I am absolutely over the storms and the rain – For us, the April showers bring soggy running, and that’s no fun. This is a bumpy entrance to our upcoming hurricane season, and I’m not excited about that. June 1 is closer than we realize!
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.79 miles, walking
Happy Easter! I did get up early to scoot out for a quick walk.
And then I had to dive straight into cooking for Easter brunch! My parents were awesome and brought macaroni salad, pickled beets, and spinach bites, while we served veggies and cheese, deviled eggs, ham and turkey and cheese sliders, and carrot cake trifle, with bunny ear coconut margaritas.
We had plans to go to the beach, but…. meh. It was a long day and the couch sounded great, too.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.01 miles, running + 2.01 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
As I’ve mentioned, I feel super motivated on Mondays, so this was a good run.
Storm chatter began, and humidity crept in. Yuck. My gym session was excellent though and I was grateful for that.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.96 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Busy, busy, busy day. Couch to 5K is going well, and J and I had a good run.
I scampered off to a client meeting, went to the gym, and then detoured to the beach to get some product photos. It was super windy, but the temperature was dropping fast. I wanted to get everything done before the rain. Again.
In the evening, we divided and conquered: A had a wind ensemble dress rehearsal, so Mr PugRunner attended that with friends, while I had to lead a committee meeting. He got the better end of the deal. From the videos I got, the show was incredible.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.04 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
I planned to run but I was super sore, so I walked instead.
We had planned to drive to Fernandina for a Yelp event, but suddenly, we were under tornado watches and all the rest. AND I got a last minute order for TWO huge charcuterie boxes, so we decided to postpone our lunch date and shop for supplies instead.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.12 miles, running + 2 miles, walking
Once again, it was a busy day. I started with a nice run.
And then I made the trip to OVME for a hydrafacial. I have never done this before, and was terrified, but it was an absolutely incredible experience. My aesthetician, Katie, was so kind and cool, and my face felt great afterwards! Look at all the gunk they pulled out of my pores!
Last but not least? Book club. The book was Verity, by Colleen Hoover. Most of us hated it, but for very different reasons. It always amuses me to see the things in books that bother some people and not others. I won’t be making next months’ because it falls on my birthday, but the pick is The Women, by Kristen Hannah.
Friday
- Cardio: 4.38 miles, running
Friends, I had to go out in the dark!
I had TWO boxes for 8-10 guests each to complete and deliver by 8:30 AM. It was tight, but I got it done! And then I treated myself to an iced blueberry latte and layered donut.
I may have another order next week, so I went ahead and ordered my bulk supplies to help cut costs and save me shopping trips! I’m so excited. While I was out, I also stopped by Cracker Barrel for some moon pies for Monday’s eclipse. The kids have an excused absence from school, so I thought I would do a cute themed thing.
Pro tip: if you need moon pies or eclipse glasses, Cracker Barrel has them!
In the evening, I volunteered at our Spring Showcase. The jazz band performed, in addition to the dance classes, chorus, color guard, and thespians. There were also some raffle baskets and A won a basket of restaurant gift cards! Amazing!
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.87 miles, walking
Happy Saturday! I got up and got out in the dark, yet again.
Mr PugRunner and I headed out to Fernandina Beach for a Yelp Elite Week event at Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls. We each got a classic lobster roll and then we ordered tots, a lobster bisque and whoopee pie to try as well. Everything was delicious and it was a beautiful day to walk around. We also checked out the state’s oldest saloon, which was nice.
Thoughts + Goals
My weeks just keep getting busier and busier. It’s all good things but sometimes it’s hard to keep my chin up when I just want to sleep. What can you do?
Monday’s eclipse will be interesting. I am still debating if A will go to school. We will have 70% totality, but it will be right as the kids are dismissing, so I’m not sure if I want to deal with the traffic. Meh.
Training continues. I have a 5K coming up on Saturday and a 10K two weeks later. I’m ready, but I’d like to feel a little faster and stronger so I’ll continue with what I’m doing. My gym days got cut short this week, but I’ll make it up.
How was your week in training? Are you doing anything for the eclipse? Anything fun and exciting coming up?

I’ve been scouring the internet for cute ideas. I found a fun mocktail and I think I am going to do empanadas in whole circles and then half circles.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
I liked Verity. Our current book club book is meh.
Another active and busy week. Yum lobster and whoopie pies. Lucky you.
I’m ignoring the eclipse since I’ll be working online all day.
runswithpugs says
Oooh. What are you reading?
The lobster was sooooo good.
Coco says
Your boards are so pretty! That’s a lot of work to be done by 8:30 am!
I never would have thought to look for those things at Cracker Barrel.
I’m not sure how noticeable the eclipse will be there. I think we’re in the 89% and I’m not expecting much. Maybe it will surprise me!
Jenny says
I’m not planning anything for the eclipse, but we’re not getting as much of it as you are. My son is going to an eclipse themed concert this afternoon and an eclipse party tonight (not sure what that involves, but I’ll be interested to find out.) Then, they don’t have school tomorrow. But I think the buildup may be more fun than the actual event, because right now he said the forecast is showing for it to be cloudy. I would probably be more into it if we were in the path of totality, or at least a little closer, like you are.
We have actually had BEAUTIFUL weather this week! Of course it will all come crashing down soon, with sweltering temps and hurricanes. But I’m enjoying it for now.
You had a BUSY week! Nice job getting those workouts in.

University of North Florida was doing a free event with glasses, food trucks, and all kinds of other things. It sounded fun but I didn’t want to be out. We had a good time at home.
Deborah Brooks says
Your boxes look really fantastic! You did a fab job on them. Have so much fun with the eclipse mania. I plan to try and catch it as well.we have about 90%
runswithpugs says
Thank you! It was all so cool to see.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m excited to see the eclipse (it was so neat back in 2017). I think we’re in the 90% coverage vicinity this time. Nice work on those early (dark) mornings!
runswithpugs says
That will be so cool! In 2045, Florida will get the totality!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I had a dream that the traffic in my town was horrible and I got stuck at work for the eclipse! Hopefully that was not a true vision because that will be stressful.
runswithpugs says
Oh gosh! I hope it all worked out!
Debbie says
Moon Pies for the kids for the eclipse – genius!
Wow, two runs before the sun came up. Did you enjoy it? I actually love getting out early and brining up the sun.
runswithpugs says
Yes and no. I do like being done before the day really starts, but we have had some “incidents” in our area lately, so I am super nervous about going out alone in the dark. I’m sure it’s fine, but… caution never hurts.
