Making It Through The Holiday Weekend

July 5, 2025      10 Comments

Happy Saturday. It’s a long weekend, but we had a very lowkey few days. All of us had work at some point, and we are prepping for other things. Plus, the pugs loathe fireworks, and I don’t like to leave them alone if they’re scared. I didn’t mind.

Sunday

  • Cardio: 5.34 miles, walking

I started the morning with a little walk in another part of town. I was spending a few days petsitting in an area without sidewalks so I just headed out to a different location. It’s always good to get out and about. And it wasn’t any cooler, but I do love those blue skies.

I popped in on the pugs a few times before the afternoon storms kicked in, but otherwise, I spent the day catching up on writing and The Handmaid’s Tale. I can only take it a little bit at a time.

Monday

  • Cardio: 6.19 miles, running

On Monday, I switched it up to another new location. I was treated to these adorable ducklings, too!

After I wrapped up, it was time to pack my bags and work my way home again! I had some errands to run with A and then I got to settle in again. Moving home day is always spent doing laundry, unpacking, and organizing my overnight bags, which isn’t fun, but it makes the next time easier.

Mr PugRunner even made dinner, which was great.

Tuesday

  • Cardio: 6.41 miles, running, 16 minutes, stair stepper
  • Strength: 30 minutes, upper body (bicep curls, chest press, shoulder press, planks on bench, lateral raises)

Happy July! I keep getting out early enough that the heat isn’t too, too much. Don’t get me wrong: it’s hot and humid as can be, but it’s workable. When I finished, I went to walk a client and reported to the gym before I could chicken out.

Wednesday

  • Cardio: 5.45 miles, walking

We made it to the middle of the week. Wednesday is always my day for a little bit of down time and recovery and I leaned right into that.

Thursday

  • Cardio: 6.06 miles, running + 17 minutes, stair stepper
  • Strength: 30 minutes, lower body (glute bridges, step ups, leg press, hamstring press, calf raises, dead bugs)

It was a good morning for a run, and i was happy to be done with it.

I met J for coffee – we have both been on hectic schedules, so it was nice to see her! We can resume our walks together in just over a week! Then I headed to the gym for some lower body workout time. I only made it twice this week, but that’s ok. I’m off to a solid start, and I’m incorporating some things that are way outside my comfort zone (like the step ups).

Friday

  • Cardio: 5.46 miles, running + walking

The timing of this week just seemed odd. Yes, it was Friday, the 4th of July, but it also felt like a Saturday. Meh. I started the day with a pretty solid run. My right foot was a little sore – the steps ups at the gym are challenging from a landing standpoint – so I went easy.

Somehow, my hair stylist had an appointment open, so I was finally able to get my hair colored and cut. It’s been ages. I’ll get a good picture for next week, but it was really a boost I needed.

We had the kids here for dinner, so I made a big Caesar salad with fries and espresso martinis (those were for the adults), watched The Way, Way Back and Independence Day, and kept the pugs distracted from the neighborhood fireworks.

Saturday

  • Cardio: 5.49 miles, walking

I didn’t get a great night’s sleep and I was a little concerned when I saw how high the temperature was. Yuck. It was a pleasant surprise to feel the crazy breezes, so I made the most of it.

We had a pancake breakfast, and really started to get ready for the week. There’s lots going on and I can’t wait to get moving!

Thoughts + Goals

Anyone else just have a weird week? I don’t know. The weather was off. The vibes were off. I am happy it’s over. Even Friday had strange energy: usually our neighborhood shows up and out for fireworks, but it was such an erratic showing that was over early and didn’t leave much of a mess (grateful for that part). I don’t know. It’s over, so we move on.

That being said, we are about one month away from the start of school! What? How can that be? I’m not ready.

So another week is completed, and we keep on keeping on.

Oh, don’t say it!!! School starts way too early. Marching band camp starts in two weeks.
Yes, my week felt unusual. My husband was out of town, and then having a holiday on Friday threw things off. But, it was all good- I can’t complain.
Can’t wait to see your hair.

It was the same here – Friday seemed like Saturday because my son was home from work! I know it was a nice break for him. He’s got a Mon-Fri office job for the summer and he’s feeling the grind (but also enjoying the big paychecks!).
Although I don’t like spending the time at the salon, I do love the results! Such a great mood boost.
Good job on getting back to the gym! It’s on my agenda for today 🙂

Ahh don’t say the S word. I’m not ready for school to start. Summer is my favorite in so many ways, especially sleeping in. Nice job this week, even with being so busy and feeling off. Those ducklings are so cute!

The Independence Day weekend had my brain in a state of confusion! Finally, today actually feels like a Sunday. Friday, though, felt like a Saturday, leaving me all confused yesterday.

I hear you about the landing with step-ups! I could get quite sore from that after my recent foot injury before I was used to walking and more impact again.
Isn’t it crazy how fast summer passes?! It seem to fly by a lot faster now as an adult!
I had a quite meh week in training, but with some highlights. I’ve been so distracted lately and have to get back in the groove when I’m in the gym.

It was a beautiful morning that turned quickly into a beautiful day. Sundays are hard because they are immediately followed by Mondays, and Mondays are hard.

Lots to catch up on this week! April is chock full of holidays, birthdays, days off, and events, so let’s get to it!

About this morning… I was up and out early to d About this morning…

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!

Where did you run or race this weekend?

So good to stretch the legs today. I was super sore after a @runsmartofficial cross training session last night, and needed to just get out there and let the fresh air work its magic.

What are you up to today? I really need to take a moment with my calendar and get some plans locked into place.

I got to sleep in AND take advantage of some cooler temps. It really didn’t warm up until my last mile and that was just fine.

I feel like this month and next are really just flying by. So much is going on, and I want so badly to enjoy it all, including the crisp, sunny days where we find them!

Happy Monday! I don’t know about you all, but y Happy Monday!

I don’t know about you all, but your girl is TIRED. It is so hard to roll out of bed some mornings. Ugh.

I managed (finally) and banked six miles in some gross humidity. And now it’s time for some self care and then back to work.

Also. We have somehow acquired a pecan tree? Any tips on the growth and care of this would be greatly appreciated!

Sunday fun day! Just a short walk to start the da Sunday fun day!

Just a short walk to start the day and work out some stiffness. Some days, my ankle just doesn’t want to cooperate 🫤

I have been making graphics and content all day for a client, and now I’m about to do hair and makeup for a little event. Wheee!

This week is going to be BUSY! There’s a lot of changes to the regular routines (nails, a digital learning day, after school and weekend programming) and I have a race on Saturday and bocce ball on Sunday!

Who else is ready to dive in?!
