Over the last month, the idea of a fitness comeback rooted itself in my brain. I was unhappy, uncomfortable, and unsatisfied with my current path, and I missed the days of feeling strong and powerful and able to take on the world. After some discussion, we joined the nearby YMCA, and I worked up the courage to take on the complimentary strength test. Almost immediately, I felt my mojo return, and I knew I was on a path back to myself. I decided to build myself up from the foundation, returned to Couch to 5K, and here we are!
My Motivation Is Back
With a plan in place, I find myself wanting to wake up and get out the door in the morning. Sure, I hit the snooze button, but I WANT to get to the gym and hit the road. It used to feel like a chore and a drudgery, but now, I have a checklist to punch, and I am so excited about it.
This Body Remembers What It’s Capable Of
It’s been a while since our days at 9Round, when I felt my best, but my body hasn’t forgotten its power. I really thought I would spend this first week of strength training in so much pain and misery, but that’s not the case. Instead, my muscles want to push and keep going, and I love that feeling, even if I have to rein them in. After all, safety first.
I’m Excited To Have Goals In Reach
Before joining this gym, my goals were hazy. I wanted to register for some races, but I didn’t have any real plans, other than saying I checked them off my list. Now, I’m revved up. Of course, I’m not getting any younger, but it’s so good to feel the energy of a fitness comeback.
My Energy Is High
Mental and emotional fitness go hand in hand with physical fitness, and the combination is exhilarating. feel energized and empowered, ready to conquer the world. Even with the earlier wakeup, I don’t find myself dragging by mid-afternoon. Instead, I’m ready to start new projects and complete tasks. It’s awesome.
I’ve Got Positive Vibes
Mindset is everything, and mine is so positive right now. Exercise always makes me feel better, but this is different. Of course, there will be rough spots, but I am riding this positive wave as long as I can!

So glad you are feeling good and enjoying your comeback! It really is about the mental benefits as much as the physical ones.

Absolutely!

Even reading this post makes me feel energized! Nice job, Jenn! It’s great to have a fitness comeback!
What kind of races are you planning to do?
runswithpugs says
Nothing too outrageous. A 5K for breast cancer next week, two destination 5Ks in November, and then whatever holiday races I can make happen.

I’m so happy to hear about your renewed mojo and motivation and that you feel strong and (what I call) “oomphy” again! Yay for you!
runswithpugs says
Oomphy is an amazing word!

Yay! I’m so happy for your fitness comeback. Just yesterday my husband and I were talking about re-joining a local gym. It would be more his fitness comeback than mine though I have been a bit lazy over the summer. I’m looking forward to it because we always are more consistent when we do it together.

It’s nice to have a plan and a course of action. My husband and I go separately (we have different goals) but we run into each other there and it’s been good for both of us. He didn’t think he needed more than the community gym (which is super limited), but he is enjoying the new options.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes! I am in a similar situation right now. It feels good to feel good doesn’t it?!
runswithpugs says
Oh my gosh, yes!

This is great, I’m so glad for you. I don’t find our local gym covid-safe and so I left, but I need to ask our running club coaches for some sort of all-round return to fitness programme as with two bouts of Covid and a health scare plus my back/hamstring issues I’ve gone really unfit this year. Power to you!
runswithpugs says
I am so sorry to hear that. I almost feel like nowhere is Covid safe anymore, but the gym has high ceilings and is pretty spaced out. I wipe down everything religiously, and go at low traffic times. I think I’m going to get the new booster this week.
Liz Dexter says
Oh that’s brilliant, I’m glad for you. Our wonderful Govt has decided boosters are only going to the over-65s this autumn, and the vulnerable, so Mr Liz is getting one and he gets a free flu one too and I am able to get a private one.
