Running friends are the best friends. Period, full stop. No, really. They are. Running friends are the ones who keep you going and push you to new goals, and today, I’d love to give them their due.
Running Friends Support You
No one offers support like a running friend. Chances are you’ve vented to each other during workouts, and you know the good, bad, and ugly about each other from long hours logging miles. Not only do they understand the ups and downs of the sport, they also provide an awesome shoulder to cry on when needed. On your hardest day, through injury, and when you just don’t think you can find the energy to push through, they’ve got you.
You’re Never Alone When You Have Running Friends
Unless you want to be by yourself, your running friends have your back out there. It’s nice to know that whenever you want to log those miles, at least one running friend will show up for you. From before sunrise to after sunset, they will be with you. They’ll even be with you when you just want to have iced coffee at the finish line.
Running Friends Cheer You On!
While your non-running friends surely support you, your running friends really understand the full depth of things like PRs, negative splits, and placing on the podium. It’s awesome to have that enthusiasm from cheerleaders in the know, and it’s always awesome to share victories with these people.
Your Running Friends Can Convince You To Try New Things
I often joke that the reason I signed up for marathon is because a bunch of us were drinking wine and said something like “it would be super fun if…” and the rest is history. The fun part is debatable, but I never would have attempted to run 26.2 miles without the peer pressure. For your consideration, the time I went camping for the first time ever and ran a Ragnar Trail relay. Madness.
Running Friends Can Help You See New Places
Whether they come to you or you go to them, you always have somewhere to run when you have running friends. This is extra important when you are someone who wants to run all 50 states, and also loves getting to see new places! Where am I headed next? I’m open to ideas!
