After two weekends away, I’m finally home for a little bit. Of course, it’s absurdly hot, so literally staying home has not been too much of a problem. No one seems motivated to do anything other than lounge around. So here we are.

Sunday
- Cardio: 2.62 miles, walking
I was still at Meghan’s on Sunday morning, so we took advantage with a walk around Baldwin Lake.

And then we followed it with birthday donuts to celebrate just a little bit more.

And then it was time to hit the road. The weather was actually decent for the two hour drive (usually it rains at some point), and I made it in record time. At home, I got unpacked and organized, and then one of A’s friends came over for dinner and some movies.
Monday
- Cardio: 3.28 miles, running + 3.01 miles, walking
Another Monday. The heat, humidity and air quality were trash. Utter trash. We did what we could.

Mr. PugRunner had a doctor’s appointment and I had a nail appointment.

Oh, and A started band camp. It’s going to be a fabulous season.

Tuesday
- Cardio: 4.71 miles, walking
Another super hot morning. Sigh.

From there, we had to go to Mr. PugRunner’s echocardiogram. It was a long appointment as his tech was brand new and wanted to make sure he got EVERYTHING. Spoiler alert. Everything was status quo. It’s not perfect, but we are holding steady and that’s all we can do right now.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.48 miles, running + 4.73 miles, walking
Again, we are just doing our best over here. I have been breaking up my miles into “before camp drop-off” and “after.” I’m able to get a mixup of scenery, though, so that’s ok.

After some work, I met a friend at the St. Augustine Distillery and The Ice Plant for a self-guided tour and some drinks and snacks. We only get to see each other every few months, but it’s so fun when we do.

Thursday
- Cardio: 4.29 miles, walking
I was THRILLED that we had a coffee truck in our neighborhood. I treated myself to an iced blueberry cream coffee after a grueling set of miles. Yum.

It was a bit of a dull day. We are waiting on a repair for our microwave and we had to order a new kitchen faucet for that to be replaced next week. I also had to submit some proposals, attend another training and hit some deadlines. Not to toot my own horn, but I am crushing this week.
Friday
- Cardio: 8.83 miles, running + walking
It was just too awful when I started out in the morning. I tried to run, but it fell apart super fast. Oh, well. I did wear all pink in honor of the Barbie Movie release. I am so excited to see it and we are going next week.

The boys went to the driving range, while I worked.
In the evening, A invited his band section over to tie-dye some shirts for their spirit week next week, and we had pizza and ice cream for them. I loved the laughter and conversation, and hope that we can open our home for more things like this.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.19 miles, walking
A light day. I stayed up way too late and we also had to be at the dojo at 8:45.

I spent a few hours getting karate content, and then some more time rinsing and washing all the tie dye shirts. Maybe I’m biased, but their section is going to look incredible!
Dinner with friends at night. I love getting the chance to do that.
Thoughts + Goals
So, here we are. I’m finding some new motivation simply because I have some increased responsibilities in my workload. It’s a good thing.
I’m really soul-searching on an August race. It’s just so hot. Too hot. And yes, I can walk, but that doesn’t feel super fun. I have a target in mind, but I think I might wait til the week of to register.
Back to reading consistently, and I just finished Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. It was heavy, but good. Next up is Yellowface by R. F. Kuang, but I’m rereading the ACOTAR series in between to lighten things up.
This week is band camp part 2, DCI, and the end of July. I can’t wait to see what they’ve been working on at the end of the week! And we are going to see Barbie, and hopefully Oppenheimer. I can’t do both at once, so that might have to wait until next week.
Coming up this week on the blog, I’m writing about…
- Wednesday: Let’s Talk about ParkRun on The Runners’ Roundup
- Friday: Runfessions on Fit Five Friday
Will you be seeing Barbie and/or Oppenheimer? Read anything good lately?
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

You are always so busy. I love the mixture of fun and healthy activities.
I also can’t imagine running in your weather. So I won’t complain about ours.
Maybe on those movies. Things are busy here with work and car issues.
LOL. It’s ok to complain. I think everywhere is melting right now.
I’m sorry about your car. That stinks 🙁
It looks like you got a lot of activity in spite of the heat! I want to see Barbie–I have to see if my sister will go. My son is doing ‘Barbieheimer’–seeing both movies, lol. I’ll wait on Oppenheimer.
I loved Demon Copperhead, but I returned Yellowface to the library. I just wasn’t feeling it, but most likely I’ll pick it back up later.
Now I’m curious. I am going to finish my ACOTAR book and then dig in to see what I think.
I will get to Oppenheimer, but I know it’s going to be depressing and enraging.
Glad to read your husband’s test went ok and he is stable. I know how stressful this all can be unfortunately. Way to keep up your activity despite the challenging heat and humidity. Looks like you had some fun friend time as well
It’s so hard. I hope you are feeling well with all your travel and everything. <3
I loved Demon Copperhead — he managed to hang on to hope no matter what happened.
No way would I sign up for a race in August, and I don’t even live in FL.
I’ve never heard of a coffee truck, except the one at the farmers market, but it doesn’t visit neighborhoods.
I felt absolutely beaten down when I got done with it! Like how many things does this character have to endure? But that’s how destructive cycles happen, so it made sense. I think I want to read the Poisonwood Bible.
One of the neighborhoods has a coffee cart! It’s attached to someone’s bike and it’s freaking genius!
My daughter starts band camp tomorrow! Since my son already went through it, i know they also have a day where each section makes a special shirt. How fun!!!
I know, this weather is just not conducive to great training. And we’ve got quite a while to go before it cools down! Sounds like you’re getting out there consistently and doing your best. Just remember, we’ll be happy in January when our weather is beautiful and everyone else is buried in snow.
Glad your husband is doing well!
Almost done with week 2! They are doing so great! I hope your daughter has a great time!
Good job on getting out there despite the heat – the heat and humidity farther south has sounded awful these last few weeks. Luckily, it’s cooler on the bike so the heat doesn’t affect me as much. Back when I was training for marathons. I started many long runs at 5 AM to beat the heat.
I am so not a movie person and will always prefer to wait until I can watch it at home, but that usually means I forget about it and end up not watching it. LOL
I’m a movie junkie, and the past few years have been hard, because nothing has really inspired me or made me feel the things I love about movies. (Conversely, tv shows are what I don’t love) I like heavy stuff, with lots of character development, and not always happy endings. And lately, I feel like it’s all action (which is fine) and nothing that really spoke me. That being said, I’m creeping back in to the theater experience and finally getting some really great (to me) films. Air was the start of my movie comeback – no matter how you feel about Nike, the story was incredible, and the acting flawless, and the characters were so well written and performed. I think Barbie and Oppenheimer will rock me in very different ways, so I’m looking forward to it.
I will be seeing both movies hopefully! Can’t wait. I will need some coffee for the 3 hour Oppenheimer though hehe- and that coffee truck sounds like the perfect place to get it, ha! What a fun week, despite the heat. Glad you were able to connect with friends, that’s so important.
Three hours is going to be hard. I found an app that tells you when it’s “safe” to peace out for a bathroom break, so I may download that. I’m kind of a loner when it comes to movies, so I like to go in the morning when no one else is there, so we will see if I can snag an almost empty theater lol.
The coffee truck was such a welcome treat!
Although Iowa’s heat and humidity aren’t quite as severe as Florida’s, I can sympathize. We have a heavy dose of the stuff headed our way this next week…
Stay safe. It may not be as bad, but if you’re not used to it, it’s not great.
I don’t know how you run in that heat. It was horrible when we were in FL but I have to say Columbia SC was even toastier. It’s soul sucking. Hope A has so much fun in band camp!
I bet SC didn’t have much off a breeze. It’s just so gross.
We’re actually going to see Indy shortly. Mission Impossible & Oppenheimer are also 9n the list. Sorry, no interest at all in Barbie. 8 wasn’t as a kid & still am not. Let’s just say Mr. Judy almost choked at the price — we get a whopping $.50 senior discount.
Hurray for status quo! That’s actually quite good.
You’re doing fantastic. I almost always wait to see what the weather’s doing before signing up for a race. Wait, I haven’t actually raced this year . . .
Chocolaterunsjudy recently posted…How to get strong?: 7/17 – 23 WRD
We will see Oppenheimer next week. Probably MI, too.
I think Barbie will be a love it or hate it thing. Greta Gerwig is so talented, though, and I am just embracing the pink.
We have the rewards program at our theater, so we have tons of free tickets and discounted and free snacks!
I’m so sorry that it’s so hot there Jenn! I’ve said it many times, but I’ll say it again… no way I could handle the heat and humidity in Florida. You are still stronger than me!
Nice that A is enjoying band camp and having a good time with friends. And I’m glad to know that Mr PR is holding steady.
I love that you are still getting it done, however you can. And your smashing work goals out at the same time. Pretty impressive!
