And just like that, we are done with 10th grade and on to summer. We had some bumpy last few days, which was unfortunate, but all’s well that ends well and we are able to go on to enjoy the summer.
Sunday
- Cardio: 3 miles, walking
Meghan and I continued our visit tradition: we got up and went for a walk, then followed it with donuts and iced coffee. Absolute perfection.
We made some plans for the next few months and then I made my way home. It was a long day and I had a busy week ahead!
Monday
- Cardio: 5.44 miles, running
I woke up, ready to run and get through my day, but Mother Nature had other plans for me. The weather forecast showed “light rain” but it lied. I got absolutely DRENCHED to the point that I had to actually come home and changed clothes. Yuck.
I didn’t make it to the gym as I had some dog walking to do for a client, and then I had to be at our high school’s graduation at 3PM to help volunteer. Parking is a huge issue, so they asked all volunteers to get there absurdly early. I didn’t get home until super late, and was just exhausted.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.09 miles, running
Of course, I had to get up early again to meet up with J for our miles. At least the weather was better.
It was finally time for some self care with a nail appointment. I didn’t get a photo of them this time, but they are super cute and summery.
In the evening, A took me to dinner for my birthday at the Melting Pot. It was super fun and delicious. I appreciated the time with him.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3.68 miles, walking
I had to beep super early as we had plans for the day. A was done with all his exams, so we were making an escape.
We packed a cooler and beach towels and headed to the beach!
It was the most chill and relaxed day we’ve had in a while, and I was so grateful for it.
Thursday
- Cardio: 7 miles, running
Happy Thursday! Once again, I only had enough time for cardio this morning and had a really decent run.
I treated myself to a yummy breakfast out and then got my hair done!
Friday
- Cardio: 5.3 miles, walking + running
TGIF. I was happy to get here. I met J for a run.
And said goodbye to sophomore year. A scored another year of A/B honor roll, took home another chevron for his letter, and even scored a parking spot for junior year! Next stop: driver’s license!
After all that, we finally went to Stitch and Bitch! It was small (five women) and hot (outside), but it was also amazing. I hope to do it again!
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.28 miles, walking
Happy Saturday! I slept in finally! It’s the first weekend I’ve had nothing really planned! Loved that for me!
A’s girlfriend came over, and we did a lot of cooking and prep for the week. I’m also working on (and almost finished with) a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. I need something bigger.
Thoughts + Goals
As you can see, the gym didn’t happen this week. I had neither the time nor the inclination to go. I’m a little annoyed with myself, but it’s ok. I’ll be back on Tuesday (since Monday is a holiday). And that’s quite alright. In fact, I’m sure the break did me good.
Other than that, it’s summer. We have some college tours, some camp, and some travel planned, and I can’t wait! This weekend is pretty low-key, with a 5K on Monday, but it’s nice to not have any major commitments.
How was your week in training? Are you racing for Memorial Day Weekend? Any plans for the holiday?

Happy belated birthday! A trip to the beach sounds just perfect.
Congrats to your son! What will he be doing this summer?
runswithpugs says
Well, he just got a job, so he will be splitting his time between that, his girlfriend, a week at overnight band camp, a vacation with us, and then marching band camp locally. It will be a lot!
Coco says
Congratulations to A for another solid year! I love seeing how much he “grew” but I’m sure you see so many more changes in his maturity — and getting a driver’s license!
That birthday dinner with A sounds so sweet!
Have a great week!
runswithpugs says
Oh, he’s a whole man lol! It’s incredible.
We had such a good time at dinner. He’s so fun to hang out with, and I’m glad he tolerates us!
Kimberly Hatting says
The busyness is a reality, isn’t it! Congrats to your son on a great year, sounds like he has a lot to look forward to. No Memorial Day racing here, but I’m hoping to get out for a long bike ride and maybe get some flowers added to my backyard.
runswithpugs says
I’m so tired!
Once the race is done, we are coming home and laying low. I wanted to go to the beach for a dinner picnic but it’s going to be 105. No, thanks.

A has grown so much during this year! Silly comment maybe, but I guess i haven’t realised he’s still in the age where he’s getting taller, since I’m a bit confused about the American school system and what 10th grade really means (although I know he turned 16 a while ago).
You’ve done some good running this week! And how lovely of A to take you out for dinner! It looks like a good week despite it being bumpy.
runswithpugs says
He only did grow another few inches: the angle of the photo is different enough to create an optical illusion that he shot up.
He is a “rising junior”, which means he is going into his third year of four years of high school. He’s on the younger side in his class with a late April birthday. Usually seniors are 17-18 (sometimes even 19), juniors are 16-17, sophomores 15-16, and freshman 14-15. I still struggle with the ages sometimes… It seems like they grow so much so quickly!
Deborah Brooks says
It is amazing how fast they grow at this age! hope he has a fun summer planned. Way to get in a ton of exercise during a busy week
runswithpugs says
I told him to make a bucket list with his girlfriend for the summer. So far, they’ve done the beach, went to the movies, and are working on a diamond painting together.

So what is Stitch and Bitch? I’m intrigued! Looks like a great week – especially your birthday dinner with A. Precious moments for sure. Kinda weird A will be driving to school next year, no? I was bummed when the kids didn’t need us to drive them around anymore. Great job getting all of those workouts in even with your busy schedule!
runswithpugs says
So Stitch and Bitch is this bimonthly community event, hosted by the feminist book store in my area. Basically, you show up with your stitching project (crochet/knitting/embroidery/whatever), and you just… stitch… and vent or chat. It was such a cool way to meet people with no pressure and no expectations. It’s not awkward because you’re working on something, but you also get to connect.
It’s going to be SO weird. I’m from NJ originally, and we couldn’t get our permits and licenses until 16 and 17 respectively, instead of 15 and 16 like here. It is just mind boggling to me.

Happy belated birthday. The Melting Pot is fun… I haven’t been in ages.
It sounds like you got some good workouts in, even if you didn’t make it to the gym for more strength. At least the weather seemed to cooperate nicely (except for when you got drenched LOL)
runswithpugs says
And now we are in a humidity/heat wave! The air was drinkable this morning! Yuck!
The melting pot IS fun. We had a blast!
Darlene Cardillo says
Love that tradition. Perfect.
Meeting Pot closed here. Used to be my favorite birthday place.
You got in lots of miles. You can’t do it all and have a life. lol.
Good luck today.
No racing. I skipped yesterday’s race. Went to the lake instead.
runswithpugs says
Melting Pot is fun for sure. It’s not quite as good as it used to be, but that cheese and those mushrooms with the green goddess. Yes, please.
I hope you had fun at the lake!
Marcia says
I’m so glad your birthday week was a fun one! A is growing up so fast! So many milestones come in those high school years. We are in full-on grad party mode here this weekend so I am scrambling!
runswithpugs says
It was fun for sure.
I hope all the grad festivities are amazing! So excited for you and your daughter’s next adventures! She’s going to be even more amazing!
Melissa says
Happy birthday week! It looks like it was a fun one. WHAT is that maracuya drink?? It looks amazing. As does your hair – love the way it got done!! We had a busy week too – my daughter’s birthday, 2 birthday partiies, a first communion, a graduation, baseball game and more – I’m glad it’s almost summertime!
runswithpugs says
It’s a dark chocolate pistachio latte, iced. Absolutely the most delicious thing ever.
Thank you. I just let my stylist do her thing. No green/blue and it has to be able to go up in a ponytail or bun. Anything else is up to her.
That’s a lot of parties! I love hosting, but right now I am in the middle of a recharge period.
Debbie says
How nice for school to be out after an amazing sophomore year for A. I hope you all enjoy your summer as he gets ready for his big junior year. When does he get his license? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “He was in kindergarten when we first met online.” How has time gone by so fast?
runswithpugs says
LOL! I know! He was just a baby. He will get his license in a few weeks. He is taking a safe teen drivers class put on by our county sheriffs office, which will teach him some defensive and offensive techniques (super cool and free to those who sign up for it), and then he will go take his test. It’s bittersweet: I’m excited that he will have the added independence but also… he’s my babbbbbyyyY!
