It’s here! It’s here! Autumn is here! Friends, this is my TIME! Yes, it’s still hot as anything outside, but pumpkin spice is in the air, corn mazes are opening, spooky decorations are going up, and everything is right in my world.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.93 miles, walking
I was kind of worn out, but I couldn’t keep myself from jumping on the beautiful morning. Also, check out the mud all over my shoes: the rain has been awful and the puddles are gross.
I dragged around the house for most of the day, until we were ready to leave for Beetlejuice 2! I was so excited to see it and although I tried to keep my expectations in check, I couldn’t help setting a high bar. It was nowhere near as good as the first, and I have a lot of opinions, but there were so many great moments and performances. I’ll watch Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara in just about anything, so there was that.
Monday
- Cardio: 3.67 miles, running + 3.01 miles, walking
- Strength: Shoulders and chest, 30 minutes
Happy Monday! Let’s get into it! I started with some running and some walking. There was a storm to work around. Check out those clouds.
I made it to the gym, as well. As I mentioned, they are putting in a lot of new equipment, called “E-Gym.” In order to use it, you need a training session and a bracelet. My appointment isn’t until next week, so I’ll have more to share, but in the meantime, I had to do my chest and shoulders on the floor with free weights. Annoying.
But then I filled up my new ghost candy jars, and aren’t they cute?
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.6 miles, running
I met up with J, after several days off, and it was nice to have a friend on the road again. The run felt quick since we spent most of it, just catching up on life. And here’s a photo of the pugs, because they are too cute.
Lots of work to finish today, too. I was chained to the laptop for most of the day.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.02 miles, running
And we are at the halfway point for the week. I was glad for it. Once again, the stormy days are just getting super annoying and depressing. Enough.
It is nice to be out with the sunrise, though.
In the afternoon, I went to my poll worker refresher course. There was a lot of information to cover. We had a 23% turnout for the primaries and we are expecting 85% in November. There will be lines, and at the need for a lot of patience. It’s a little nervewracking, but I’m also looking forward to it, and hopeful that I am able to snag one of the longer early voting shifts.
Thursday
- Cardio: 6.31 miles, running
I was super excited for Thursday, even if we did get stuck in the rain. I just fixed that ponytail and kept on going.
But even better than a run? Spooky craft night! J came over so we could make ghost pumpkins and clay ghosts! Of course, I had to make apple cider cocktails and a grilled cheese board for the occasion!
We had a great time, and our pumpkins came out so cute! The ghosts are adorable, too, but we still have some painting and drying to do.
Friday
- Cardio: 4.26 miles, walking
At some point on Thursday, I think I tweaked my sciatic nerve on the left side and I was HURTING. By morning, I was feeling much better, but decided to just take a walk instead of pushing for a run. Was I frustrated? Yup. But such is life.
The kids had off from school, and it was A’s girlfriend’s birthday! He took her to the beach to watch the sunrise, asked her to HoCo, and then I met them at a local cat cafe for coffee and kitties. We are a dog house, but I wanted to put this little nugget in my purse.
Then they went off to paint pottery and I worked and prepped dinner so A could cook. She said it was a great day <3
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.97 miles, walking
It was going to be a busy day, so let’s start! I got up early for a walk with my new socks from Jogology. I tried quarter length for the first time, and didn’t hate them.
I had to go shoot some content for a client, and then it was off to Ponte Vedra to pick up my race packet for Sunday’s 5K. Initially, I planned to get it Sunday morning, but an email came through, requiring everyone to pick up on Saturday. It wasn’t super convenient, but what can you do? There was actually a nice little expo set up, but I didn’t have time to enjoy the vendors.
That being said, the swag bag was super nice, and I got my flat runner all set up.
I came home, started some loaves of bread, and tried to get everything in order for tomorrow.
Thoughts + Goals
With all that going on, the week was hard. On Monday, there was a credible threat at our school, leading to the arrest of a student. Similar threats hit several middle schools and high schools over two days, with similar results, and a more generic threat went out later in the week, targeting a variety of schools throughout the state. It’s awful and scary and my heart has been in my throat all week. As a result, I’ve been laying low and using my energy to try to stay positive.
I’m excited to have a race tomorrow. It will be in a new area, too, which I like. I don’t know if it will be a great one for me, but that’s ok.
Oh, and there might be a hurricane coming. There’s been something brewing near the Yucatan for a while and this week might see it come to fruition. It’s been a weird hurricane season, so I’m hopeful it will sort of spin itself out before it begins, but you just never know.

Oh wow, I’m so sorry about the threats at school, that is so so scary…I can imagine so stressful for you.
In brighter news…a grilled cheese board! Sounds right up my alley, grilled cheese and tomato soup is one of my favorite meals ever 🙂 Love your holiday spirit Jen!

It’s just awful. Some of it is kids doing stupid things to get out of school or to “show off” on social media. Some of it is kids who actually have plans to hurt others. I hate it and I don’t know how to solve the problem.
The grilled cheese board was awesome. It was supposed to have three kinds of sandwiches but I did two (cheddar on hawaiian rolls with a garlic herb butter and swiss on marble rye) because there weren’t that many of us eating.

That is just frightening, the threats at schools. I can’t even get my head around it. I’m glad nothing bad happened.
Soon we’ll be complaining about wintery weather and you’ll be enjoying some nice temperatures! Patience, my friend!
runswithpugs says
I can’t wait for those wintery posts!
Jenny says
Ugh, the weather. And what’s this about a hurricane? We’ve been lucky so far- I had heard this was going to be an active season. All we’ve had is a crap ton of rain.
I hate that our kids have to go through metal detectors and have to worry about being shot at school. Glad everything turned out okay this week.
What I love about this post is your autumn enthusiasm- I am here for it!!! Now all we need is some fall weather and we’ll be all set.

Take a look at Invest 97. It’s been circulating as sort of a nothing for the past week, but now it has something to say. I’m not about it.
Kimberly Hatting says
Those threats are really scary, and they just seem to be getting worse. I love the idea of that grilled cheese board! That would be fun for football game watching (not that I know much about that…)!
runswithpugs says
Haha! It was a really fun and easy way to have a quick dinner, and there are so many things you could do: warm breadsticks, croutons, mozzarella cheese sticks…
They are getting worse and it’s absolutely upsetting 🙁

The school threats are so scary!! I am sorry that you all have that stress. You did get in lots of steps this week. Hope you had fun at the race

I really try to compartmentalize but I’m not always successful. It’s awful. The race was great.

Oh man, what is it with the school threats right now? What is happening? I am so sorry you have to go through this. My sister is a teacher (albeit in Germany where you don’t have to worry about gun threats) but it makes me anxious for all you school workers out there.
runswithpugs says
It’s just so awful. I can’t even imagine what goes through everyone’s heads when they announce a lockdown.
marica says
Oh so that’s where all the rain is! We’ve had drought conditions for some time now, although yesterday we finally had a good downpour. The threats at school are so scary. We live in dangerous times. I am loving your Halloween spirit!
runswithpugs says
It will be dry for a few days and then more weather is coming. Boooo!
Stacie Seidman says
The school threats are so upsetting. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. They’re happening up here too, mostly they are kids trying to get a day off, but still. You never know, and it’s terrifying.
Looks like that storm is trying to head your direction. I hope it fizzles out. Stay safe!
runswithpugs says
I know. But it’s so stressful and sad all the same.
I don’t think we are going to get much of anything from the storm but my heart breaks for the west coast and panhandle.
