Exercising The Demons is the name of the new Goodr sunglasses I just got, and honestly, it’s kind of the truth. When we exercise, we absolutely purge all kinds of feelings and toxicity, and it feels darn good. So that’s the theme of this stormy week. Let’s get into it.
Sunday
- Cardio: 2.90 miles, walking
Another week. We were all absolutely wrecked after the late competition, and we all took the opportunity to sleep in and just rest.
I love this time of year, but it is so hard on the body.
Our nephew came to visit and spend the night, which was a nice treat. We spent some time at the local sports bar, so he and Mr PugRunner could watch football, and then I took A home so they could have some guy time. Did I sneak in a nap? Probably.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.02 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
The morning was wild with a lot of moving parts. Somehow, we got everything organize and everyone on their way.
I hustled through my run (which is feeling great, by the way), and got to the gym for arms and abs. My confidence is increasing with every session I go to the Y, and that is making me super happy.
But wait! There’s more! I had coffee in my new spooky cup, and got my nails done!
And then Mr PugRunner and I went to media preview night of the all new Pesca Vilano for a delightful night of dinner and drinks. I think this will be our new “occasion” restaurant, with its rooftop bar and gorgeous dining room.
Everything was gorgeous and delicious, and I even tried octopus for the first time!
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.36 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Please don’t ask how I made it out of bed in the morning. I have no idea. But I was up and in the gym before 6AM. I really pushed it on legs because the motivation is beyond real.
Tuesday was a day of meetings, which makes it not my favorite day. I could really do without meetings.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 8.2 miles, running + walking
I was sore and tired and didn’t want to go to the gym, so I added in some miles instead. We also said hello to this fun guy.
Another meeting in the evening, although this one was a lot more exciting.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3.13 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
So Wednesday night was a little scary with bad storms and tornado watches. That’s never my jam. However, by morning, it wasn’t so bad, even if it was still drizzly and windy. I did my gym workout, then headed out for some miles.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.89 miles, running
- Strength: personal training session, 30 minutes
TGIF! For real! We finally had a bit of a chill day!
I ran on my own for a very foggy few miles (peep the new Goodr glasses!)
The trainer session was… good. I guess. It’s really my first time. I really enjoyed the form adjustments and new exercises. But I hate sweating in front of people and having them watch me. However, I was sore after the day wore on, so something was working.
And then we finally had a night off of football and band! Yay for chill nights at home!
Saturday
- Cardio:
I got up early to get in my walk, and then hustled A to practice.
Competition days are long days that involve early rehearsals, truck loading and unloading, several meals, and an actual performance. It’s not for the faint of heart!
I was so glad to spend the day with friends and this amazing band family. Love them all so much!
Thoughts + Goals
Things are good. Really good. I love working out. There are new books coming into the house and getting read. Bandtober is on fire. Halloween is coming.
We are very much looking to Monday off from all the things, as well as some more trips. We also just passed the end of the first quarter, which is absolutely insane to me. But here we are.
And so we just keep moving along! It’s all downhill to 2024!

Yes, I know- how is 1/4 of the school year already GONE??? And wait- did I see you wearing a sweatshirt in one photo? Once again- northern Florida is so different from South Florida this time of year. I want to move.
Sounds like you had a great week all around. i’m glad your runs are feeling good and you’re enjoying the gym! i can never work out as hard by myself as I can with a trainer, so I think it’s a good thing. It’s been years since I worked with a trainer and sometimes I think of going back to it. I’m sure I would make better progress.
I love those sunglasses! And your nails! And I love how you’re embracing Spooky Season.

Girl, it’s FREEZING here! We may turn on the heat tonight! It will be in the 40s!
I liked the trainer.. it was a little intrusive and I get annoyed when people are supportive of me when I’m struggling, but it’s all for the right reasons LOL!
Deborah Brooks says
I am so glad that you are feeling more confident with you workouts. That is one of the best perks of exercise (in my opinion) keep up the old work
runswithpugs says
It really is and I needed these wins.

Love those sunglasses and the nails!!
That dress is gorgeous and green is your color.
Sounds like the gym is working for you… Mine machines are very routine but better than nothing. Trainer costs $$$ but it would make me more accountable.

They aren’t cheap for sure, but I can justify it because of the care he took in helping find alternatives for the things that really hurt my ankle and toes. Getting to go into a low squat again was such a huge boost for me, and if I can get more of those feelings, I’m willing to spend a little extra once or twice a month.
Thank you – I almost bought the dress in a rose gold color but then I found the green and was like “YAS!”

I haven’t been to the gym in forever! I’ve got to get back on it. I have missed it! As always, I’d like to target my legs in hopes that it avoids injury.
I love all of your band events… but I agree, it is nice when you get a night at home too 🙂
runswithpugs says
You know, I had a leg workout today and it was soooo boring. I didn’t feel anything from it, even when I boosted up my weights. I guess some days are like that.
Yes, I loved having the night home. It was perfect.
Coco says
Yay on running feeling good and all those gym workouts and being more confident at the gym!
I love your Halloween manicure!
The band photos are so good!
runswithpugs says
These nails turned out great!
This band org brings out photographers and it was so nice to get great, up close photos! They weren’t super expensive either, so I was happy to support the photographers and buy them!
Wendy says
I am so glad to hear that you’re loving your workouts! Sweating in front of other people is nothing to be shy about. It shows how hard you’re working.
I love the photos of your son!
runswithpugs says
I know but I sweat HARD. I hate it.
These were really great photos and I love them so much. Hoping for more from this week’s show.
Kimberly Hatting says
Nice week of workouts and busyness! Looks like the gym is becoming a good friend 😉
runswithpugs says
I need better friends LOL! But yes, the gym is serving its purpose for the moment.
Jessie says
Busy busy! But looks like you’re balancing it all.
I do like octopus, but then I have heard so much about how smart they are (my octopus teacher on netflix, remarkably bright creatures- the book…) that I struggle 🙁 But I feel that way about a lot of things that I still eat…
anyways, love that green dress on you! You look great in jewel tones.
runswithpugs says
I know! I thought about that, too, but it was already there, and I didn’t necessarily order it, so…
Thank you! I love jewel tones and the dress was a fabulous find!
Liz Dexter says
What a busy week! I love the nails and glasses and I suspect the personal trainer has seen people sweat before – better that than not sweating and not getting the value out of it!

Cheers to some cooler weather! Looks like a great week for you. Love that you’re enjoying the gym so much! Fun glasses and nails!

Sounds like you had a great, if busy, week! So did you like the octopus? I’m not a fan. I don’t like chewy things much.
As I said on a past post, I really loved working with my trainer back in the day. It probably helped that it was an all women gym (although I’ve also been a member of multisex gyms — sounds dirty, doesn’t it, LOL)!
Keep up the great work!
