And here we are, ending the year with December Runfessions on the last Fit Five Friday of 2023. It’s been a super fun year, and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead in 2024.
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
This December, I would runfess…
That I am closer and closer to skipping Saturday’s race. Sigh. I really wanted to go, but I’m also tired and we have so much to do before next week. It’s not 100% off the table, but it’s close.
Next up, I’ll runfess…
That I am loving this colder weather. It feels so good to not be sweating my butt off, and there is so much less effort involved in breathing cold air. Sweating is so overrated, so with temperatures in the 50s and blow, and reduced humidity, runs are way less of a slog. The current situation has come way early this year, and I hope it lasts for quite some time.
I’ll can runfess…
That I got new shoes for Christmas, but they weren’t a surprise. We were in Charleston for Thanksgiving when I got a text that Brooks Adrenaline 22s would be on sale for $79.99 for Black Friday. They had plenty of great colors in my size, so I told Mr. PugRunner that I was ordering them for him to give me as a gift. After all, I love getting running shoes as gifts, and it saved a step. They still have colors I like, so I may order another sale pair before I flip over to the 23s.
For my next runfession…
I’m getting kind of frustrated with my go-to brands for running clothes. It seems like every time I find something I like, it gets discontinued. I am on the hunt for sports bras and shorts. Athleta and Old Navy no longer make the bras I loved, and Target had the best running shorts, but they are sold out in all but two colors with no new options on the horizon. Ugh. Any suggestions?
Lastly, I runfess…
That I really hate New Year’s Eve. There’s so much pressure to have this big evening and stay up until midnight, and I just don’t love it. Growing up, I remember that we would make chips and dip and appetizers, watch a movie, have our champagne, and call it a night. Much as I love a fancy party, I feel like NYE parties get super sloppy super fast, and I hate being on the road or dealing the craziness. Sigh. I wish we could do something way more chill.

I started to really hate NYE when my kids were teens—even now it’s hard to let go of those worries of them being out and about, but this year my son is hosting friends at his house and my daughter has turned into a home body like me. We will be watching movies on our sofa!
I guess the decision on the race is if you’re more likely to regret not doing it or if it will make your day/weekend so stressful that it’s not worth it. There will be plenty of races in 2024!

I am so not a fan of dressing up and being out for NYE. That said, we’re having dinner and a show with friends on NYE, but rest assured we’ll be home well before the ball drops, just the way I like it. Enjoy that cool running weather while it lasts! Happy New Year!

We don’t do much for NYE! We have a pajama party with a friend and come home at 10. I’m OK with this!!
I hate when my faves get discontinued. I always buy extra when I find winners!
Happy New Year!

Skirt sports was my go to and it’s out of business. luckily I have a lot of clothes.
I bought myself new shoes for XMas.
I;m sure that yo will have other races that more convenient next year. Don’t stress.
NYE wil be quiet as I have to leave for NYC the next day (for work).

I’m actually really looking forward to 2024, starting with this weekend (NYE “Eve” for starters). I’m a night owl, so I don’t usually have any issues staying up past midnight. It got seasonally cold this week here, which I’m NOT a fan of, but it’s tolerable. I hope 2024 is a great year for you 🙂

I’m not much of a fan of being out and about on NYE. We’re keeping it low-key at home.
Looks like you have ideal running weather right now – I hope it lasts for you!

Yep, I don’t love NYE and this year I will finally be living my dream. My daughter is on the band trip, my husband will be working and my son is going out with friends. This means I will be HOME IN MY PAJAMAS READING A BOOK. I may even go to bed early! This makes me very happy.
It must be cold up there, because it’s even “cold” down here! We have some nights in the 40s coming up (brrrr!) I’m loving it.
Hope your New Year’s turns out to be fun???
