Well, this week was a bit of an easier week. The weather is finally cooling, but we have had lots of smoke from a wildfire, and my foot is not feeling great. Ugh. It’s taken a terrible toll on my motivation, but we press onward.
Sunday
- Cardio: 2.44 miles, walking
Meghan was still in town, so we started the morning with a walk. I was hurting after being on my feet at the festival the day before, so we didn’t go super far or fast.
It’s always hard to say goodbye. We have such a great time together. But after brunch, we had to do farewells. Fortunately, I had the rest of the day to chill out and recover from an action packed weekend.
Monday
- Cardio: 2 miles, running + 5.56 miles, walking
On Monday morning, I felt good, not great. The weather was nice and the smoke not as terrible, so I chanced a run. Zero regrets.
We had discussed going to see Oppenheimer, but it was so pretty out. I didn’t want to be cooped up inside all day. Instead, we went to play mini golf and to grab dinner at one of Mr. PugRunner’s favorite restaurants. It was not my best game: the man behind us kept encroaching on our playing space and being super rude to his partner. When she shocked him with a hole in one, I cheered for her.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 4.03 miles, walking
Back to the routine after a three day weekend. Boo.
After my walk, I dove right into work. There was a morning meeting with a client and then an evening board meeting. In between, I batched a lot of content and knocked things off my to do list.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 6.16 miles, running + walking
Ok. The smoke was awful. I couldn’t be outside without sneezing, so I ran for a bit and then J and I just put it on the back burner. You can see the smoke line in the background of this picture.
Here’s another photo to show what we are dealing with. The fire is contained, but without a good, soaking rain, we are stuck with that gross smoke. Fortunately, my house is a little farther away, and you can’t smell it from my street.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.15 miles, walking
Still gross out. And my foot was really bugging. Ugh. I finally just broke out my new pink Adrenalines. I couldn’t wait anymore.
In the afternoon, I had a content shoot with a client, so that kept me pretty busy for the rest of the day. I need to figure out a solid organization system for photos and videos – I’m wracking up more than a few these days.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.37 miles, walking
No company for me, today. J had an appointment, so I was on my own for the workout and for school dropoff. Look at me, trying to keep that smile on my face.
A had Friday Night Lights. I opted to volunteer with dinner, but skip the away game. Mr PugRunner and I had date plans instead. This view from the campus they visited wasn’t terrible, though.
The football team lost, but the band kicked butt. Obviously.
Saturday
- Cardio: 5.41 miles, walking
I was feeling better today. And a light rain helped cut the smoke.
Even though it was the weekend, I wrapped up some work and writing. And then we had my parents over for burgers and football.
It was a lovely day and we were glad to get to see them.
Thoughts + Goals
So. What’s going on with the foot? Since my accident, I have some pretty sensitive spots on my foot. There is nerve damage in my toes, and I do get some swelling when I overwork things. Ultimately, I had been wearing a pair of slightly more restrictive shoes (lifestyle sneakers),which led to some bruising on top of my foot. As a result, I let my form collapse while doing squats and lunges and planks, which led to a flare up in my toes.
As you may have noticed, I dropped all of those things this week, to help. I’ve kept my walks slow and spent plenty of time elevating my foot. It’s annoying because if I cut out movement, things stiffen up terribly. But here we are. There is improvement and I think I’ll be running again in a week or so.
To that end, I registered for my Thanksgiving Day race, but not my September race. The jury is still out on how that will go.
Do you have an extra sensitive body part or muscle that gives you trouble? Anyone else deal with wildfires?

It’s sounds like a decent week despite the fires — and your foot. I hope some TLC resolves that issue quickly.
I hate when wearing the wrong shoes causes problems. I feel like a lot of my (non-running) shoes betray me like that!
We haven’t had local fires — just a heat wave.

It looks like you got a lot in even with the foot issues! I think a lot of us bloggers are having foot problems, lol!
I love those bright pink Adrenalines! Brooks has gone all in on that pink color.

You got in a lot of movement despite the foot aches. I am still rehabbing my sore glutes. It is super annoying not to feel your best. Hope your week is a lot better!

Ugh, sorry to hear about the foot! It’s always EXTRA frustrating when a problem is caused by something you’re doing that’s supposed to help you- in your case, the strength training. You got in a lot of activity in spite of it. I’ve had plantar fasciitis for over three years now and am starting to wonder if I’ll have it forever. Somehow I’m still running in spite of it. I know this is different from your issue. I hope yours can be resolved eventually- damaged nerves repair themselves, right? I guess it just takes time.
I can tell you live in Northern Florida- it’s still hot AF down here. But I know my son is getting a cooldown next week in Texas, so you “northern southerners” will be getting some relief.

We’ve dealt with the Canadian wildfires on & off all Summer! Not fun, but glad you’re safe.
I’m sorry about the foot. Hopefully it will cooperate this week.
Sounds like you did p,ent of fun things this week!

yes on the foot. I have to wear shoes with wide toe box and that’s flip flops or Topos running shoes. And when I don’t I pay the price.
I also can’t wear Brooks but they do not have a low heel drop. That’s puts too much pressure on my toes. I used to wear 0 drop but my foot feels better so I’m up to 5mm. But my shoes are not pretty like Brooks.

LOVE the new shoes! You got in tons of activity even with an “easier” week – way to go. And that band photo is fabulous – it’s such a big group and they look so happy! Yikes about the smoke – we had some smoke from the Canadian wildfires, but it maybe (Fingers crossed) has quieted down for the moment? Hoping yours does soon too.

I’m so sorry to hear about the fires and the foot. Glad the fire is contained though. It looks like you had an active week despite the foot pain. Foot pain can be so debilitating, and as you know I know all about it! Now that I know it’s safe to use the foot I try to keep moving it as much as possible, if I sit with my feet elevated I still do some movements of toes and ankles..
After my injury I’ve stopped using standard shoes, especially now with my achy big toes and bunion tendency, I only use Altra or minimalist shoes with zero drop, wide toe box and that allow the foot to move naturally. To begin with (before the boot) because these were the only shoes with enough space for my swollen foot but now I find these the most comfortable shoes.
Anyway I love the colour of your Brooks and hope you get better soon!

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been dealing with foot pain again and hope it feels better soon.
To answer your question, we were affected by the Canadian wildfires earlier in the summer, but we’ve not had to deal with any local fires. Glad to hear that the ones near you are contained.

That looks like some serious smoke! Sorry to hear about the foot issues/pain…hope things feel better this week!
Marcia says
Hope your foot is ok! That smoke is disgusting. So hard to run in those conditions. Hope the rain helped clear the air.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve found more sensitive spots. If I sleep funny my back hurts. If I turn my head wrong my neck hurts. My foot is doing something weird too, with pain on the outside, that it’s never done before.
I hope your foot is okay.
Rachel says
Holy moly that smoke is crazy. I hope you’re feeling ok! We had smoke from the Canadian wildfires and it was really tough to breathe.
As a fellow band mom, the band always wins, don’t they? <3
