First, Happy Easter! We are celebrating a quiet weekend, and enjoying it.
One would think that the start of April might bring a bit of consistency from the weather gods, but no. That is not to be. Instead, we swung from high 80s with 100% humidity to 40s with FROST!!!! What? I mean, I’m not surprised that something as simple as weather would be so screwed up in 2021, but still.
However, the training must go on, so here we go!
Sunday – March To Get Screened 5K
We had March To Get Screened on Sunday. Race report is here. It was a fabulous morning!
We spent most of Sunday afternoon at A’s volunteer event. It ended up being such a successful event all around. I think we were all more than ready to collapse into bed after a super fulfilling weekend.
Monday – 5.11 miles, walking
I was really sore and tired from being on my feet all weekend, so I decided to take a pass on my usual Monday speedwork. Originally, I had still planned on the bridge and beach for a walk, but when I finally rolled out of bed, it was cold, windy, and overcast. Time for Plan B. I drove about 15 minutes to another neat neighborhood, where I put down about five miles.
In the meantime, A completed a virtual 5K for his virtual school on the treadmill. Well done, buddy!
And then came our appointment. Our vaccine appointment, that is. We preregistered last week, and had a confirmed appointment within 24 hours. I addressed this a little in our Fit Five Friday Coffee Date, but it was a very smooth and very easy process. We have our second dose scheduled for three weeks from now.
We took it easy the rest of the day, even ordering in sushi for dinner. Neither one of us experienced side effects other than fatigue and a bit of soreness, so that was a relief.
Tuesday – 5.01 miles, running + 1.02 miles, walking
I slept well, and got up for our planned run. Everything felt perfectly fine, except for a little soreness still, but that was fine.
I confess to feeling a little bit of mild nausea that afternoon. It didn’t last, and it wasn’t too bad, which was good, because A had a Court of Honor that evening and I wanted to go. He and another Scout emcee’d the whole event, which was so incredible. Public speaking is such a vital skill, and I’m so glad he is becoming comfortable with it at a young age.
Wednesday – 4.16 miles, walking
Thing were really starting to warm up by midweek. It felt like summer was back in Florida for real. It didn’t stop me from walking, but it was a slog for sure.
We had the house power washed and called it a day.
Thursday – 5.01 miles, running, 1.86 miles, walking + 1.23 miles, hiking
Another sweltering run. I don’t miss the humidity in winter. I really don’t.
Interestingly, as the run went on, the temperatures cooled. This was great because we had a hike planned for the afternoon and it’s so much more pleasant when it’s chilly.
We saw the blooming rose gardens, and even dolphins in the river.
That night, our BSA District held its awards dinner. Our Troop was fortunate to take home several honors, which I loved tot see. I was also so humbled to receive an award as well.
Friday – 4.2 miles, walking
I slept in. Two nights out, plus tons of fresh air, plus lots of work and school supervision leads to a very tired Jenn. Plus, it was cold out. Again. So no need to beat the sun for a walk.
Mr PugRunner was home for the day, so we sort of just ran our errands, and prepped for Easter. Nothing fancy or exciting, but it was nice to spend the time together, getting stuff done.
Saturday – 11 miles, running + .84 miles, walking
Moment of truth, everyone! Ten miles was getting comfortable, so I decided to go for 11. Could I do it? YES! For some reason, it was a tougher run (complete with bathroom breaks and an extra walk break), but J ran her longest distance at 8.3 miles and I got my 11. Half marathon, here I come!
There was no time to celebrate! My parents came over to celebrate Easter, and we had the the loveliest time with them. Good food, good drinks, and time together is where it’s at.
Goal-getting
I’m a bit happier with my week. Strength training should be making a comeback shortly, as I have a new plan coming down the pike. I’m also struggling for an April race, but we will see what I can make happen.
Now that we have reached Easter, I have to turn my sights to A’s birthday. He is going to be 13!!! What? How did that happen? In normal times, we totally would have rocked out with a big trip, but I think we will do some Top Golf and have some of his friends camp in the yard. Maybe we can go somewhere a little later in the year. We will see.
How’s your spring skincare routine going? Now is a great time to stock up on some of your favorite FRÉ items. The Purify Me is, hands down, my favorite cleanser, and it has done wonders for my skin, even with all the crazy weather. From now through April 5, you can save 30% on some of your FRÉ favorites, as well as 10% when you use my code (affiliate link): https://www.freskincare.com/JENNL
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training?
Did you have a nice Easter, if you celebrate? Any big celebrations coming up?
Any half marathons I should keep my eye on? I want to come back with a fun one!

Great work this week! We also had both sunshine and frost – and both together this morning! Well done on all your achievements and for getting your vaccines. We both had the AstraZeneca on last Saturday – we both felt rough for 24 hours or so but nothing too major – I didn’t feel up to running until Tuesday, however. I’m a bit jealous of your badge (button)!
Jessie says
Congrats on your son’s 5k! That’s great.
What a lovely week! Yay for the vaccine! I got my first Pfizer this week as well. I love your orange and red outfit from your run- like a colorful sunrise!
Woohoo on 10 miles 🙂 That must have felt great.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Congrats on 11 miles! You are totally ready for a half now! Our weather was really all over the place this week. I’m hoping spring is here for good now.
Jenny says
Ah, your son is going to be a teenager! Eek! My daughter is close behind- she’s twelve but I feel like she’s been a teenager for a couple years already.
Yes, weird weather week here in Florida! Friday morning it was 55- I headed out in a tank top and came right back in to put on long sleeves- it wasn’t just cool, but windy! So strange for April.
Sounds like you had a great week- I also got my first shot! Things are looking up!
Deborah Brooks says
You all certainly keep busy down there. It’s nice that your son seems to be able to do so many of his activities safely. All of our races are moved to the fall here and I think I am now ok with that. I am not ready to be in a big swarm of people yet. Glad you got your shot!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Congrats – 11 miles WooHoo!.
Happy to hear about the vaccine and no side effects.
Nothing big for Easter.. just a family dinner although with COVID that is big, I guess.
Come up North – Cape Cod in Sept!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Yay for 11 !!! I’m excited for your half.
I’ve heard a lot of smack talk about Peeps lately but I think that everyone can approve of your use as a garnish for a yummy cocktail. What’s in that pretty drink?
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
What a great week! Due to travel, we waited until Saturday to shop for Easter stuff. We had to go to 4 stores to find chocolate bunnies! What a fun looking drink you made. Congrats on the 11 miles. What a great comeback!
Coco says
is that a Peeps cocktail? So fun! Congrats again on the race, and the vaccine — and to A for running 5K on the treadmill — that’s not easy!
Happy Easter!
Michelle D. says
Congrats on reaching 11 miles! And congrats to your son on his 5K!
And how great to have gotten your first shot! We still don’t have any races in this area – I think it won’t be until the late summer or early fall before in-person racing returns. I hope you find a half marathon to run – sounds like you’re ready!
Renée @runlaugheatpie says
11 miles!! you did it!!
Good week all in all. A lot going on, plus the shot – I can imagine you were also a little fatigued.
Well done to A on his 5K!! And I said it on Friday’s post but congrats again on your well deserved award!
Stacie E Seidman says
You guys are having New England weather down there! You know, one minute it’s freezing, the next it’s hot… Nice work getting all the miles in!
A is so tall!
Yay for your first dose! I got mine last week too! One step closer to a more normal life.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Sounds l8me a great week for everyone on a variety of levels. Heat & humidity is never fun.
Nice job on 11 miles! Seriously that seems so far to me now.

Great job on the 11-miler! My 10 miles felt easier than anticipated, and that was with jumping from 8 miles. Now…13.1 happening in 13 days 😉
runswithpugs says
Yay! We don’t have any half marathons in town until fall, so if I’m not traveling, I might just have to wait. Which is fine, but I want to do something big!
Marcia says
Way to get 11! That is awesome. I’d say you’re definitely half marathon ready! It was in the teens here last week, but I’m more surprised how cold it got down in your neck of the woods. Enough already!
How exciting to have an almost teenager in the house! We’ve got 3 nieces and a nephew graduating this year. I’m not sure yet what the celebrations will look like but it’s going to be a busy spring.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Do I see a Peeps cocktail? That’s equally amazing and hilarious! We had a wonderful Easter! I was sad not to go to mass in person, but I’m thankful for watching virtually each week. Our son and daughter-in-law hosted Easter in their new home. It was perfect!
Congrats to A on all of his accomplishments. He’s having quite a year and you much be so proud. Congrats also on 11 miles. Look how far you’ve come since your ankle break!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Public speaking is hard. That is great that your son is comfortable with it. Humidity sucks. It is just horrible. 🙂 Congrats on your 11 miles!!!
runswithpugs says
It is hard, and I love that he has the opportunity to get comfortable with it.
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
That cold front was like woah! But I loved it! It was excellent running weather this weekend! We won’t get many of those left so I really wanted to take advantage of it while I could.
We don’t really do anything for Easter these days. We used to go to my grandmother’s house and my entire family would gather but that stopped when COVID hit. Now that everyone is getting vaccinated I’m hoping we can do it in 2022. It would be nice to see the entire family again!
