Running through a schedule shift is proving to be quite the challenge. As I mentioned, I embraced a new business endeavor and my calendar is full of house sitting, walks, and cuddle time. And while this is great news for me, it also changes a very familiar, very consistent system that I’ve been using for years. Is this stopping me? Absolutely not! We are just shifting gears a little! Here’s how!

Keep Your Gym Bag Close
The opportunity to run may crop up at any time, so keep your gear handy! After all, failure to plan is planning to fail, so be ahead of the game. As long as you have your running shoes and a great fit, you’re good to go.

Be Flexible
Although it’s not ideal, things can’t be “perfect” all the time. When you’re experiencing a big schedule shift, the art of being flexible comes in super handy. Sure, your run may not be at the time you prefer, but that doesn’t ruin your whole day. Go when you can and log what you can.

Adjust Your Expectations
A new schedule might mean you don’t have time for your long run on Monday, or that you won’t be able to attend that strength class after lunch. These aren’t game changers, just hiccups on the path. Go ahead and make the pivots you need to achieve all your goals.

Use Your Situation To Your Advantage
In my case, I’m very fortunate that I can lace up and add dog walking miles to my log. They aren’t always the fastest, but I’m getting out and moving my body. However, you can still be active in other situations. When I worked in an office, I was sure to park far aways and always take the stairs to my floor. I would also go for walks on my lunch for movement, fresh air, and a much-needed brain break. You might have to be a little creative but you can make it work.

Give Yourself Grace
Whenever things change on me, I need to remember that I need time to settle in to a new normal. It’s not a bad thing, but I do something forget to give myself grace. No one can be expected to seamlessly flow from one thing to the next at all times, so don’t be too hard on yourself as you figure it all out.

Having your gear ready to go and being flexible are both good strategies to keep you moving
This is the only way I manage to get it done.
Honestly, I hate schedule changes! Fortunately, they don’t happen too often. I love your new business venture though. My hubby does some dog sitting and walking and he loves it.
Me, too! The dog walking is kind of the best part!
Schedule changes can be so hard! I remember when I moved to my house and suddenly had a longer commute and no gym I felt so lost. But we learn to adjust and make it work!
OMG so hard. That anger commute probably threw you for one heck of a loop!
