More than most, these weekends are for travel. From Orlando to New Orleans, I’m certainly getting in my steps and my miles. It’s exciting and fun, and I’m enjoying every minute!
Sunday
- Cardio: 2.24 miles, walking
After Saturday’s success, I didn’t feel it super necessary to prove anything on Sunday. I had a modest walk, and then popped into the car to head to Meghan’s!
I made fantastic time, and we loaded up for Sea World! The weather was chilly, and we didn’t do any rides, but we visited all the sea creatures!
And we even got to feed these chonks!
In case you missed it, we also went to Kavas and ordered the 3 foot taco board! It was perfect.
In January style, it was a long day, and we both called it a night fairly early.
Monday
- Cardio: 2.56 miles, walking
Of course, we went for our traditional walk, followed by The Salty for donuts and coffee.
I arrived home right around lunch time, and was just about to settle in for a chill afternoon of work, when we got word that our new washing machine would be delivered first thing on Tuesday morning.
Yikes.
Fortunately, I’m a proactive potato and already had the new paint on hand. I transitioned quickly to DIY mode, and painted the entire laundry room, scrubbed the gross floor (how do you get under the machines to clean?) and basically collapsed into dinner and bed. Sigh.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.06 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
It was good to be out for a nice walk, and even better to get in some weights at the gym. Much as I complain, I do like feeling strong.
Are you laughing at my drastic wardrobe changes? It’s ok. We have no idea what the weather is doing, either.
The washer came and was installed. Now we just have to give the go-ahead for the shelf construction! I’m excited.
I worked the rest of the day, and then attended a meeting in the evening.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 7 miles, running + 1.29 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
It was cold, so I slept in a little before heading out to run. It was a good one. I ran five miles straight, and another two with intervals.
Instead of going to the gym, I headed to my nail appointment. Yay for this fresh set!
Then it was all the errands. I picked up the kids from school, and only then did I get to the gym. It was weird going at night, and while it wasn’t crowded, I didn’t enjoy the vibe. Mornings are more my speed.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.95 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
J was finally up to try some running, so we tossed in a Couch to 5K session. It was freezing cold, but it all felt great, and I was so happy to have her back!
Leg day at the gym. It didn’t feel very challenging today, which was disappointing, but what can you do?
And then I spent the day packing, cleaning, tidying, and organizing. We have an EARLY flight in the morning.
Friday
- Cardio: 1 mile, walking (plus more)
Even without a morning run, it was an EARLY morning. Of course, that doesn’t matter when your next stop is adventure!
We arrived in New Orleans, and our first order of business was packet pickup! Check!
From there, we walked a bit of the city, and hit up some fun spots. I love getting to stretch my legs in new places.
Dinner, drinks, and bed. It was a long day and we had an early morning.
Saturday
- Cardio: Mardi Gras 5K
State #10 done and dusted! We are marking Louisiana off the list! I am now 20% finished with my 50 States goal! Spoiler alert: it was faster than last week!
Our plans for the rest of the day went a little sideways. There was supposed to be a family Mardi Gras festival at the race location but incoming rain meant that they postponed some things. Boo. So we ubered back to our hotel and figured out next steps.
While it’s not Mardi Gras DAY it’s very much Mardi Gras SEASON and our hotel is one block off the parade route. Despite the drizzle, we decided to catch some of the parade and then go to lunch.
We caught a ton of beads and finally had to drag ourselves away for po boys and cocktails.
By the time we finished, it was POURING. It was also at a point where the museums we wanted to visit were close to closing so we ubered back to the hotel for a nap. Sigh.
at that point, we also got a flash flood warning. From our window, we could see the street was actually a river! Yikes! I ended up just chilling in the room while Mr PugRunner went down to dinner and brought me something up. My stomach was a little off: rich foods and drink, coupled with my travel anxiety and the weather… well, I just needed a salad and some rest.
Thoughts + Goals
This was a tricky week. There was so much going on, and I’m a bit overstimulated by it all. Sometimes, you just need a break.
With that in mind, I’m so grateful for all the opportunities I have to go new places and see new things. Travel and exploration is such a part of who I am, and it makes my soul happy to head out on adventures like this.
Now it’s back to real life and finishing that laundry room reno!
And while I didn’t get to watch the marathon trials, what a showing, we are doing to have an awesome team in Paris!
How was your week in training? Do you find the vibe of your gym or fitness center changes based on time?

I didn’t get to watch the Olympic trials either, as I was running a race. Such a good excuse, am I right?
Looks like you had so much fun in New Orleans! The rain didn’t stop you from having a good time. Congrats on your race!
runswithpugs says
The best excuse! Go us!
This is the first time I’ve sort of let myself fully go in quite some time.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
So fun. I went to New Orleans before I was a runner.
Congrats. Post Injury PR. Love it!
And yes. The gym is the best early before all the regulars arrive.
runswithpugs says
I went to New Orleans right out of college, and remember very little. My record has not improved LOL.
It was a good PR.
Melodie says
Sea World looks fun! I remember going there on a trip when I was a little girl! That taco board! Looks so good. Yay for getting your new washing machine! Love the nails. Glad you had a good race and a fun trip!
runswithpugs says
I do love Sea World. I always wanted to be a marine biologist and dolphin behavioralist and this is as close as I’m ever going to get. All the trips were so fun!
Coco says
Wow and congrats on another great race! It’s looking like 2024 is going to be a great year for you!
It’s probably good that leg day was easy so they had more to give!
runswithpugs says
Truth! I’m a little nervous about working out and running tomorrow – I had a rather large animal step down on my foot, so I’m not sure how that’s going to go LOL.
Jenny says
Wow, you really did a LOT this week! Congrats on the race (I love your race shirt), and I hope the rest of your trip is fun. I did watch the trials (or rather, my husband recorded it for me while I was at work) and I loved it- but I’m obviously getting old because our US team looks SO YOUNG to me!!!
Yes, going to the gym at a different time feels weird. I NEVER go at night! Morning is definitely my time.
runswithpugs says
They are so young! But we aren’t old, either! Yeah, nighttime gym is a huge thumbs down from me.
Deborah Brooks says
OMG that taco board! How fun! Looks like a great week of fun and travel and racing. New Orleans is fun
runswithpugs says
The tacos were sheer heaven!
And New Orleans is so fun!
Kimberly Hatting says
Busy week, indeed! NOLA looks like a fun place to visit, especially during Mardi Gras season. Congrats on the race 😉
runswithpugs says
One of the most fun places ever!
Melissa says
Great job staying active even with a wacky week. I can’t imagine NOLA during Mardi GRas – how fun! We went there for a girls trip 8 years ago now but I’d love to go back sometime. That taco board looks amazing!!
runswithpugs says
We were so unprepared! It was great, but all our plans went right out the window as we followed parades and just sort of wandered. It was a great time, though!
Debbie says
I would be all over that 3-foot taco board and those margaritas! How fun to share it with Meghan.
Congrats on crossing another state off your list. Glad you had a great race and I love the shirts you made!
runswithpugs says
OMG it was all fabulous.
I totally didn’t make the shirts! I found them online and thought they were fun!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Wow, yummy tacos!! Sounds like a fun race too. Congrats on another state! You sure did have a busy week. Hope the laundry room project left you some time to relax!
runswithpugs says
I’m so glad to have #10 done!
The laundry room continues. It’s painted and the new machine is there, but now I need the shelving. Sigh.
Jessie says
Looks like an incredibly fun week Jenn! Ha, a 3 foot taco board. amazing!
Congrats on the race!
runswithpugs says
I mean. Tacos. That is all I need to say.
