The Ultimate Summer Cooldown Routine

The Heat Wave Continues

July 5, 2026      14 Comments

I don’t know what to say. It’s so hot. And we don’t even have it the worst! But I also can’t imagine it being worse than this. Every day is just stifling and oppressive. Motivation is in the sewer. Positivity is lost. I really just don’t want to get out of bed and do anything until winter.

Sunday

  • Cardio: 3.67 miles, walking

It was my last day at my client’s house, so I enjoyed the different views one last time before snuggling with the furbabies. I even treated myself to an iced coffee from a local truck, and it was absolutely perfect.

As always, it was good to get home and comfy on the couch with my own furbabies.

Monday

  • Cardio: 5.93 miles, running

It felt just slightly better today, so I was thrilled with that. I was also thrilled to wake up in my own bed.

I didn’t get photos, but we took Mr PugRunner out to celebrate a belated Father’s Day. We were engaged with wedding festivities on the actual day, so we had to make it up to him.

Tuesday

  • Cardio: 4.9 miles, running

Happy last day of the Streaking With The Cool Kids 2026 event! I wasn’t super engaged with the group this year, but I did manage to complete the challenge! Yay me!

J and I went to a craft night for some counted cross stitch, and then met up for dinner with the husbands later. It was lots of fun. I’m almost done with my project, and will share when it’s finished.

Wednesday

  • Cardio: 6.04 miles, walking

Happy July! I wish I was more excited about this month, but it all just feels kind of weird and uncertain. The vibes are off. But the miles are not, so let’s go with that.

I was super grateful to catch the sunrise. It makes all the difference in the world.

Thursday

  • Cardio: 6.55 miles, running

And the week marches on. It was a foggy morning, which was unusual, but I loved it.

Friday

  • Cardio: 5.40 miles, running + walking

It was a miserable morning! I was so excited to get in my miles in a stunning neighborhood and I got poured on! Yuck! It was not at all how I expected the day to start and I wasn’t happy about it at all. Even worse, I had to go to my clients while soaking wet! Note to self: make sure I always have a towel in the car.

Saturday

  • Cardio: 4.02 miles, walking

Let’s try this again, but less wet.

Mr PugRunner wanted to have a little block party for the 4th, so we did that. I had some clients for the holiday, so I popped in and out and made appearances.

Thoughts + Goals

I’m having a little bit of overwhelm these days. A lot is going on and it’s all moving so very fast. I’m not complaining, exactly, but there’s just so much I want to do and my brain is pretty scattered. My thought is that it’s a defense mechanism for the big changes coming up in August. I need to lock in just a wee bit.

I’m sorry you’re feeling so uncertain about everything and uneasy! Hopefully things slow down soon. I keep a towel in my car, and I’ve only maybe used it three times in 3 years, but every time I do, I’m very happy I have it! Nice job staying active even with all you have going on and the heat. 4th of July block party sounds fun!

I very rarely drive anywhere to run so it definitely was unexpected to be in need of a towel.
It was fun but a lot of work.

It is definitely a struggle to keep moving and motivated when it’s this hot. I am not a fan either. Congrats on finishing your steak! Hope you have a great week

I had to rhow the sheets in the wash to avoid going back to bed. Sigh. I’m so tired.

You have a lot of changes on the horizon. Maybe try to take one day at a day and focus on the present — which is easier said than done, I know.

    Good job on your streak!

Good luck staying cool this week.

I can’t even imagine having the heat we had on a regular basis like you do in Florida. I’m just not built for that! I avoided the heat and stayed on my treadmill or in the pool.
I love cross stitch! How fun.

I’m not built for it either. It’s even too hot at the pool. I just want to lay on the tile.

Well, at least we only have to deal with the heat for… FOUR MORE MONTHS (insert a dozen angry emojis). I ran on the treadmill twice this week- to be honest it was because I didn’t feel like getting up super early 9the only possible time to attempt running outside). We will survive, as we do every summer.
Yes, you’ve got some big changes coming up and I’m sure that’s making you feel unsettled. Try to look at it as a special time, you’ll never go through this experience again, and really lean into it. And, lots of iced coffee for the win!!!

Your miserable time is my happy time and vise versa. I don’t want the summer to end because come October my fingers will turn into icicles until the end of March. Back when I could run I kept an old lightweight robe in the car to wrap around myself for the drive home. It worked great!

I love how you take those crafting classes and I’m looking forward to seeing your finished product from your most recent class!

We had some fog up at the lake yesterday–it was THAT humid. Our weather this past week was very Florida-like, and 0 stars, would not recommend. Nice work getting it all done and completing your streak challenge!

I, too, am looking forward to fall!

Congrats on the steak! As you know, it was a humid and muggy “mess” in Iowa this week as well. I’ve learned to always have an extra towel in the car as well…I use it pretty much EVERY Wednesday morning in the summer (following my 4:45 AM runs).

Way to go taking advantage of that better day and run those 6 miles! And how beautiful to be out at sunrise. The light in the picture with the fog is AMAZING. Looks like you found a nice shady spot there near your client! It’s been crazy humid here too so even if the temperatures were very moderate during the week, it seemed quite warm. Now we have the perfect summer weather. Every morning is foggy here now and it’s so beautiful!

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!

Where did you run or race this weekend?

So good to stretch the legs today. I was super sore after a @runsmartofficial cross training session last night, and needed to just get out there and let the fresh air work its magic.

What are you up to today? I really need to take a moment with my calendar and get some plans locked into place.

I got to sleep in AND take advantage of some cooler temps. It really didn’t warm up until my last mile and that was just fine.

I feel like this month and next are really just flying by. So much is going on, and I want so badly to enjoy it all, including the crisp, sunny days where we find them!

Happy Monday! I don’t know about you all, but you Happy Monday!

I don’t know about you all, but your girl is TIRED. It is so hard to roll out of bed some mornings. Ugh.

I managed (finally) and banked six miles in some gross humidity. And now it’s time for some self care and then back to work.

Also. We have somehow acquired a pecan tree? Any tips on the growth and care of this would be greatly appreciated!

Sunday fun day! Just a short walk to start the da Sunday fun day!

Just a short walk to start the day and work out some stiffness. Some days, my ankle just doesn’t want to cooperate 🫤

I have been making graphics and content all day for a client, and now I’m about to do hair and makeup for a little event. Wheee!

This week is going to be BUSY! There’s a lot of changes to the regular routines (nails, a digital learning day, after school and weekend programming) and I have a race on Saturday and bocce ball on Sunday!

Who else is ready to dive in?!
