Oh, what a week. Hopefully, by this time Sunday night, I’ll be curled up on my couch with a yummy dinner and a big glass of wine. It’s been a minute, for sure. My allergies are on fire, my eyes are itchy, and I am so behind on work that I just can’t see how it’s going to work out. Oh, well. Gotta just keep swimming.

Sunday
- Cardio: 4.77 miles, walking
Happy Easter! It was kind of a bizarre day. I started with a super early walk, and then came home to make fluffy pancakes. I’ve been craving them for a while, and it just felt like a great day to have them.

I ended up with one easy dog walk midday, which was fine because we weren’t having my parents over until later. the kids both picked up a morning shift at work as well, and the timing went perfectly. There’s nothing wrong with a chill holiday celebration, and it was kind of nice not having all the stress.

Monday
- Cardio: 6.38 miles, running + .78 miles, walking
Happy Marathon Monday! For course, I put in some miles of my own in solidarity with everyone in Boston.

Sadly, I wasn’t able to watch much because I had a bunch of dog walks to complete. Spoiler alert: the gym would not be happening this week.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.24 miles, running + 87 miles, walking
My runfie was a fail, so I encouraged my shoes to think back on watching the inspiring runners at the marathon. Let’s hope that helps them be faster!

My run was with J, and then I had a couple more walks. Dog walking is really the most fun of all the workouts.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.83 miles, walking
The week was flying by. I had to get through my morning obligations super fast so I could check in with another new client.

For those keeping track, I saw a total of seven dogs and two cats this week, not including my own! On the plus side, my make ahead meals are doing great for the family and helping to make things a little easier when I’m not around.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.39 miles, running + .56 miles, walking
Even though I’m not home, I found a great running route and was happy to have that change of pace. I was also happy to have some new Jogology socks – they come in crew length now!

And then I dug into trying to check all the thing off my to do list, while caring for some sweet critters.
Friday
- Cardio: 4 miles, running + .82 miles, walking
I tried to get out a little earlier (yesterday had been just a wee bit too hot for my liking), and wasn’t super successful but I found a shady route and made it work.

Saturday
- Cardio: 4.57 miles, walking
Tomorrow, I promise myself, I will try to catch the sunrise. Today, I danced on a floating dock in the woods. It’s all about balance, right?

I did get home for a little bit to snuggle with the pugs. I miss their smushed faces.
Thoughts + Goals
That’s a wrap on the week. It was incredibly busy in a lot of ways, but I also didn’t do very much either.
Huge scare this week… Leonidas slipped out of his harness while on a walk. The good news is that the boy wants to be home more than he wants to be anywhere else, so he just turned around and trotted home. I finally caught up to him while he was lifting his leg, and carried him home in disgrace. It was scary but I’m glad he is so singleminded of purpose when he wants to get back to his safe space. My heart stopped, though.
It’s a big week coming up. It’s A’s 17th birthday, as well as his Junior Prom (with his Senior girlfriend). The year is winding down – seniors’ last day is May 9 and then it’s just exams and wrapping up the year. He was selected for a parking spot next year (we don’t have enough spots are our school, so there is a tiered lottery system – he is in extracurricular activities so he is pretty high on the list.
And then it’s summer.
I’m debating running a race the day after my birthday. We will have a busy day with the band banquet and a food and wine festival, but … you only turn 48 once, right? I’ll see how it goes.

Looks like another busy week for you! We’ve had that scare with Cocoa, which is really frightening since she is deaf and can’t hear us calling her. Luckily she never gets too far. We also have an Airtag on her collar, just in case…
The end of the school year is always busy! Will you be doing a lot of college visits this summer?

The AirTag is a great idea. The pugs don’t wear collars because of their tracheas, and it would be great to have it on his harness, but if he slips out of it, that’s no help.
A has already decided where he wants to go. He will either go straight to the school he wants (which we’ve visited), or he might take the feeder option that we have in Florida. There are several two year colleges that feed directly to the state schools with guaranteed acceptance. His Bright Futures scholarship would cover 100% of that vs 75% for the state school, and the tuition is super inexpensive. That school we have to visit, but it’s outside of Orlando so not a big trip. He has a safety that’s in Jacksvonille as well, and he’s been there plenty for camps and seminars, so no need to do the official tour.
Sounds like your pet walking biz is really taking off! You may have to hire assistants! Way to get it all done daily with extra challenges
The thought has crossed my mind… how does one go ahead and do the independent thing and then bring in staff? But it’s still early days. I’m building up a really nice clientele, and I’ve got several repeat clients, which is super important.
Those pancakes look amazing!
Scooby’s never really gotten off his leash and I have no idea what he’d do! In our front yard he runs around the cul-de-sac but comes right back. Back in the day our beagle ran off and just ran and ran, but we found her down by a river bank in our neighborhood.
How many nights are you spending away from home for Rover?
Happy birthday to A!

I love the thick fluffy pancakes, and this recipe worked so well. I have to find it again – I’ll see something, make it, and then forget to save it. Way to go, me.
This is the second time that he has gotten away. Both times he has hightailed it for home. I’m relieved, but I need to work on their recall. I had one pug who got out when she was a puppy (when I lived in south florida. I had just moved in with Mr PugRunner). She was gone four hours. She ran into the woods, through the neighborhood, across a six lane road, into another complex. She drank water from a lake, and kept running. We had a cop, a Red Bull promotional vehicle and a pickup of middle schoolers hunting her down. We finally caught her and I must have aged 10 years that day.
My housesits depend. I have them as short as one night. This one is four nights. I have one in June that’s 12 nights. I have an 8 miles radius from my house, so I’m still close enough to come home. Some are easier than others. There are pets who just need someone there at night, but during the day only need to be checked in on occasionally. There are others where it’s more continuous care or strictly scheduled. I try to get home once a day when I’m working.
What a busy week! But nice that you are so active with the dog walking. Love the photo of you all dressed up for Easter! Happy almost 17th birthday and prom, wow! What a week ahead.
Such a busy week! Then my birthday and Mother’s Day the week after!
You’re getting in lots of walks with your clients. Are most of them pretty good walkers or do they stop and sniff a lot?
Happy early birthday to A, and I hope he and his girlfriend have fun at their prom!
There is a solid mix. Some definitely stop and sniff, or are super tiny and can’t go too far. Others are awesome walkers. I would love some more walking clients, but so many people work from home that they just don’t need the help.
What a busy week. And when you talk about prom and then it’s summer? OMG, it was winter like yesterday!
I think it’s impressive how you get all your running and walking done with such a busy schedule.
Happy soon-to-be birthday for A, and for you too!
Yes! Seniors are finished with school on May 9, and then A will go until the end of May and then summer. It’s inconceivable!
Another busy week for you but you are keeping actives and getting your walks and runs done.
I’m debating too about a race on May 10 too or just running with friends.
It’s hot. I’m tired. I don’t know. We’ll see.
Phew, so glad your dog was happy not to take off on a big escape! My cats are not interested. in escaping to the outdoors thankfully. They do enjoy sniffing the air at the screen door and listening to the birds though!
He is such a silly guy. He is terribly unsocialized and he wants to be outside, but the minute we leave the property, he tucks tail and is terrified. I don’t know what to do about it.
The cluster of busyness is tough! Our springs, for several years, were a busy mess with golf, dance recitals, tennis, end-of-year concerts, and prom (for the kids AND me, since I was on the committee for 11 years). Then we slid right into softball, birthdays, and summer jobs. Somehow, we get it done 😉
The good news is that A and his girlfriend are both super lowkey. In my head, I wanted to do the big after party for them, with snacks and movies, but they just want to go to Waffle House and hang out with each other. Plus, he just tosses on his tux and goes. I will take them for nice photos but that’s it.
ooh, I hope you get to run your birthday race! This time of year really can be crazy. Nice job getting out there every day in spite of everything. And, yes- we’re in the heat of summer now (sigh). And- now I’m craving fluffy pancakes!
Make the fluffy pancakes! They did say that you have to use dairy milk to get the fluffiness, so I’m not sure what you could sub in, but there has to be something.
Dogs are allowed off leash nearly everywhere here, so we’ve really had to work on Ruth’s recall. She still can’t turn down ruining many a picnic in the Heath…rascal Ruth.
I agree, dog walks are the best! I did get inspired by the other bloggers and buy a weighted vest to try to wear that on some dog walks, but its pretty warm as we get into summer! It would be too hot for Florida!!
I would love for a picnic to be ruined by Ruth.
I want a weighted vest as well. But yes, it is getting hot. It’s on my list for when things ease up a little bit. So very soon.
