By the time this posts, it will be Christmas Eve, and the week of celebrating will be underway! I go back and forth between stress and excitement: some things dropped off my plate, while others hopped on. But, honestly, I’ve worked ahead, caught up with mostly everything and feel positive about the week ahead. So let’s look at the last seven days.
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.20 miles, walking
Can we talk about how this was the chillest day that every chilled? Until it wasn’t? It was literally rainy and dreary and gross. I got so drenched. Peep the waterproof Alter Ego hat, though!
A was a little off that day, and by evening, he took a test. Bam. Positive. Ugh. Of course, it was the last week of school, with a test he had to make up, but we bundled him off to bed with plenty of fluids, and prepared for a long week.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.06 miles, running + 1.19 miles, walking
The night wasn’t terrible as he just had more minor sniffles and cough symptoms. I headed out for my run.
I had a big client meeting that ended up lasting almost two hours, and then I went home to scour the house. We weren’t too worried about getting sick again, but a little extra precaution is always nice.
That night, Mr PugRunner and I checked out another holiday pop up: the Home Alone version at Grey Matter Distillery. It was adorable.
And while we in Jax Beach, we also went to Deck The Chairs. Since it was a Monday night, there wasn’t much of a crowd, and while it was beautiful, the displays weren’t quite as magnificent as years before.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.01 miles, walking, 2000m on the rower
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
And so our week continued. A slept in, and I was glad he was comfortable enough to get some rest. I hit the gym early, and then went for a walk. It was COLD out there, but it felt so good.
Taco Tuesday with a friend, and then home again, home again to finish the deep clean and check on the kiddo. He was doing much better, except for a raging case of cabin fever.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4 miles, running + 2.77 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Happy Wednesday! I was so happy to get in a run with that sunrise! So lovely.
My gym days shifted so I did legs after a run. That was something. The app changed up my exercises, and introduced some wide stance leg extensions and elevated lunges. Those were tricky with my toe issues, but I took my time and got through them.
And then A tested negative and was feeling so much better. We kept him home for the rest of the day, and intended for him to stay home Thursday, too, but he was desperate to go back.
That afternoon, I headed downtown with another friend for high tea! It’s such a neat experience, in the back room of a cozy little pub.
Afterwards, she got a ride, and I had a walk back to my car, so I spent some time taking in the lights. St. Augustine is nationally renowned for their millions of lights, and it’s really quite breathtaking.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3.89 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
Moving on. Once again, I hit the gym, and was treated to some new variations on my arm workouts. And then I followed it with a chilly walk.
Even though it was the lsat day of school, A begged to go back. He wanted to see friends before break, and he was tired of being stuck in his room. I understood, and sent him off.
In the evening, we met up with friends for some socializing, food, and drink. We did a small gift exchange, too! Sometimes, you just need a chill evening with friends.
Friday
- Cardio: 8.13 miles, running + walking (mostly walking)
So… it wasn’t a great run. But the weather was lovely and I just kept going. I also don’t usually go to the gym on Friday, and so I skipped it, even though I hadn’t gone Monday. Meh.
Then it was time for last minute wrapping and some food prep. It was also a big night: we had tickets to see the Nights of Lights via boat, while A had a work lunch, followed by playing in downtown St. Augustine with his jazz band.
I was super bummed to miss the show but they did great.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.74 miles, walking
Happy Festivus! I started Saturday with a walk, and then dug into some food prep and cleaning. So fun.
And then, honestly, it was a down day. It was just what I needed. We wrapped up the night with Christmas movies, and it was kind of just what I needed.
Thoughts + Goals
The goal is to get through the next few days. The holidays are always the perfect storm of creativity and excitement, along with stress and anxiety. We had to switch around some traditions, and make some changes, but I think it’s going to be a nice two days.
How was your week of training? Do you have any big plans over the next few days?

Sounds like a busy, fun week of holiday celebration to me! I’d love that light show via boat! We had dinner with my high school BFF who winters in St Augustine. It’s such a beautiful place and so well preserved.
Enjoy your holidays!

Next year, I would skip the pontoon and do the fancy catamaran. But it was fun all the same. We are sadly having huge problems with the infrastructure and flooding right now. It’s so sad but all the pipes and sewers are sooo old.

A busy and fun week for you. Hopefully you are all done with being sick for a while. Your hubs looks good! I am glad to see you sticking w your gym workouts too. Have such a Merry Christmas!

I hope so, too.
He’s been very diligent about his diet and activity. Fortunately, it seems to be working.

It’s not great that A got sick, but it is good he seemed to recover quickly.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Yes, we are grateful. It would have been an awful Christmas, otherwise.

The holidays are always the perfect storm of creativity and excitement, along with stress and anxiety-you nailed it. I love Christmas so, so much, and then the last week is always an exhausting crunch. I have to keep reminding myself “I love this!” We have people coming over today, and then tomorrow will be a super relaxing day.
Nice job on keeping up the workouts this week. And, I’m so glad A was well enough to go back to school and play his concert! I hope you guys have an amazing Christmas!

Correct! We love this! My parents were over today and yesterday, and now A’s girlfriend is here. It’s really so swonderful. That poor kid was almost in tears when he thought he wouldn’t be able to play, so I”m glad it worked out.

It is everywhere and it is freaking me out. I don’t want any part of it. I’m just glad we all came through ok.
