March Runfessions are up on the Fit Five Friday linkup, and we are here for it! How was this month so long and so short all at once? I’m here to share some secrets from my soul (or “sole”), and I hope you’ll join us and do the same!
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
First, I’ll Runfess…
That I was not amazing in the gym this month. Normally, I go four days a week, but I stepped that back on more than one occasion. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but I had achy days and tired days, and I just didn’t want to. Even as I write this, I’m procrastinating on going because my glutes are sore. It’s hard being “dedicated.”
Next, I Runfess…
That there are quite a few races I have my eye on in the next few months. Our weekend are pretty booked going forward, but I am squeezing them in as I can. I have one I asked for in lieu of an Easter basket (candy is great, but races are better), the Spud Run 10K, a 5K for my birthday, and the Memorial Day 5K, as tradition. This will keep me busy through the end of school.
I Would Have To Runfess…
That this weather is cramping my mood. We had this really fun event scheduled for Wednesday night, and it was postponed due to the storms. Yes, I sulked, although it was the correct call. But the dreary days make it hard to get up and get moving, and also, rainy runs are not my thing by a long shot, so these storms have got to go.
My Next Runfession Is…
That I probably need new shoes, and I’m debating on which model to get. I am a Brooks Adrenaline GTS lover, and the current shoe is the 23. However, there are still plenty of 22s online in my size and in colors that I like. Here’s the dilemma: the newer models are $140 and the older ones are $89.95. I like the 22s just fine, but I also really want to get my foot in some 23s. But that price difference…
And My Final Runfession Is…
I realized I have a big virtual run coming up in May! Somehow, it totally slipped my mind! Whoops! It’s 10 miles, and I am super excited about it, but I also need to start prepping for that distance. After the 15K at Gate, I have been going a little shorter. I am registered for a 10K at the end of April, but need to make sure I’m up for the extra four miles!
Do you buy the sale shoe or the newer model? Every forget about a race? What do you have to runfess?

Oh I feel you on the shoe dilemma! So many cute colors are out now. So, I am the wrong person to talk you out of them. Hope your weather improves!

I always go with the older model on sale! And I’m not too picky about colors, so I’ll always take the cheapest option. I figure, I’ll end up getting the newer one eventually.
I think you still made it to the gym a few times a week this month? That’s WAY better than no strength training at all! I think you did well.
You have a lot of races coming up! And the virtual 10 miler sounds really fun. Can’t wait to hear all about it!

For shoes, I stock up on old ones and look for sales on the new ones. I just got 20% off on new Saucony Endorphin Speeds from REI.
Good luck with your training!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Get the ones on sale! Eventually, the 23s will be on sale so you can then buy those.

I’d go for the sale price on the older model but I’m cheap that way!
I think you’re being hard on yourself about the gym. 4 days is a lot to commit to. They want us in the office 4 days a week and I strive for 3 😉

I usually go with the older sale-priced model IF it’s a model that’s been a great fit. I went through four of the Adrenaline-18’s (which got me through a couple of years), but I have not “loved” the later ones. The 22’s were a big disappointment for me, unfortunately 🙁

Looks like you’ve got some fun races coming up!
The new model vs old model debate is a tough one for sure. If I really love the older model then I like to take advantage of the sales. Like Kim the 22s were not a win for me and now I’m on the fence about the 23s.
Marcia says
Yeah I’d be buying the sale shoes. I cannot pass up a good deal! I love that you’re considering Memorial Day races. Summer will be here before we know it! Yay!
