This week. I mean. Seriously, this week. The chaos is out of control and I am really in need of a break or a nap or something. Miles and fitness were a little lacking with everything going on, but that’s just how it is sometimes. Let’s see how things went down.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.2 miles, walking
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to really enjoy the day. I went out for a walk.
And then we made our way to the Flower & Garden Expo for a dAy of volunteering with the Scouts. A hasn’t been as involved because of scheduling, but this is our big, annual troop fundraiser so it was nice to get out there for a bit.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.05 miles, running + 2.23 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
Of course, every new week has to start with a run.
And I followed it up with a gym session.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 2.07 miles, running + 2.81 miles, walking
There was just enough time to meet J for some Couch to 5K.
And then I had a very needed hair appointment! Yay for fresh color and cut!
In the evening, I had conflicting meetings, and only made it to one of them. Frustrating to be sure, but overlaps happen sometimes.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 6.01 miles, running + 1.54 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Wednesday was a bit of a rush. I got my run and gym time in.
But then I had to head out to source some things for a job this weekend. Errands always eat up a ton of time, so that was tricky. I didn’t find everything I needed, which was a little frustrating, too.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.75 miles, running + 1.24 miles, walking
Thursday was a mess. I started strong with a run.
I bailed on the gym so I could have lunch with a friend, and then went to pick up the rest of my supplies for my job.
In the meantime, we got notification that A’s school had received a threat of violence through the anonymous reporting system. While law enforcement was on the case, there was no resolution by the time evening rolled around and we decided to let him stay home on Friday. I fluctuated between upset and angry that these are the things our kids have to face.
Then I gathered my things to head to another pet client. It was a super busy week for that. While I was there, I fell victim to the IG outage, and got logged out of several of my accounts. Ughhhh!
Friday
- Cardio: 2.52 miles, walking
Of course, I didn’t sleep great with the IG outage, and since J canceled on me for our run, I slept in, a little. Of course, my puppy client was perfectly happy with a rainy walk. so that’s what we did. I was hoping to get in a few more miles when I got home, but that’s not how it worked out. Sigh.
Once I got home, I immediately dove into work. Somehow, I agreed to help a local company with charcuterie boards, and of course, my first order was a huge one!
I really do love creating things with food, so I am happy with how this worked out.
Lastly, I was glued to the Barkley Marathons, and could barely function until I saw that Jasmin Paris touched the yellow gate, as the first woman to finish with 100 seconds to spare. Amazing.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.04 miles, walking + car washing, 2 hours
Fortunately, the forecasted storms passed us by and I was able to get my walk on.
I had just enough time to shower and change, so we could head to our band fundraiser car wash. The parents were in charge of washing this time, which was definitely a different take on the experience.
And then in the evening, A played at his high school pageant, while I volunteered to help.
What a day!
Thoughts + Goals
I hate weeks like this. There are so many moving parts, and it’s hard to keep pushing forward.
I didn’t get in nearly as much gym time or as many miles as I wanted. That frustrates me, but it will be fine. A little rest is always good, even if it’s not scheduled.
The end of the week was total fight or flight. I hate that our kids have to deal with threats at their school. Yes, I’m grateful for responsive admin and police, but the anxiety and stress these kids endure with lockdown drills and investigators/dogs on campus… it breaks my heart. They have a few days off this week so that helps ease us back into everything.
Onward and upward, right?
And the official word is that my charcuterie box was a huge hit and I may have another order! What a relief and how exciting!
How was your week in training? Did you get hit by the IG outage? Did you follow the Barkley Marathons?

We are living in a violent world and it makes me sad how it reached the kids. I recently completed a CME on raising resilient children and I think that is going to be very important going forward. I treat a lot of kids with anxiety in my practice, something that has steadily increased over the years. Of course, I prescribe exercise (and running!) as a way to help manage those feelings!
I hope the upcoming week is better for you.

That sounds like a valuable and interesting class. It’s sad, but this is all our kids know. Mine was in an actual hard lockdown in elementary school when a father stabbed his estranged wife and her friend to death and then went on the run. Kids in closets and bathrooms, police crawling everywhere, helicopters flying over the school… all of it. I have never been so terrified in my life (the murderer was caught hundreds of miles away, and is serving life in prison). They do the shooter drills and I just can’t imagine what kids must be thinking when we send them out every day into this world. At this point, I feel like everyone has anxiety, because how can you not?

Nice job even if you didn’t get in all the workouts you hoped. Looks like a productive week! That charcuterie box looks yummy– I am not good at organizing things like that so I’m always so impressed with those who do.

It’s really so much fun for me and I’m going to make a cute one for Easter!
Deborah Brooks says
I am sure it is so stressful to have high school kids nowadays. There is so much more to worry about. Really hope this week goes more smoothly for you all. Xoxo
runswithpugs says
It feels like it. Sure, you still have fights, and drugs, and bullying, but this on top of it is a whole different ball game. Fortunately, the threat was cleared, but I was on edge all weekend.
Melodie says
Love the charcuterie box! I am sorry you had a crazy week and hope this week is so much better! You still got in a lot of miles and some good workouts!
runswithpugs says
Thank you!

The threat of school violence is insane. I am so sorry A’s school had a threat. Of course it’s great that nothing happenned, but the stress is harmful on its own.
You have an artistic skill with charcuterie boards — no doubt you will have many happy customers!
Looks like you got in a lot of solid workouts — maybe you’re too hard on yourself with such a busy week!
runswithpugs says
It’s so upsetting. They are so used to it, but it can’t be good for them.
My client was really happy with the board, and I’m so grateful and relieved.
I just wish I was in the gym more. Next week is going to be rough.
Debbie says
Nice job on the charcuterie board. It looks amazing!
I was so busy I didn’t even know there was an IG outage and hadn’t heard anything about it until now. It was so exciting to see Jasmin Paris complete Barkley – what a finish!
runswithpugs says
Thank you so much!
My soul left my body when my accounts disappeared! And I didn’t get back into one of my client accounts until Saturday. that was just awful.
Jasmin Paris is a QUEEN. What a race.
Jenny says
Actually it sounds like a great week (other than the school threat, sigh.) You got a lot done and still got workouts in. That charcuterie board looks amazing!!! i need to take lessons from you.
I hope this week is a little more calm. Our kids don’t have school Monday or Friday, so that helps! Oh, you’re a trooper, going to that car wash (the PARENTS were washing? I might have had to skip that one!!!)
runswithpugs says
I am happy to give lessons. I really love doing boards.
Our school is really weird as far as how money is allocated. There is a school fund for our program, but then the program has a fund, too. If the kids are helping, the money goes to the school fund. It belongs to the program but it has to be requested and there is usually a big lag time in getting it back for necessary thing. If the parents do the event, the money goes directly to the program fund and can be used immediately without going through different channels. It’s a big PITA, but whatever we can do to help our kids get what they need in a timely fashion.
Susanne says
To me it looks like you got a lot of workouts done despite everything going on, especially running! I can imagine running helps relieve some stress too.
It’s a rotten shame that threats and violence in school (other than bullying, which is horrible enough), and that kids have to learn to handle it, is even a thing. I’m so sorry.
That charcuterie board looks amazing!!
runswithpugs says
It’s really so sickening. To be at school with sniffing dogs and police wandering in the halls and in some cases interviewing students, and to pretend like everything is normal and business as usual? How on earth can we expect that?
thank you. The client loved it!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
How awful about the school situation. So sad we have to worry about issues like this and how safe our kids are at school.
Having the parents wash cars sounds like a pretty fun(ny) time. Good for you getting involved in everything this week. Hopefully you’ll have some “me” time this upcoming week!
runswithpugs says
It was really concerning and sad. I’m glad I kept him home.
I did not love washing cars but we do these things for our kids and their programs, right?
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Wow. That is upsetting. What a world we live in. .
But with everything you do you
Manage to stay active. We can’t do it all.
I. Barely did anything this week. Work. Weather and other obligations. This week looks worse. Ugh.
Kimberly Hatting says
I had no idea there was an IG outage, LOL. Obviously, my attention has been elsewhere. I can totally relate to the craziness of being busy and over-scheduled. Sorry for all the turmoil with the school situation and violence and threats. Not fun, and oh so scary!
