You all know I’m a pretty busy bee over, here, but this week was especially fun. And I was so happy for it. Sometimes, you really just need the good times. At least, I do. Having things on the calendar and events to look forward to help my mental health so much.
Sunday
- Cardio: 2.4 miles, walking + 3 miles, kayaking
Mr PugRunner and I had a morning date to go kayaking! I hurried up to get in a little walk first.
Then it was off to Anastasia State Park! They have great kayak rentals, and an awesome stretch of water for paddling. It’s about 1.5 miles from the beach to the lighthouse, so that’s what we did.
And then we wrapped it up with the most incredible brunch at Surfside Kitchen. They have whipped coffee, mermaid mimosas, and brunch boards to share, which means, I’ve been desperate to try.
Monday
I was up and at ’em early, because that’s just how we do it. I had to be done with my run by 7:15 to take A to camp and get to a meeting. It was a huge scramble.
I also got called in for a Yelp event at the Sandbar Jax Beach, a rooftop restaurant, who wanted to host a small party of 50 for dinner. It was an incredible evening.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.05 miles, walking
Oh, Tuesday. Nothing special. I was really tired from the night before, so I struggled through my walk and spent the rest of the day working from the couch.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3.35 miles, running + 4.3 miles, walking
BEST DAY EVER! Ok, not ever, but it was the Barbie Movie Day!
A little run in the morning.
Then we got ready and went to lunch at a new to us Mexican restaurant. I was all in my pink, and I wanted a pink cocktail to celebrate. The paloma was perfect. From there, it was off to the movies.
No spoiler alerts, but I thought it was a fantastic movie, and Mr PugRunner liked it. He said he didn’t understand some of the jokes and details, because he didn’t grow up with Barbie, but he appreciated the message. I laughed and cried, and really thought it was amazing.
After that, we went to a restaurant by our house for wine, and apps, where we ran into friends and ended up staying out way later than planned. C’est la vie.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3 miles, walking
Buckle your seatbelts; today was a DAY! It started with a leaking toilet (that we fixed).
Then I headed out for my walk.
And then I had one last meeting with a potential client, who agreed to terms and is now my new client!
From there, I started working on my new project, and then headed to school to help serve snacks to the band. When I got home, the handyman was installing our new kitchen faucet (although we did discover a leak outside, so that’s upsetting).
But the night ended with the marching band preview! It’s inside because of weather, but it was phenomenal. What a season it’s going to be.
Friday
- Cardio: 1 mile, walking
We were out the door at 7AM for our road trip to DCI! I don’t know why Atlanta always feels so far away, but it takes forever.
Our first stop was Doodle Pies, a build your own pie shop, featuring sweet and savory pies. They have signature offerings, but you can also make your own, that they will assemble and bake for you. I saw it on Tik Tok, and had to visit. It was the right choice.
We checked into our hotel and then went to the World Of Coca Cola. It was cute, but I don’t have to visit again. It was still limited capacity, but felt crowded, and the floors in the tasting room were so sticky (although the staff was valiantly trying to keep up with the mess). After a while, I just got claustrophobic and anxious and wanted out.
Fun fact: A is not a soda drinker. He will occasionally sip at some root beer or an orange soda, but water is his go to drink. So he tried his first actual Coca Cola at the World of Coke. He did not love it lol.
We had to scramble to make our dinner reservations, but that’s ok. It was excellent.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.16 miles, walking
Gooood morning! I’m not super familiar with the area so I hit the hotel gym. Nice gym. Hate the dreadmill.
The boys slept in, which was fine.
We planned a morning at the Jimmy Carter Museum, which I have never done before. Jimmy Carter is my favorite. He’s the first president I remember and I always felt such amazing energy from him.
Then lunch,
and time for DCI!
if you’ve never been to a percussion show, it’s … something! You can feel the music in your cells. A was absolutely in heaven. I don’t know that this is more enjoyable for me than our marching band, but I’m glad we got to experience it. And that I got to see my friend, Amy, also a bad mom, with whom I used to run!
Thoughts + Goals
I kind of missed this focused kind of busy. I work so much better when I’m on a schedule, so this is going to be good.
We also really needed this trip. It was something different, where we completely went outside the box with a new hotel, new restaurants, and new activities. On the other hand, it was fabulous getting to see friends! Those are the best times.
Running is going. It’s just too hot and I’m too tired. And that’s ok (?). I hate feeling this way but it will get better.
What’s next? This week starts back to school meetings and the end of band camp. We will have a car wash to help the kids fundraise. I am setting up a “satellite office” upstairs since Mr PugRunner is using our office full time. Not ideal but we will figure it out.
Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

Looks like you had a lot of fun this week! A kayaking date sounds great. I need to get to the Barbie movie too but my hubs will not be joining me for that lol. You look really happy! Have a great week

I’m glad you had such a good week! The trip to Atlanta sounds really fun and I’ll bet that percussion show was… intense. Funny thing about Coke… my son doesn’t like soda either. which I cannot even fathom!!! I love soda soooo much. I used to drink way too much Coke, then had to cut myself off and now I have a Coke Zero every now and then. But it’s a funny thing about people who don’t like soda- Coke tastes really weird to them, like they just don’t get the flavor.
I agree running is hard these days. We just have to do what we can, and be ready for fall running when the weather cools down again.
Oh, and Jimmy Carter- great president! He doesn’t get enough credit.

I have heard such mixed reviews on Barbie, LOL. I haven’t decided if I’ll get to it or not, though I did grow up with an army of Barbie dolls…

Oh how fun! Three of my sibs competed in DCI for years. The shows are quite the spectacle. Glad A had fun. I agree Coke World is a one and done. My girls are not soda fans either and do not drink cola at all. Glad you had a fun week!

What a fun week! So my take on Coke: tastes amazing after a hard race. Otherwise, i don’t drink it at all. Also, I ‘prescribe’ it for all my patients who have the stomach flu. It’s an amazing anti-emetic. Sometimes kids tell me they aren’t allowed to drink pop but I tell them it’s medicine too.
You must be so proud of your son!! And you should be!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Wow… you had some week and love when it’s fun.
You r son is not missing much… I only drink Coke if I’m sick.
I hope to see the Barbie movie soon.

It sounds like you had a fun and busy week. Family vacations are the best!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Seriously, I could do with a vacation where I just relax by a pool. I don’t feel that busy & yet . . . I do. Well, again, not gonna happen anytime soon.
It was a very.big.deal when Mr. Judy gave up his coke. I gave up soda after college. Alcohol, too. Don’t miss either. Yes, I’m weird!

Totally agree with your review of Barbie! I am planning to go again on Sunday with Dustin and the dogs to a dog-friendly screenings! I grew up very much a Barbie gal with 4 sisters and all the Barbies in our house, so it was very nostalgic, but also so so beautiful and inspiring. I also cried!

sorry so late commenting Jenn! What an AMAZING week! I am still on the fence about Barbie by the way because I’m one of those kids who didn’t have many Barbies and maybe also won’t know a lot of the inside jokes. I will also have to go alone as my mostly open minded husband just doesn’t want to go.
