly Hatting says
Looks like a nice action-packed week, with plenty of fitness mixed in. Great job getting back to the strength-training!
runswithpugs says
I’ve done it two days. Can we make it three?
Wendy says
Sounds like a fun, busy week! Curious about that beer (I’m married to a homebrewer)–pilsners are usually clear and that one is hazy. Is it a hazy IPA? I like those because they are juicy, so I thought maybe that is what you were drinking. Donuts and beer–2 of my favorite things!
runswithpugs says
Yeah… I can only tell you what the sign said. I thought pilsner were more clear, too, but I knew zero about beer.
Now donuts? I’m here for that conversation!
San says
Sounds like a fun and productive week 🙂 The weather is beautiful where you are!
runswithpugs says
It certainly can be! But it’s also super swampy and humid, too!
Susanne says
Sounds like a busy but good busy week for you! How lovely with a run/walk streak for June. As soon as it’s possible for me to do something like that again, I’ll do it whatever the weather!
That’s wonderful to hear you’re back to strength training!
Good luck to A and his driving.
What is a beer tapping? I’m intrigued. Is it like bottling? Or tasting from a cask?
runswithpugs says
I hope you can get there quickly!
So a beer tapping is when they brew a beer and then “tap” or open the keg. This was a new beer creation, so we were there to experience the first tasting.
Renée says
still shocked A has his driving permit! HOW?? Wishing you lots of strength and patience during this time LOL
lots of fun stuff coming up! good on you for started strength again! me too! I think I’m on week 5 now? I just keep pushing myself to go and get it done, soon it won’t be such a push anymore.
Jessie says
Way to go getting up early for a race after an evening out! That’s tough.
I feel ya on too much socializing, its great and I don’t like to say no (especially here since I am still trying to establish friendships) but as an introvert, it wears me down…
Cheers to exciting travel and plans on the horizon for you!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Glad you were able to get your cardio, ST, & socializing in this week! Sounds like Summer is off to a great start. It must be so scary to supervise a new driver! I can’t imagine.
Chocolaterunsjudy recently posted…Mini heat wave: 5/29 – 6/4 WRD
Debbie says
You certainly had a busy week – hope this one is a little calmer.
Wasn’t A just a little kindergartner yesterday?
Liz Dexter says
Glad your mammogram was OK. I was worried about mine and it was also OK, the worst bit was getting confused by the gown I had to put on and not spotting the handy totes to put your clothes and handbag in so tottering around with a pile of stuff in my arms! I’ll know better for next time …
