Spooky runfessions are some of the most fun runfessions! This is, indeed, the time of the year when the confessions from our “soles” are certainly more and more interesting, as more is going on around us! Let’s see what I have to bring to the runfessional this October.
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
I Am Kind Of Loving The Spooky Running Views
While I do scare very easily, I love seeing all the super elaborate decorations while I’m running and walking. I always feel a little nervous about taking selfies in front of people’s homes, but I have convinced myself that they wouldn’t be all that work into decorating if they didn’t want passersby to enjoy. This guy absolutely took me by surprise.
I Didn’t Make The Most Of This Spooky Season
Bandtober got the best of me. There were so many super cool events going on, but with all our travel and competitions and the awful rain, I couldn’t make it all work. Ugh. That being said, we have a ladies’ night at a local farm tonight, and a Halloween party on Saturday. Can you believe I only got one pumpkin patch this year? Sigh.
I Am Struggling With My Gym Goals (sort of)
That sounds worse than it is, honestly. I love the idea of my strength training, but I’m a cardio queen. There are tons of great classes at the Y and I want to take advantage of them, too. That being said, I’m addicted to my run streak and don’t want to trade up. Which means I could be spending actual hours working out daily, if you add up miles, weights, and then a 45-60 minute class. Does that seem excessive? I think it’s excessive.
I’ve Got A Race Coming Up, And I’m Nervous
It’s the most ridiculous thing, but it’s a new to me race, in a new to me place, with new to me people. This is all very terrifying for an introvert with social anxiety. Add in a completely new weather situation, and I’m just slightly unsettled. Ugh. But it’s going to be great! I know it!
I Runfess That I Hate Weekday Halloweens
Isn’t it the worst? A fun night right in the middle of the week? Ugh. l want to stay up late and have fun and enjoy all the things, but we need to be reasonable and still be up for school and work things the next day. Adulting is rough.
What do you have to runfess?

I agree: That many workouts would be excessive. I am not a fan of school night Halloween either. Such a buzzkill. Although trick or treating seems to be fading away anyway. Bummer.
Deborah Brooks says
I think you will find a great balance of cardio and strength that works for you. Maybe shorter runs on strength days?
runswithpugs says
Ehhhhh. Maybe LOL!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
To keep up my streak on strength days, I run to and from the gym. It’s 1.5 miles each way the shortest route and I do more if I have time on the way home usually.
Where is your new race? I like doing a new course for variety and I always meet nice people!
runswithpugs says
Great plan!
It’s in Alabama. I have never been there and I’m super excited.
Jenny says
Oh yes, I am a cardio addict! I’ve finally learned to take strength training seriously, but if I could get away with just running I would never lift a weight again. I’m not trying to keep up a streak, so it’s a little easier for me. I like Erica’s idea of running to and from the gym, if that’s feasible.
So you’re going to a Halloween party and went to one pumpkin patch- you still did more than I did this month! I agree, Halloween on a weeknight is tough. My daughter has plans to trick or treat with friends and I’ll be home giving out candy- Wednesday morning will be painful.
Good luck with your race! You will be fine. I hope it’s really fun.
runswithpugs says
LOL! I want to do all the pumpkin patches and all the pop ups and everything! I’m a pain.
Technically, I can run to the gym, but there are some difficulties for me (namely, I wear pants to lift and shorts to run, I don’t carry ear buds to run, but I use them to lift, etc). So I park at the gym and use that as a home base – I can workout, change, and then run or walk. But I still want to add in some classes.
Kimberly Hatting says
My biggest stressor with a new-to-me race is getting to the race site. Once I’m on the scene, I’m usually good. That being said, my Spooky Sprint 10K (last weekend) was a new-to-me race in a very familiar place…and it still was a train wreck, LOL. I prefer Halloweens on the weekends, too!
runswithpugs says
I am going to make us leave so early to get parked and get our race packets lol.
Coco says
Special events on a weekday are disruptive — but that’s part of the fun.
I struggle fitting in all the strength and cardio I want to — and the PT. It’s a tough puzzle to solve!
runswithpugs says
Sooo disruptive. But I love it anyway.
We need more hours in a day.
Michelle says
New-to-me races always stress me out just a little – it’s the logistics (parking, etc.) Where is your race?
It’s interesting I’ve seen no Halloween decorations this year. I agree that weekday Halloweens are not as much fun.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
I haven’t taken a single y class. Just barely fit in the machines. Running is my priority.
Not having little kids puts a damper on my Halloween activities.
Do tell. Where is your race? I’m running my marathon alone. Scary. Looking forward to next year when my friends will be running it too.
runswithpugs says
Montgomery, AL! Mr PugRunner is going to do it now, too. I don’t think it’s a great idea for him, but it’s going to be cooler so maybe it will be ok.
I hope you marathon goes well. It’s hard to be alone, but I think you will have a great time, regardless!
