I don’t know about you but January and February both felt so long. And now we are in the third month of the year, with academic quarter three about to close, and Spring Break upon us. How can this be? Let’s see what happened last week in our Weekly Rundown!
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.93 miles, walking
Sunday was devoted to pet sitting. I had my main client, and then I had to head out to my parents’ house to check in on their cats while they were out of town. As long as I am spending time with animals, I’m pretty happy, especially if at least one of those animals prefers long walks!
I didn’t get home until dinner time, which was fine – ultimately, I had a nice day full of dog and cat snuggles and that was perfect.
Monday
- Cardio: 7.11 miles, running
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
Happy Monday! I slept in a little bit, but then got my butt in gear. I do school drop offs on Mondays so I have a hard time to be home. It was a good run.
And I was super excited to test out my new Flamboyance ’24 Goodrs: Neon Is My Natural. These start out white, but change color in daylight!
The gym went well, too. I noticed this week that my assignments are pumping up my weights a little bit. On the one hand, boo. But on the other, I guess the app sees that I am getting stronger and making progress.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 4.28 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Normally, I do some Couch to 5K with J, but I had a hot spot on the underside of my arch. Was it from walking a dog three miles in leather sandals? I’ll never tell. She was super kind about it and let me take a break.
There was a lot going on in the schedule, which is never fun. We had an evening meeting, which I didn’t love either – I really prefer my nights to be chill.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3 miles, running + 2.87 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs
My foot felt much better, so I let myself stretch out with three miles of a run, and then some follow up walking. Since it’s Gate River Run week, I thought it was smart to just step back on the miles anyway. There will be 9.3 of them on Saturday.
And yes, the temps are climbing. You can practically see it!
I went to the gym late, rocked out a difficult shoulder and back workout, and then went to have lunch/work remotely. Wednesdays are good for that.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.9 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
I was feeling much better and so J and I had a great session of Couch to 5K. It was Leap Day, so of course, a jumping photo was necessary.
It was also my last day at the gym for the week, which was really nice. I am always so happy when the gym is done!
Mr PugRunner and I headed up to the Jacksonville Fairgrounds for the Gate River Run Expo. It opened at noon on Thursday, and we were part of the first people to pickup. From what I understand, it got more hectic and congested through the end of the week, so we made the right call going early. It’s also worth noting that this is the first year in my memory that all events sold out!
Once I was home, I really dug into my to-do list. I wanted a clear weekend, and sometimes that means we just have to push through.
Friday
- Cardio: 4.91 miles, walking
I met up with J again, but we just chose to walk, so that I could rest my legs a little. it was nice.
What was even nicer? Our handyman came by to install our counter and shelves in the laundry room! I am going to stain all the wood next weekend and then get it organized! I absolutely love it (not the mismatched appliances, but that will change in a few months). Project Purge and Organize is moving along beautifully!
But there was more going on!
I packed our race bag and set out my flat runner.
And then we headed south to see A’s wind ensemble perform at District MPAs. Their playing time was 8:30 PM (40 minutes away!!!!), but they were incredible and earned straight Superior, and a bid to States. Worth it.
Saturday
- Cardio: Gate River Run 15K
And so Gate Day arrived. Was the weather absolute trash? Yes. It was humid and hot, but the rain held off, so that was a plus.
It was not my best race, but it was my best since my injury, which is good enough for me.
Obviously, we will have a race report on Wednesday.
Thoughts + Goals
So now, the big race is finished… where do we go from here?
Well, I have the Raptor Run 3K next Sunday, and then I think I will give a small break until the Spud Run 10K.
Spring Break is coming, too, so I am looking forward to a little down time. A and I are planning on a day of shopping and errands, and we will also do some fun things over break. That boy works hard, and deserves a little downtime.

Nice job with the race – coming back after an injury is sooo hard. I love the new laundry room shelves and can’t wait to see how every gets organized! I love and need inspiration.

I’ll be sanding the wood this week! A little backwards, but we got it done for a steal so I am making it work.
Wendy says
Congrats on the race! You’ve been running really strong since your injury. I’m sure this makes you happy!
Enjoy some time with your boy!

It makes me happy. I”m not going to pretend that it’s super speedy, but I feel good, and that’s what counts.
Darlene S Cardillo says
I need those Goodrs… well, not need since I have a zillion pairs but love that they change colors.
Congrats on a good race. Can’t wait to read about it.
I have had many injuries’ so I’m not sure what would be post-injury? LOL
runswithpugs says
OMG! I just got the cow ones! I can’t stop!
Even with all the injuries, you are doing so well! You have got to be proud of yourself!
Deborah Brooks says
Congrats on your race! Looks like the weather was not as bad as you expected. Looking forward to reading the recap.
runswithpugs says
It wasn’t great, but we made it work!
Coco says
I’m glad the rain held off for your race so it wasn’t the worst weather.
I was listening to a running coach say would should treat different stages of our running “careers” separately, whether you are coming back after pregnancy, or an injury, or time off for any reason, treat it as a new stage and celebrate the progress you make instead of trying to “get back” to where you were.
runswithpugs says
I really love this concept. I’m a different person/runners since 2020, and I am really leaning into it. It feels good to make these kinds of gains, and I like being able to compartmentalize them a little. The one thing I did notice is that I have felt more capable of pushing through pain and discomfort than in the past. I used to just let myself slack, but this race, I kept pushing. I like this about myself.
Jenny says
Congratulations! A strong run in the heat and humidity is not an easy thing. i’m looking forward to the race recap.
And congrats to A and his band! Will they be going to State? Our MPA isn’t for another couple of weeks, but the band is ready- they should do well. When is spring break? We have nothing planned so far, except on one of the days Angie is taking her solo to State (luckily it’s not too far away this year.)
The laundry room looks so nice! If it were me, I would be able to turn a blind eye to the mismatched appliances- but I’m weird that way.
runswithpugs says
I don’t know if they will get to go to State. They are eligible and invited, but our district just doesn’t have a lot of funding. We are going to MFA at the Dr. Phillips Center in April, which they are more excited about. Good luck to Angie and her band! A absolutely passed on the solo… he has basically every clarinet (and some sax) solos, but he just bailed on MPA this year.
The mismatched does bother me, but it’s better with the shelves. I will make do.
Melodie says
That is great you are starting to up your weights! Your laundry room is looking great. I am so glad the rain held off for your race, but I am sure the humidity was not fun. Looking forward to your race report!
runswithpugs says
The humidity was rough. You should have heard the announcer before the run! This race is a tough one because it has a large bridge at mile 1, and then a second one at mile 7.5 (there is a secondary race where a prize goes to the person who runs the downhill mile to the finish line the fastest). The announcer was like ” be careful… stop at every water stop… the heat on that last bridge is going to chew you up and spit you out.” Talk about positive thinking.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m glad the rain held off for your race…although a sprinkling (NOT a downpour, LOL)may have felt refreshing in the heat. Congrats on the race!
runswithpugs says
For the record, I also avoided spectators with hoses wetting the runners down. It just makes me feel wet and gross. Even worse than sweat lol.
Debbie says
That’s fantastic that the rain held off for your race, even if it was warm and muggy. Although, sometimes it’s more tolerable if it rains to cool things off.
Your laundry room looks great! Don’t you just love getting organized?
runswithpugs says
Not here it doesn’t. Florida rain is always just steamy and makes everything moist. We are basically living in a rain forest.
I do love being organized!
Jessie says
Congratulations on the race! looks like such a fun time.
Love the new shelves! That will be so nice. All the organization must feel incredible!
runswithpugs says
Thank you! We had a great time!
And thanks! I’m staining and sealing this weekend!
