This week, I finished another trip around the sun. This will be my 47th, and it ended up being a pretty great one. I’m starting to get my groove back with holidays and special events: the last four years have been a little tough with these things (as they have been for so many), but it’s nice to have better vibes about everything. So let’s see how the week went.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.68 miles, walking
Happy Sunday! After our Derby party, I was just worn out. So I slept in and got my walk done.
We were pretty done with parties, but it was Cinco De Mayo. Mr PugRunner made quesadillas, while A made guacamole, and I enjoyed both with a margarita.
Monday
- Cardio: 5 miles, running + 1.73 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
It’s Monday. Another week begins. I hit the road for a pretty decent run. It’s important to note that things are getting hot and humid again. It’s definitely dragging down my speed.
This was probably my most quiet day of the week, so I used that to my advantage and really tried to plow through a lot of work. I also did some awesome dog sitting, which is my favorite.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.13 miles, running
Tuesday got all kinds of turned around. I was supposed to take A to the dentist in the morning, so I woke up super early to fit in my miles. Well, Mr PugRunner ended up taking him instead. With the flow I shall go.
I got cleaned up, checked in on my doggo client, and then went to The Feed Mill with J. I absolutely love their morning breakfasts, and I wanted to share it with a friend. We got iced coffees and split a breakfast pizza, with sausage, peppers, onions, and blueberries.
I spent the evening leading a meeting. This was a big week for nighttime activities, and next week will be more of the same. boo.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3.27 miles running/hiking
I decided that I was going to treat myself with a trip to the beach. However, it was a farther beach because I wanted breakfast at this really cool food truck I’d seen on social media. Once again, I got up at the crack of dawn and made it to Marineland just in time to see the sun rise.
I had grand plans to run on the beach, but that didn’t go well. I got just under a mile done, but by that point, the tide was already up to the rock formations and I had to start hiking. At one point, I even had to take off my socks and shoes because the route went through all the soft sand. I didn’t get the miles I wanted, but I did get the exertion. it’s all about balance.
I was more than happy to get back to the parking lot and breakfast! My homemade raspberry pop tart and iced coffee was exactly what I needed.
I didn’t make it to the Stitch and Bitch, but I did get to my evening meeting, which was followed with a few glasses at at the local wine bar. We had to celebrate a great year of arts boosters. And I am back on the board for next year.
Thursday
- Cardio: 4.84 miles running + 1.59 miles, walking
Happy birthday to me! (And Darlene!) Of course, I celebrated 47 with a run.
Mr PugRunner told me to be dressed and ready by 10AM, so I passed on the gym and did exactly that.
He took me for a birthday doughnut, followed by the Cummer Museum and a place to make our own candles. The main exhibit at the museum was Women In Sport, and features fashion from hundreds of years of fitness. I took tons of photos but this woman was walking a pug, so… Then we had lunch at a place I absolutely love and came home in time to take a little nap. I am a big believer in birthday naps.
From there, it was out to dinner and ice cream sundaes for dessert. Yay!
Friday
- Cardio: 5.11 miles, walking and running
So the plan was to do our morning run and go pick some blueberries. We checked off item one, and hopped in the car.
As we drove, we got hit with some severe thunderstorm warnings, and by the time we arrived at the farm, the weather was an absolute mess. I did have muck boots with me, but no ponchos or umbrellas, so we are going to try again on Wednesday.
The rest of the day was kind of chill, which was nice. I desperately needed a day of downtime.
Saturday
- Cardio: 5.11 miles, walking
I got up super early to try to see the Northern lights. No luck š So I just got my walk done.
Can we take a moment for my new birthday shoes? I went for something a little lighter this time. Will I regret it? Only time will tell!
I ran some errands and tidied the house, and from there we had two big events: the St. Augustine Food & Wine Festival and A’s band banquet.
A won an award for Most Outstanding Woodwind in the Wind Ensemble, and his girlfriend took home an award for Most Outstanding Junior Brass. I am so proud of them.
Did I fall into bed that night? Yes.
Thoughts + Goals
It was a good week. I did have some anxiety about some things that are mostly out of my control, but that’s ok. As always, I take lots of deep breaths and just keep powering through.
Thank you so much to everyone who sent birthday wishes – I am so grateful for everyone in my life. <3

Happy Birthday! I love birthdays, and am also a big fan of the birthday nap. You really know how to pack a lot into one week! The photo of the beach sunrise is beautiful. And, congrats to A and his girlfriend! We also had the band banquet this week and Angie won “Outstanding Freshman.” It was good for her- she needed the encouragement.
And yes- it’s gotten WAY hot and humid here. The forecast for next week shows 97, noooooooooo!
runswithpugs says
Congratulations to Angie! That’s huge!
It’s a little cooler this week, but also rain! Stop it, weird weather!

Happy Birthday!

I need to do the beach once a week for sure. At least. Especially now that summer is here.

What a great birthday…DAY and WEEK! I didn’t have any luck seeing the Northern Lights at my place, but my relay gals said they saw it as they were loading the van early yesterday morning(before hitting the road and heading my way).
runswithpugs says
I tried three times to see the lights and nothing. Boo.
Debbie says
You certainly had a busy week with lots of fun thrown in for your birthday!
Congrats to A and his girlfriend on their band accomplishments!
runswithpugs says
We did! And we are so proud of them!
Susanne says
That sounds like a lovely week with a lot of fun! Happy birthday, again! The women in sport museum sounds like something I’d enjoy.
The blueberries mixed with onions and cheese sounds so odd to me, how was it?
runswithpugs says
Thank you! It was a beautiful exhibit.
The blueberries with cheese and onions was actually really good. They originally planned to crack an egg on top, but I can’t do a runny yolk, so we passed on that.
Coco says
Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a great week.
Sorry the beach run ended up being more of an adventure than you were looking for but homemade poptarts sound yummy!
I hope you had a good Motherās Day too!
