Well, it finally happened. I got Covid. And I do NOT recommend it one bit. If you’ve noticed I haven’t been blogging or super present on social media, this is the reason. And I took my rest and recovery very seriously. But I’m back, and it’s time to catch up on all the things I’ve missed.
Sunday, 11/26
- Cardio: 4.51 miles, walking
Happy Sunday! We slept in a little and then got to work on laundry and getting the house tidied for the week. I walked, and then A and I went out on some errands. It was a long, but good day. In the meantime, Mr PugRunner was sick. I corralled him in the guest room, but he was testing negative and didn’t stay put.
Monday, 11/27
- Cardio: 7.35 miles, running + walking, elliptical, 17 minutes
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 45 minutes
I woke up on Monday absolutely raring to go! I had my morning run.
And then I crushed it at the gym. It was the most productive day I’ve had in quite some time, and I rode that wave.
Tuesday, 11/28
- Cardio: 2.23 miles, walking, elliptical, 15 minutes, rower, 10 minutes
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 45 minutes
The day started ok, and I put in my time at the gym, introducing the rower to my workout. I got home, did some work, and had lunch.
And then the wheels fell right off the bus. I got nauseous and started throwing up. In fact, I thought I had food poisoning. It was absolutely miserable. I didn’t leave my bed for the rest of the day, and struggled to keep anything down.
Wednesday, 11/29
I woke up, still queasy, and kept getting sick. Mr PugRunner was feeling better but went to the doctor for some advice on cough meds that would work with his blood pressure issues. While there, they tested him, and guess what? Even though he was negative at home, he popped a positive there. Ugh. They recommended I test as well, and I was NOT thrilled at all with the results of that.
A, blessedly, tested negative and caught nothing.
Thursday, 11/30
Another awful day. Mr PugRunner was on the mend (his symptoms started way before mine, so he was further ahead on the curve), so it was just me that was struggling. Ugh.
Friday, 12/1
It was a fairly devastating day. A had his all-arts winter show that night, and I was so sure that I would test negative and be able to go. I was very wrong. It was absolutely terrible not being able to help set up, watch the show, or take photos. I did get some videos, but it wasn’t the same and I struggled hard with missing out.
Saturday, 12/2
On Saturday, I was feeling much better. Still tired, but there was no more nausea or queasiness. I felt sure I should be testing negative any time now, but my body had different plans. Boo.
Sunday
Another day spent in my room. At this point, I had lost all hope for ever seeing the light of day again. I’m really not meant for being cooped up. Yuck.
Monday
Nothing. Ugh. We had tickets to go on the Holly Jolly Trolley downtown, but I couldn’t go. Mr PugRunner and the kids had a wonderful time, though.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.29 miles, walking
At this point, I was symptom free (although I’m still not super hungry), so I decided it would be ok to get some fresh air and stretch my legs. Fortunately, no one was out, so I didn’t have to avoid any people. This felt so good, and I realized how much I missed moving my body.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.13 miles, running + walking
I was finally ready to give running a try again. Of course, I was so nervous that my fitness was going to be ruined, but I felt good enough to attempt it. To my delight, things went well.
I finally got a negative test, too, but I was way too tired to bust out. Instead, I stayed home, watched tv, and played games on my phone. Recovery is important.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.02 miles, walking
Second negative test and sweet, sweet freedom! Oh, it felt great to be out!
After a wonderful reward walk, I headed out to catch up on the things that have gone by the wayside. It’s all great in the moment, but I do get pretty tired, pretty quickly. I think I was in bed by 8 or 8:30, and I regret nothing.
Friday
- Cardio: 5.79 miles, running + walking
TGIF! I am living for this cool, crisp mornings.
I had a great run on my own, and then with J. When I was finished, I worked on decorating the tree for a bit, as well as finishing up some actual tasks.
A didn’t have to go to school: he had an all day rehearsal for the district’s honor band, which I think he enjoyed. Concert is tomorrow. When we picked him up at 5, we just went straight out to dinner. It was nice to eat out, even though my appetite is still way off.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.51 miles, walking
Let’s start the weekend with a walk.
From there, I went to shoot content at a black belt test, and then it was time for A’s concert. I’m so grateful I got to see him in action in winds. He still has two more jazz events for the year, and I’m excited for those as well.
I had to catch up on some content, so I went to check out the newest Dolly Llama. I couldn’t eat a lot of it, but yum. Ice cream and waffles are the best.
Thoughts + Goals
What an awful two weeks, coming off an incredible time in Charleston. This was our first dance with Covid, and I don’t recommend it at all. I’m still a little tired and worn out, but it will get better. I’m also only eating things that sound appealing, because my stomach is still a little delicate, but that’s ok.
I’m putting it all in the rearview mirror, though, and getting back into the fitness and holiday spirit. The tree will be finished this weekend, and I will dig into baking cookies and wrapping presents.
I think I’m skipping a December race. I have an opportunity to do a 5K on Sunday, but I think I might rather sleep in than push it. It’s not even a holiday event, so that makes it a little less motivating, too. I guess I’ll make it a game time decisions.
How was your last week in training? Anyone else recovering from illness?

I’m so sorry to hear that you got Covid! I had it last year, and like you said, zero stars do not recommend. Glad you are starting to feel better. I thought I had Covid last week when I was so sick, but I kept testing negative, so I had whatever else was going around. Let’s both put it behind us! Feel better!
runswithpugs says
The worst. I’m still super tired and my stomach is not playing nicely with me, but I imagine that will ease up. There are some nasty bugs going around, and I am not here for it at all.
Deborah Brooks says
Ugh I think we are all destined to get it at some point even with all the vaccines. Glad you all were not too sick. Better to have it now then at Christmas time. Onward! As they say. Have a great week Jenn

I felt like such a failure. This was my first time and I was doing so well at avoiding it – and i was exposed quite a bit. I’m glad it’s over, mostly. My stomach is still not right, but I think that happens any time you have stomach issues.
Coco says
Iām so sorry you got sick, but glad A didnāt ā phew!
I canāt imagine taking all those covid tests. They are not fun!
I hope you have a great week ahead!
runswithpugs says
They are the worst. I was getting so depressed.
Jenny says
Ugh. What a bummer you were sick and had to miss those fun events. I’m glad A didn’t get it (Covid is so weird and random) because imagine if he had to miss his concert and all the other fun things going on! And look at it this way- you should be immune for a while, and healthy over Christmas.
I hope you feel good this week!
runswithpugs says
I was so worried about him! He’s such a trooper, though. He took care of us like a champ. I don’t know how we got so lucky.
Debbie says
I’m so sorry you had Covid. I don’t think it’s a matter of if, but when we’ll get it and I suspect we’ll all get it multiple times. I had it in October a year ago and wasn’t allowed to go back to teach at the 55+ gym until I tested negative and it took me almost two weeks (even though I felt great after about four days).
It’s great that you’re back at it in the gym and on the trail!
runswithpugs says
I hate it! I was so good about staying well, and I’m pretty angry that I got it LOL. I don’t think I’m 100% (although negative), but I’m getting there.
Susanne says
Oh no! Iām so sorry, Jenn! But like Jenny said, at least youāll be immune over Christmas. It still sucks having it though. It can take a long time to get a negative test and even longer to get back to normal! I had it the summer of 2021 and after the obvious symtoms were gone, I kept having stuffed nose and sounded ill for two weeks! Then I realised I could have sinusitis and when I started treating that, I got better.
Iām happy for you that youāre well enough to be back running and back to your overall activities.
runswithpugs says
Silver linings, right? I didn’t really have a cough or any cold symptoms, but my voice sounds a little off. Meh. No one wants to hear me talk, anyway lol.
Kimberly Hatting says
Covid is such a weird thing. I’ve been very lucky the two times I’ve had it, but the youngest daughter had it really bad her first time (whom I got it from in Nov. ’20), and she was practically symptom-free a year ago. Glad you’re on the rebound!
runswithpugs says
Like I’m fairly sure we must have had it and been asymptomatic, but this was just yuck. I do not need a repeat.
Marcia says
Ugh so sorry you were sick. Not fun at all and it sucks to miss fun events. Glad you are on the upswing!
runswithpugs says
It’s awful, and I hate missing out. Makeup date night, tonight, though, so I’m excited!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Iām so sorry COVID hit you so hard. š A blessing that A was spared.
Iām also glad youāre giving your body the rest it needs! I know itās hard but it will serve you well.
Hereās to a much better holiday season!

I just want to eaaaaaaat. I’m hungry but nothing sounds good (and nothing feels good after I eat it, either).
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Ugh, covid. Whomp whomp! My son still hasn’t caught covid but the rest of us have. Glad you are back at it and feeling a bit better everyday. It sucks to get that positive result and know you have to miss things š
runswithpugs says
The worst. I felt like such a failure for catching it, and then I was just depressed.
Stacie Seidman says
Ugh! So sorry you caught the plague. Glad you’re on the mend though!
runswithpugs says
And then A got it two weeks later! Ugh!
